thanks for letting us all know BV. This place will be shut down within a month.
People still don't seem to realize that you need to invest money in a building to make it legal. They will learn a hard lesson...

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 5:17 PM

5:17 shut your self righteous know it all mouth and learn yourself some RESPECT for people who are actually doing something.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 5:27 PM

The Mighty Handful is the best band that's ever played there.

Posted by JESUS H. CHRIST | January 23, 2009 5:41 PM

5:17, you jerkoff, this site is constantly reporting on diy stuff and the last time anything got "shut down" was a bust at Market Hotel like a year ago. Now they have Market Hotel articles in the NY Times and listings in the Voice.
This place is run by a bunch of kids with a shitload of energy and some booking cred.

Vanishing Point is in Williamsburg. The intersection of Meserole/Bushwick IS Williamsburg.

Posted by John | January 23, 2009 5:55 PM

The Budos Band is playing there Saturday late-night.
It will kick ass.

Posted by awesome band | January 23, 2009 5:59 PM

awesome. sounds great, and with a nice opening schedule. anyone know if this is going to be an all ages venue?

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 6:20 PM

it is all ages

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 6:36 PM

NY Eye & Ear Fest at Vanishing Point was awesome. And yes, it is an all-ages venue.

Also, Future Islands is headlining the Feb. 1st show, whoever wants to edit that.

woah a diy venue that isn't run by todd p. he'll have it shut down in a month, keeping his monopoly grip hold of bk spaces by the balls going strong.

Posted by joey jo-jo junior. | January 23, 2009 6:57 PM

Saturday's show also features a late night DJ set from The Twilite Tone (Common's tour DJ), and deep disco/house and funky sounds from Sharegroove & $mall ¢hange throughout the night..

^^^Uh...no "joey jo-jo" you're wrong. Todd P. has known about this place ever since it opened several months ago and supports it along with all the other venues and people in this town who are actually DOING something rather than bitching and moaning about what Todd P. is doing. Perhaps you didn't notice that a Showpaper benefit is happening Jan. 29th at Vanishing point? Todd is one of the founders of Showpaper.

And before someone says it, I don't work for Todd. But I AM someone who has attended many of the great shows he's promoted over the years and who remains baffled at the amount of spite he gets on this blog from readers who also attend his shows and leave with a smile on their face.

Posted by blackhat | January 23, 2009 7:06 PM

John – The only people that consider Bushwick & Meserole to be in Williamsburg are real estate developers and those taken in by them. Sorry.

Posted by Anonymous | January 23, 2009 8:28 PM

So is it a byob place or is alcohol sold anywhere there?

Posted by mike | January 23, 2009 8:41 PM

"Feb 14 - The Vandelles, Screen Vinyl Image, Audn, Violet Hour"

Yer Saint Valentines Day Ear & Eye Infirmary Massacre, as I will refer to it going forward.

Posted by i want my daddy's records | January 23, 2009 9:47 PM

Meserole st is definately in Willaimsburg.

Flushing is the border.

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 8:20 AM

wow JoeyJoJo, if Todd P is trying to hold onto some monopoly grip on Broolyn shows, he sure has a funny way of doing it, what with the recommending and linking to every other promoter and space's website on his website as alternatives, and by publishing an ad free listings newspaper that lists everybody else's shows as prominently as his own.

someday you'll grow up, JoeyJoJo, and maybe then you'll realise that sinister conspiracies don't necessarily lurk behind every fucking good thing in the world.

this venue is great.. .
everyone always has a blast and the lineups for shows are always on point. can't think of a better venue around.

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 9:02 AM

"We are obsessed with the creativity that is overflowing in this city, the incredible nitelife that has emerged from it, and the musicians, artists, DJs, and promoters that are making it all happen."

translation - We want to cash in and nobody has been coming so we wrote a bullshit press release.

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 11:02 AM

the venue isn't run by todd p, that's right. and, can you think of another DIY venue with fog machines, chillout area, rugs and supercool light effects?

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 11:30 AM

the hacienda has been built

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 11:31 AM

do they let people smoke cigs?

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 11:47 AM

yes, you can smoke inside

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 11:57 AM

Who can we call to report venues that allow smoking?

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 12:34 PM

"We want to cash in and nobody has been coming so we wrote a bullshit press release."

There was no press release and that wording was on their website since day one.

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 12:47 PM

tony wilson lives and he's at VP!

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 1:23 PM

5:17 agreed

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 2:36 PM

2:36, you are an ill informed waste of time

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 3:13 PM

Great space. Very gracious folks when we played there. Why's everyone pissing on this place? I've had nothing but good experiences in my dealings with them. We should be cheering new independent venues trying to host new artists AND make a living.

Posted by snailboy | January 24, 2009 3:36 PM

I wandered into this place on accident back in October thinking that it was Danbro. My friends and I came back to kill our beers when we found out Danbro isn't BYOB. They have a bar, but nobody hassled us for carrying in a backpack full of beer...so maybe they're cool with it?

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 4:33 PM

probably awful cuz they stop everything in their world for primal fucking scream

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 7:29 PM

Cool, so the people who automatically assume the place sucks can stay home or go wherever they go to bitch about how everything other people try to do is lame or cliche or whatever. Then the rest of us can keep hanging out and enjoying the place without a bunch of douchebags around to ruin it. Deal? Cool.

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 9:35 PM

great place !!! u-huuuu !!!

Posted by Anonymous | January 24, 2009 11:25 PM

The Vanishing point is fucking awesome. Tony Wilson really does hideout there. I hope it stays open for a while. I want to book a SICK show there

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2009 3:29 AM

Posted by AcunMedya | January 25, 2009 4:01 AM

really?
the guys that run this place are great and really enthusiastic about helping promote the reason why so many of us live here.
if the best thing we can do is debate neighborhood borders and primal scream and cigarette toleration then the lily suburbs will surely welcome us back to them. but, for now, we live here.
go see a show there if you havent yet.
the booking is proper and the space is great.
best of luck VP!

hey,
i'm pj, vp is my place.

wanna thank bkln vegan for featuring us and for all the great comments, thanks to everyone for coming by, enjoying the space, having a good time, checkin out the music and parties.

i opened vp with my best friend as a way to extend what i already loved, nitelife, especially alternative music, live music, truly indie stuff, and everything that goes with it, and enjoy it with friends and anyone who loves the same thing. with the right people involved, vanishing point became a great way to expand what i've always loved doing, by not just going out to party, but to host lots of great shows, parties, etc etc.
so it was pretty much a natural progression.

fact is, in the last several years there's been an explosion of cool new stuff going on, lots of great people... it's pretty basic, it's demographics, it's a cycle and it's nyc. the last one is the most important!
so the diy scene is really cool,a bunch of venues, and we figured we'd have some fun with it too. and we lucked out with a space that really works.

ok, so a lil change of pace. main point. to 11:02: I FUCKIN WROTE THAT. AND I MEAN IT. i didn't just wanna put down, 'we have shows'. we wanted to step it up a bit. i wanted to say it like it is here, and not in bullshit language. so, again. I WROTE IT AND IT MEANS WHAT IT SAYS. it's not come 'corporate press release' or whatever u took it as. and as far as 'nobody has been coming', are u fucking kidding? fortunately people enjoy coming. lots. and we're thankful, all we want to do is have a great time with friends and anyone who likes what's going on and to party.

as for 'cashing in'. seriuosly, u need some econ 101. this isn't printing money. at all.

being cynical is ok. but not making some dumb ass blanket statement. maybe come have a drink and chill.

anyway, that aside, thx again for everyone who's been coming by.

Posted by pj | January 25, 2009 4:56 AM

DIY is so 2007. get over it.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2009 10:18 AM

thank you pj! love the place had a few great nights here already! here's to good luck and keepin it real!

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2009 12:42 PM

10.18. i think you're getting old. get married, have kids, move to country house and forget about music.

Posted by stephan c | January 25, 2009 1:00 PM

Sounds like a great new venue, I'm definitely gonna check it out.

To 8:28:

The only people who consider Meserole and Bushwick Ave. to be in Bushwick are those who consider Williamsburg too embarassingly "played out" or "over" or whatever term you want to use and so prefer to pretend it's in the "cooler" and "edgier" Bushwick.

The border is Flushing. North of Flushing, W-burg. South of it, Bushwick. It's really very simple.

Sorry.

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2009 1:30 PM

correct re: borders, 1:30 except that it's east/west and not north/south

Posted by Anonymous | January 25, 2009 4:26 PM

10:18...

"DIY is so 2007. get over it."

WOW!! thanks for the newsflash, and for your pithy, insightful and oh so wise statement!! gee, how silly we all are to not have known.
(that's sarcasm, and that never goes out of style)

so, what year is for creativity, art, finding new things to do, something alternative, etc. etc.??

tho, maybe you're right DIY is sooo 2007. and 2008, 2009, 1984, 1977, 1989, 1996, 1980, 2002, 1987..........

Posted by pj | January 25, 2009 5:33 PM

Yes! Psycho Rainbow!

So good!

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2009 2:29 AM

the feeling/vibe here is that this place and the owners are icky for some undefined reason and the positive comments on here on most definitely 98% VP staff. just a vibe.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2009 2:38 AM

Mike 8:41 is a cop!!!

2:38: stop smoking so much pot. vibes, man, vibes, maaaaaaaaaaaan.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2009 2:31 PM

2:38 -- nice cynical assumption jackassy. I went there, played there. Have no stake in VP -- I just like its vibe. Sort of Danbroey. Everyone was nice. Good crowd, good acts. Get over the suspicion.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2009 2:41 PM

I love the Vanishing Point. Great place to see a show or just chill. Nice job guys.

Posted by Anonymous | January 26, 2009 11:44 PM

ohhhh boy, here we go again. now i remember why i don't reply to endless comments. it's so hard to try to keep the record straight with shit postings.

the vibe is icky?? where the fuck did u get that? the comments i've read are by far pretty basic, cool people saying they like going and playing.

ENOUGH WITH THE MINDLESS QUESTIONING OF PRETTY SIMPLE STUFF

it's funny, pretty much every one that's come there, enjoyed it, played there, etc. really loves it. and again, i'm happy that they do, because we all love making it happen to, and bringing people there.

"98% of comments are staff"????? seriously, are there people like u out there, 2:38? where do u get shit like that to just throw out there. no, they aren't staff, because we've talked about this article and said what a few have posted, mostly my stuff

it's just a fucking chill place to hang and enjoy. DEAL WITH IT, or go knit a sweater somewhere and stop making shit statements.

really is sad because i'm super chill as is vp and everyone there. FUCKING TRY COMING OUT SOMETIME. also, everyone who plays seems to think i'm a super nice guy the way i do sound and try to accommodate whatever the needs of the bands are.
so it's sad that really pathetic people who make mindless and baseless statements, that really mean absolutely nothing in the end, find the need to keep babbling like some morons with too much time on their hands, the only result is that it insults good people.

(still amazed how u found the "vibe icky" based on simple honest statements by real people) so pathetic

everyone else, come check it if u haven't, and all the others too: death by audio, danbro, silent barn, market hotel, and a bunch of others. just try having some fun.

Posted by pj | January 27, 2009 5:11 AM

see? icky
