What happened to Luna Lounge? (welcome Satellite Lounge)
Luna Lounge, Brooklyn, 12 March 2007 (sweetsycophant)

Hey friends of Luna,Many people have written me asking about Luna Lounge. Basically, what happened is that when I opened the new club in Williamsburg, I was unable to get enough shows on a regular basis. When the Knitting Factory expressed an interest in working out an arrangement with me I decided to accommodate their interest.
I still own the name Luna Lounge (with my old partner, Dianne) and am interested in finding another space in which to work with bands. If I find an appropriate location, you guys will be the first to know.
In the meantime, I will soon be opening a new bar called The Satellite Lounge on Havemeyer Street in Williamsburg. My good friend, Dave Ellis is my new partner.
The Satellite Lounge will hold about 60-75 people. You'll be able to hear plenty of current indie rock as well as lots of favorite older stuff from many of the previous music scenes from the last twenty years. It will not have 'live' music... We will be doing CD listening parties, birthday events, and be open seven days per week.
2008 was a tough one. Let's make the new year more enjoyable.
I'll let you know when we have an opening date in the next few weeks.Best wishes,
Rob Sacher

smart business move. they'll make so much more money having a regular bar than a music venue.

That's what happens when you move to Williamsburg: everyone from NJ, non-WB Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, Westchester will start seeing less shows at your venue. Same fate with KF. They will not make it to 2011. Not hating on WB, it's just inconvenient to get to if you don't live there.

it's been mentioned before in the comments section that there has been NO COVERAGE about the closing of kim's video on st. marks, can you change that? it's a place many people hold dear to their hearts not to mention that it has been around almost a decade longer than Luna Lounge. it's a new york institution. how about a little respect?

kim's is moving around the corner right?? or is that just a temporary location?

still sad that it'll be a fraction of its former self but at least it won't be gone completely.

Is it better to burn out or to fade away?

There wasn't a nice person to work with when booking a show then Rob. All the best in 2009 my friend!

Too bad. I only went to one show at the new Luna but it seemed like a nice space.

A new bar in Williamsburg!! How exciting! This guy must be a genius business-man. It's just what Williamsburg needs!

"too bad they didn't close some crappy Todd P spot instead"
Who is "they"? This was a failed business. It didn't get "closed" by "them".

Glasslands is nicer.

Dave Ellis is a scumbag, faux gangster asshole...he's basically the epitome of shady...the amount of illegal dealings he's involved in are unbelievable, it's amazing he hasn't been deported back to canada....

Hey Robby Rob, warm up a bar stool for me in the new place. Missed you sweety and glad to see you're back in action. You're still number one in my book. See ya soon, Tracy

looking forward to the new place. everything that rob's ever done was warm and friendly.

Rob is a kind individual who always has the nyc music scene's best interest at heart. Luna failed; it was just too big for local bands. I guarantee his new bar will be warm, inviting and unpretentious.

Rob is deluded: Luna Lounge (II) closed down due to a general lack of interest in the crappy shows he was booking, plain and simple. He should consider running a VFW hall instead.

I took a chance on Williamsburg and invested everything into a good club we built from scratch. Some personal friends gave me memorable sold out nights with their fine performances. Will always remember Stellastarr*, Longwave, Dub Trio, and Steve Forbert.
Really appreciate the agents who believed in us enough to book some great shows with The Black Angels, The Pierces, Moony Suzuki, Meat Puppets, and other memorable nights.
Just wish more agents could have been able to support the space by booking shows for their artists but the powers that be made that impossible.
I'm just a single independent club owner. I'm not a major corporation. I tried to bring a first class concert hall to the neighborhood. I didn't understand the politics involved.
Oh well, we're all still here. Maybe we can find a new space and give it one more try. Go back to the Ludlow Street design and business model....
But for now, come to the Satellite and have a drink and try your luck at pinball...The ipod is well behaved.
