Teengirl Fantasy

You don't hear too much from Celebration lately. Well, not totally true. The Baltimore band, known for being tight with Brooklyn's TV on the Radio, are credited as collborators on the new Holly Miranda album that was co-produced by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek. And this Saturday night, February 21st, Celebration plays a Brooklyn show at Glasslands - the very venue members of TV on the Radio have turned up to play with their side projects in the last few weeks. TV on the Radio also have a NYC show coming up. Holly Miranda has a couple too.

Sound Fix Records, the venue, is not long for this world. Upcoming free shows there include a Friday night (tonight) performance by The Forms, and a Saturday one by Howlies. Tonight's Forms show, presented by Guilt by Association, also doubles as a Sound Fix benefit show, so look for the tip jar as its being passed around. Howlies' record "Trippin With Howlies" is out now. That is the occasion they'll be celebrating when they come back to town to play Death By Audio on February 26th.

Telepathe have been added to the Ladytron and Faint tour in April. That means they'll be playing Webster Hall on the 10th and 11th of that month. No need to wait that long though. In addition to some shows at SXSW in March, you can catch Telepathe twice in NYC this weekend, courtesy of Todd P. Tonight, February 20th, the show is at Market Hotel with These Are Powers, Teengirl Fantay, Soft Circle and Katie Eastburn. Saturday they play with Teengirl Fantasy, Hawnay Troof, and Silk Flowers at 92Y Tribeca. Todd P says...

Especially excited about the 2 shows this weekend featuring TEENGIRL FANTASY from Oberlin, Ohio. Teengirl Fantasy, aka Logan Takahashi and Nick Weiss, are two young guys currently attending Oberlin College, together they make drum machine and sampler heavy dance music that steals as much from the underground noise scene as it does from the dance world. Teengirl Fantasy smash those influences to make transcendently catchy adrenaline anthems that get everyone dancing.
Teengirl Fantasy remixed one of Telepathe's songs. Listen to it in the video below...

teengirl fantasy really surprised me at CMJ last year and I'm really looking forward to catching them tomorrow.

Oberlin, OH?

Posted by Freepster | February 20, 2009 11:16 PM

what's the deal with that Argentinian and that girl?

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 2:40 AM

Tingle Fingers were asked by Teengirl Fantasy to design the posters for the 92 Y Tribeca show, but Todd P apparently threatened to cancel every show he booked for them if Tingle Fingers were allowed to do the posters. Talk about going out of your way to fuck people over.

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 3:40 AM

teengirl fantasy ruled hard tonite!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 3:47 AM

3:40, you're drunk. go to bed. your stories aren't making any sense.

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 5:09 AM

3:40 isn't lying. Todd P has definitely gone out of his way to fuck over Tingle Fingers and that sucks that he's willing to be that immature about it.

Also, Telepathe sucks wayyyy too hard to be playing that many shows.

god tingle fingers and teengirl fantasy. there is a 99 percent chance i know who is making these comments.

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 6:47 AM

what was up with the "fuck bv" rant from telepathe tonight? something pissed them off enough to carry on about it all night.

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 7:06 AM

Anymore info on the Glasslands show tonight (doors, other bands playing, etc)?

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 7:25 AM

Hey guys thanks for the gossip! How awesome. There were a lot of reasons the Tingle Fingers poster for this tour fell through. Does it need to be public? Naw. No "threats" were made. Just be on the lookout for future collabs of TGiF and TF. Thanks for the concern n shit, but we are big boiz and kan take kare of ourselves!

High School Bathroom wall anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 12:00 PM

kids chill. It's about the ~music~.

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 12:04 PM

so... tingle fingers seems really really petty

so todd p's a jerk just because he didn't hire them? does that logic make sense to anybody?

I hear Barack Obama is an asshole. I'm extrapolating that from the fact that he never hired tingle feathers to make his campaign posters. the nerve on that guy!

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 12:16 PM

What is a Tingle Feather?

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 12:29 PM

nobody cares

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 12:31 PM

market hotel souded terrific last night

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 1:12 PM

if I were in Telepathe, I'd hate on Brooklyn Vegan comments too. They get skewered far more than they deserve

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 2:25 PM

tingle fingers makes mad good posters, why is todd p hatin?

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 3:50 PM

"tingle fingers makes mad good posters, why is todd p hatin? "

You sound like a moron 3:50. Stop talkin shit. Nobody cares about Todd P's business and who he hired or didn't hire to make posters. Nobody especially cares about "tingle fingers".

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 4:27 PM

THAT'S WHAT YOU THINK.

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 4:43 PM

Teengirl Fantasy + Tingle Fingers = Total Felchathon

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 5:28 PM

todd p haters are hilarious.

they love him love him love him until he doesn't endorse their band / dj night / art / project, then they hate him like he killed their puppy with his bare hands

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 5:49 PM

"what was up with the "fuck bv" rant from telepathe tonight? something pissed them off enough to carry on about it all night."

YES, what was up with that? I thought I misheard them. Teengirl was sort of a letdown last night. :/

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 5:59 PM

What was up with that is pretty simple. Telepathe is one in a long line of female-fronted bands hung out to dry by "bv" so that 100s of negative comments can be posted and drive up the hits to the site. Its good to see another band sticking up for themselves against this disgusting practice.

This is probably the topic that pissed them off:
http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2008/11/telepathe_2008.html

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 6:15 PM

Posting a band's tour dates and news is not "hanging a band out to dry". some commenters are just jerks.

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 6:31 PM

I doubt them being female has anything to do with it either, like you're implying. And they are not that great live either... so.

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 6:53 PM

Anonymous commenters make some shitty comments, but BV isn't doing anything "disgusting" by posting info about the band. Nothing about the post linked by anon6:15 objectifies Telepathe in any way, and the only vaguely negative part of the post is where he mentions that they're not everyone's favorite live band. And you know what? There's nothing wrong with criticizing their live show. Negative criticism is not the same thing as a petty, misogynistic hatchet job.

It's not BV's fault that pictures of females make the anonymous creepers come out of the woodwork. Bands like Telepathe and Vivian Girls should learn to just avoid the comments section if it offends them so much.

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 8:50 PM

either way, they were on the subject all night. and for a post dating back to last year? they made it seem like bv made a telepathe bashing post earlier that day. obviously they were irritated and angry throughout the set. PMS?

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 10:12 PM

telepathe sucks

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 11:43 PM

Telepathe is pretty god damn awful, and I went to Sarah Lawrence, so I know awful when I see it.

Hopefully their BV anger will be focused into a better album/live show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2009 3:09 AM

hopefully they just stop doing albums/live shows.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2009 4:12 AM

telepathe were great tonight, you haters were proven wrong

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2009 5:10 AM

There's a difference between the way people malign Vivian Girls (crude sexist comments) and the way people malign Telepathe (calling them a terrible band). It's not BV's fault that when he posts news and/or dates for Telepathe (provided by a publicist), that people hate on them. Most blogs editorialize much more than BV. I don't really think it'd be fair to blame him for other peoples' opinions.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2009 1:43 PM

'and I went to Sarah Lawrence, so I know awful when I see it. '

i am seriously L-O-Ling right now.

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2009 7:34 PM

I hope Telepathe destroys all of you fools

Posted by Anonymous | February 22, 2009 8:54 PM

Telepathe is blowing up big time all over the place and internationally, on the strength of their album (which is excellent, by the way), so they will probably not be caring about Brooklyn Vegan commenters at all, very soon.

Teengirl Fantasy was really great at 92Y. Old school electronic dance and ambient music that they improvise on and structure like it's noise music. I'm sure they'll be snatched up and signed to a good label any day now. Their video dude was projecting some killer stuff also.

The sound at 92Y was terrific and Market Hotel sounded specially good as well.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2009 2:14 PM

^^^^ LOL "blowing up"

mmm hmmm

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2009 2:38 PM

laugh out loud all you want.

I'm not a Telepathe fan but that new record is being very well received. They are blowing up by any objective measure. Market Hotel and 92Y were both packed.

They're one of the bands from New York that people from the rest of the world talk about a lot, regardless of what the Brooklyn Vegan comment cretins think.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2009 3:03 PM

Telepathe was really good everyone talks shit but they were amazing at market hotel. i'm sure the bv rant was exaggerated by the fact that the power kept going out during their set and they were probably frustrated most bands give a shit about sound and being reviewed by anyone when your power keeps going out sucks~

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 6:36 PM

they probably shouldn't have kept stepping on powers strips then.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 8:16 PM

hmm i haven't seen them since last year and avoided every show they played. so maybe after time they have gotten better as you kids claim
perhaps i'll venture to see them for the faint show and see if their live show is atleast up to par with their studio work (which still isn't good to me).
have you seen that video?! they're even awkward with their videos, i couldn't finish watching it! are they feigning obscurity and insecurity, they really shouldn't it's not a good look and makes my spine tingle

i don't know i like nite jewel alot better, it's like what telepathe would sound like if they knew what they were doing and weren't dragging your attention away with a repetitive heavy beat and awkward squirming

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2009 1:45 PM

thanks wery nise yur site

Posted by bursa evden eve nakliyat | March 31, 2009 5:13 PM

I think it has a lot to do with them being female and different than the rest of these rock bands. telepathe is going to be around for a long time (I hope). this is true punk
