Janes Addiction

Metallica. And Jane's Addiction! (maybe)

In possibly related news, "Stay tuned for more info on the Annual Late Night Playboy Party presented by Jack Daniel's in partnership with C3 at SXSW in March."

In definitely related news, Jane's Addiction is playing Sasquatch and will soon announce more tour dates with Nine Inch Nails.

why do people still care about this band?

Posted by d | February 24, 2009 4:11 PM

because they are great!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:12 PM

because their original lineup is back together

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:13 PM

because that would be sweet if they were in Austin

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:15 PM

Perry Farrell is a legend!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:16 PM

Jane's Addiction: Yes!

Metallica: Go away.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:17 PM

i dont understand why people care either. i just watched videos of their reunion, "whores" sounds like it belongs on guitar hero/rock band (if it isnt already). "mountain song" is similar, total, total bro rock. this might as well be a post about a new red hot chili peppers album.

not even mentioning, dave navarro is in this band! is there a bigger embarrassment in the music industry? rock star: supernova anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:26 PM

Do you guys realize that many "bros" are listening to the same shit you are these days? Do you really think it's music that sets your two worlds apart? Ha.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:29 PM

You schmucks who don't get it are definitely under 30, maybe even 25. Makes sense.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:30 PM

4:49, no, I don't like MGMT, vampire weekend, or MIA, if thats what youre thinking of.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:33 PM

I didn't know Kenny G was in Jane's Addiction!

Posted by Spine-führer of Hoboken | February 24, 2009 4:35 PM

i dont get this at all...and i am 32 and saw the first Lollapalooza with NIN in NJ. One of the best musical experiences of my youth.

While NIN (Trent) has evolved over the years...these guys (with exception of Avery) have become jokes! Navarro is a tool...remember his MTV show with Carmen Electra! And yes i love Perry and his insanity...but he is a caricature of his old self. When Jane's were dangerous and experimental they were great...think of THE GIFT! Not Jane's of new...i dont care if its the new lineup. They are now the band who play during the opening credits of Entourage...i bet they implode by end of tour!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:38 PM

also: Rage Against the Machine.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:39 PM

Nearly all the member of Jane's & Chili Peppers became cliches of themselves over a decade ago...and if the music sounds like bro rock maybe that's because the music has been around for 20+ years. Watch Jane's Addiciton: The Gift rather than some lame reunion video to see what a "bro band" they are.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:39 PM

The 90s belong to Janes. They are more of a novelty act now. Navarro seems like a douche (Yes, I do remember that horrible show where I learned, unfortunately, how into high end fashion etc he was), but Perry (although nowhere near his prior, crazy self) will always be a legend.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:43 PM

"why do people still care about this band?"

If you have to ask, you'll never know.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:46 PM

Let's also not forget that drugs played a very (VERY) vital role in their existence (and demise) in the 90's.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:47 PM

Wtf is "bro rock?"

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:48 PM

They brought peace to my mind
In the summertime...
And it rolled

Posted by Big Perm | February 24, 2009 4:54 PM

hey they may sound like bro now but Jane's were the shit back in the late 80s/early 90s.

Posted by lovigilante | February 24, 2009 4:55 PM

They actually put out most of their better music (in my humble opinion) in the late 80s and 1990.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 4:57 PM

Bro Rock was limp biskit then...and My Morning Jacket now.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 5:00 PM

"why do people still care about this band?"

"If you have to ask, you'll never know."

...oh i know but it's really stupid how everyone goes ape shit when ever a band reunites, sounds like shit and is basically doing it for the money.

case closed.

arena tour it seems

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 5:50 PM

I am over 30 and loved Jane's when I was 16, and I don't give a fuck that they're back together. Just because you loved something when you were young doesn't mean it was good...how great is the average 16 year old's taste in music these days? Are you taking cues from them? JA's music is tacky as hell, and really not that far from being the LA cock rock they supposedly existed in opposition to. Give me Guns N Roses any day - they turned out to be the LA band of that era that actually had something lasting to say...

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 6:14 PM

personally I liked Janes addiction when they were reinventing themselves with every song, and actually doing something cool.

They are not cool anymore. It makes me sad, because i listened to them religiously when I was 16 - unfortunately, im with the comment above me...

they no longer inspire me in any way but nostalgia. especially navarro.

Posted by Dion Roy | February 24, 2009 6:26 PM

Dave Navarro is on town today....just saw him playing a song for ZRock on IFC at Webster Hall.
Was awesome!

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 6:30 PM

bro rock:

matisyahu, citizen cope, red hot chili peppers, dave matthews, OAR, third eye blind (though i dont find their music atrocious).

stuff that college "bros" that go to large state schools most likely are a fan of. most likely wear backwards hats and are in fraternities.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 7:25 PM

dont forget jack johnson

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 7:26 PM

speaking of reunions, ive heard some talk of a Pearl Jam appearance at Yaps secret going away party thursday night. can anyone confirm?

Posted by yapsonfireshotspecials | February 24, 2009 8:02 PM

Man, there's a solid contingency of very ignorant, stereotyping, pompous dicks around here.

Posted by Anonymous | February 24, 2009 9:38 PM

never hurts to stereotype bro scum because THEYRE ALL THE SAME

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2009 12:29 AM

BRO-DACIOUS!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2009 1:18 AM

Woop!

Posted by Oliver | February 25, 2009 4:23 AM

something i learned today (from bv commenters):
Bro rock, bad!

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2009 8:40 AM

"...oh i know but it's really stupid how everyone goes ape shit when ever a band reunites, sounds like shit and is basically doing it for the money. case closed."

Unless you actually know these guy's personally, you don't know shit about the reason why they're doing this. And if they are doing it for the money, good for them. As if you wouldn't take the money? And I'll bet that when they take the stage, Jane's makes the shit bands from this decade look and sound even more ridiculous.

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2009 10:37 AM

Perry is the ultimate sell out.
It's almost like he's ripping off his
own music. He seemed to care about
a new and excited world during lolapalooza
times and now resorts to using strippers for
his live performances of "classic girl" at venues
that all start with names of giant corporations.
Asshole

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2009 11:28 AM

Perry Farrell has played the "john varvatos " shoes store twice now but never played there when it was CBGB.

He does it for the shoes ... not the music

Posted by Anonymous | February 25, 2009 12:23 PM

Perry Farrell is old, and finished. He should go back to his rich home, and keep the fuck out of the SXSW's. Leave that for the new artists, give them a chance.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2009 8:09 AM

rock til you drop

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2009 10:30 AM

yeah using strippers is not cool, also when he let that asshole rapper play a side stage at Lolla few years back I forget his name, the white guy whod bring strippers out and all that misogynistic crap. Lost a lot of respect right there.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2009 10:35 AM

WTF?!...YEA STRIPPERS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2009 10:39 AM

10:35a, 10:39a

Either women or gay.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2009 11:29 AM

Scratch that. Just 10:35a

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2009 11:30 AM

Thanks for clarifying, we were all biting our nails off wondering about that

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2009 12:04 PM

10:35am is a Purtian douche.

Posted by Anonymous | February 26, 2009 12:22 PM

There is only one city called Los Angeles and one band that formed in Hollywood thats Jane's Addiction

Posted by lahipster | February 27, 2009 9:34 PM

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2009 1:06 PM

I'll be at the show...hate on....

Posted by Craig | March 19, 2009 10:26 PM

After listening to a few songs, I can understand why Jane's Addiction is called this way... it's addictive! I would like to see them playing with Metallica as I'm a big fan since I was a kid.
