"On paper it wouldn't really seem like these two bands, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti (pictured above) and Vivian Girls, would have that much in common, but the two bands have struck up a friendship that has resulted in a 13 date tour this spring, which will end with both bands making their first appearances at Coachella. Both bands have other upcoming tour dates, Vivian Girls will open a string of dates for M. Ward, including an appearance at The Apollo, and will be playing SXSW. Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti will tour in March with Canadians Duchess Says and have a couple one-off shows in LA with Animal Collective and Gang Gang Dance." [PR]The Ariel Pink / Vivian Girls tour kicks off at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on April 2nd. Tickets for that show go on Am Ex presale on Wednesday at noon, and then regular sale Friday. Maybe a lot has changed in 4 years, but I saw Ariel Pink open for Slint at their reunion show in Louisville, and it was literally the worst live performance I've ever seen in my life. Ariel strummed lazily on a guitar and howled into a microphone while another guy fiddled with effects pedals while screaming into a microphone (on all fours!) and a bassist played uninterestedly. It was unfathomably bad. At least Slint made up for it, and how.

ariel pink have a pretty complicated sound and its true sometimes they nail it at shows and sometimes they don't, but can't deny shit's hot!

shit is often hot, as is the rectum. outdoor below certain temperatures, it steams...elegant phenomenon

well Ariel has kind of regrouped into a more standard psychedelic noise-pop formation. heroin addict guitarist, man-child bassist, normal keyboardist, Ariel on crack and Héctor Jiménez on drums.

Thank god I have seats for M. Ward. Now I can show up late and miss the Vivian Girls. It's a band you can't escape. Past gigs I 'missed' them: Titus @ Maxwells, King Khan/BBQ @ Bowery, and now M. Ward. God, please stick to playing the Court Tavern in Hub City!
