Deer Tick

"On Friday at the Bowery Ballroom I saw a great show by the Providence band Deer Tick. During my stay in Providence for 4 years while attending RISD there was a Deer Tick show almost every weekend at AS220. For me Deer Tick and their War Elephant album was basically my soundtrack for school, and it gave me warm fuzzy feeling to see them in New York at such a great venue.

The only negative part of the evening was me dropping my camera from the balcony, but miraculously it didn't hurt anybody and managed to survive." [Adam Schmidt]

Deer Tick are now on tour. More pictures from the Friday the 13th show, and the latest set of dates, below...

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 12:16 PM

Right when I was walking in I saw their van get hit by that other car, the person that hit their car didn't even skip a beat and just kept on going, what an asshole

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 12:18 PM

That car was a Port Authority vehicle

i want to know where the fuck he got that jazzmaster. it's so nice.

and great pics tracy.

Posted by dan | February 16, 2009 12:45 PM

No crowd pics? This looks like it could have been a band rehearsal.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 1:19 PM

1:19PM-- It was a sold out show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 1:27 PM

albany, new york.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 1:43 PM

Sold out? When. There were still tickets on sale the day of the show, and at the door. The show was about 1/2 to 2/3 full. Deer Tick is really excellent, but at this point its a reach to book them as a headliner on a Friday night at Bowery. Two weeks from now, they are the opener for Jason Isbell at Bowery, which is a more realistic slot for them.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 2:08 PM

as someone who was turned away at the door, this show was definitely sold out.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 2:11 PM

When did you get there, midnight?
At 9 pm, I walked up to the big security guy, asked if it was sold out, got a grunt and a point downstairs where there were still tickets.
Upstairs the crowd on the main floor never even went as far back as the bar.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 2:15 PM

at like 11, which was before the band started.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 2:28 PM

nah, that ain't right. big jim rolled up at 1130 and sashayed into the ballroom for some sweet licks. and he bought his ticket at the door.

Posted by bigjim | February 16, 2009 2:54 PM

it was completely packed. i couldn't even move. no idea how anyone could say it wasn't sold out... My friends tried to get in at 1130 and were turned away.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 3:05 PM

You must come from a rural area. I believe anon 215 and BigJim. Let's see some crowd pix.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 3:29 PM

yeah, why aren't there any crowd pics? the band is totally irrelevant. I only go to see the crowd.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 3:40 PM

When was the last time you saw a photo post on BV that didn't included at least 3 or 4 crowd shots?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 3:59 PM

i feel dumber for reading the comment section above.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 4:07 PM

3:40 --
Photographers are there to document the event. By ignoring the crowd, the photographer isn't capturing the environment. There are six or seven redundant pics of the lead singer of Deertick. Besides, it's cool to see crowd pics. It's one of the reasons I visit this site.

Can anyone ramble off some of the set list for the show and approx how long Deer Tick played for?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 5:30 PM

I know that some of the songs they opened with were art isn't real, la la la, and spend the night, and ashamed.

I think they ended with christ jesus and these old shoes.

nice pictures

You visit this site for crowd pics?

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 7:27 PM

i agree on the crowd pic parts. i like seeing pics of the band and the crowd...it gives the vibe.

Posted by Anonymous | February 16, 2009 9:44 PM

are crowd pics the new daft punk?

i can't even tell when you're joking or not anymore.

either way, it's not funny.

ps-deer this, deer that. who can keep up? can't tell 'em apart.

re: the jazzmaster

must be a warmouth or something. headstock doesn't say fender.

color looks similar to one of the recent thinskins, but not exact.

definitely a little frankenstein machine, but it's really beautiful.

Posted by Sacred Absolute Hipster Cow | February 17, 2009 11:12 AM

mccauley built that jazzmaster clone himself

Music is a man of wisdom, human solidarity, to a world of music to the joy and gladness. the great musician was an indelible contributions to mankind, heard the music makes people easy to think of the great Michael Jackson, the fine as the voice of God give the wounded in the soul. we thank him, and will always love him
