Do you think My Bloody Valentine the movie had to pay royalties to My Bloody Valentine the band?
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 11:27 AM
isnt the movie about the band?
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 11:44 AM
The 1981 movie version of "My Bloody Valentine" predates the band...
I'm sure the band is named after the film...
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 11:52 AM
Irish shoegaze band My Bloody Valentine gets its name from the film. The pop-punk band Good Charlotte has a song of the same title.

Not to sound like a know-it-all, but regardless of which one came first, neither a band nor a film production company would have to pay royalties to the other for such a shared name scenario because they're two seperate forms of media and there's little or no chance of confusion in the marketplace. Oh...and the plot of the schlocky horror film has absolutely nothing to do with the band.

@blackhat: Have you forgotten that the RHCP sued over the use of the title "Californication" by the cable TV series starring David Duchovny?

Dengue Fever at Highline Ballroom
Posted by Anonymous | January 11, 2009 4:04 PM
@Anon4:02 - RHCP may have sued...but what was the outcome? The series certainly aired, so RHCP clearly weren't able to prevent the use of the name.

@Wembley and Anons 10:22 & 2:37 - Sadly, it looks like it ain't gonna happen. Certainly not the best game for Manning to suffer a meltdown.

Posted by Jan | January 12, 2009 8:27 AM
