Yacht @ CLL PHN LCKN 09 @ 92YTribeca, NYC - pics
words & photos by Fresh Bread

CLL PHN LCKN 09, put on a not-so-secret cell phone experiment Monday (1/26) at the new 92Y Tribeca venue in... Tribeca. The event, organized by LVHRD, was a group experiment encouraging socializing via text messaging. You might be saying what the hell? This instructional video, below, will help in understanding the events of the night.
Each attendee received a protective Mobiguard white jumpsuit (like something out of the Beastie Boys "Intergalactic" video) with an assigned four digit number and instructions on how to register their bio to their number. Once registered, you could text-message-socialize by texting other people's suit numbers to retrieve their bios. You could also use the system to send messages to other party-goers, all of which were then projected in a scrolling fashion on screens near the bar and stage. Yacht came on sometime around 10:30pm and performed for about 60 minutes.

The fact that this guy can make it in this "scene" scares the shit out of me....
Were any of you there when he opened for LCD Soundsystem at Studio B? One of the worst sets of music I have ever had to endure for an opening act...is he some gimmick or people really like the music? To each his own, but this stuff was just painful....

Dewar's you're really missing your target audience with events like these. Mountain Dew or PBR would be a better choice for a sponsor

"so... what is the point of this again?"
The point is to network and meet other professionals, something you jobless ones wouldn't know anything about.

hey 1:01am,
i would love to see your severed head on a stick. then lightly barbecued, and finally, cut into bite-sized chunks, which i will then wash down with a nice cold one.
pompous much?

This seems pretty neat to me. More like a social experiment than anything else.

no thank you, high-concept partying. this doesn't look fun at all.
the dork who texted those stream-of-conscious bob dylan lyrics was probably awfully satisfied with himself when they appeared on the screen, though.
