OFFICIAL UPDATE:

The 2009 Langerado Music Festival has been cancelled due to sluggish ticket sales.

Langerado's independent local promoters, faced with a very tough decision in a dismal economy, cancelled the 2009 event only after every possible option was exhausted.

As Langerado Co-Promoter Ethan Schwartz explains, "Langerado has always put the fan experience first. Unfortunately, during these difficult economic times, and facing a first year in a new venue, it's become apparent that we cannot execute a production that lives up to the high standards of our past events. Putting Langerado on hold was the toughest decision we have ever had to make. We are very grateful for the support of the greater-Miami community and the music community during this difficult time."

All tickets purchased will be refunded. Please look for ticket refunds to be processed in the next 5-7 business days. Each order will be refunded to the credit card in full, minus the included order processing fees. Shipping fees will also be credited for those orders that did not select the free shipping promotion. For information on ticket refunds please contact Music Today

In related news, Ultra Music Festival is still happening in the same city, though Miami's BANG! Festival is still dead since it was at first "postponed" in 2007.

And, Bonnaroo and Coachella just announced their initial lineups.

When/where was this announced? The Langerado website doesn't say anything about this.

Posted by anon | February 3, 2009 1:27 PM

That news announcement at Langerado was only posted a few minutes ago - people were right to be dubious until confirmed, and BV was right that it was canceled.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 1:31 PM

I heard they couldn't get Yaps to headline so they canceled - that dude needs to come out of retirement!

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 1:35 PM

they rushed the official announcement because of this news posting

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 1:36 PM

yeah, but anyone who reads this site knows that BV always has the scoop. he couldn't provide a link cause he posted it before they announced it, but he knew.

well, dang. the whole thing, cancelled. true. and because of the economy? that sucks.

BV is like a musical superhero! Viva la BV!

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 1:42 PM

Cubans don't dig indie rock. It has nothing to do with the economy.

Dear Tour Manager-types:

Do bands get their guarantee when something like this happens? Does it depend on the band?

- Curious

Posted by Curious | February 3, 2009 1:50 PM

Why on earth would BV make something like this up? The comments on here are bizarre sometimes. This is just a C&P of the press release from Madison House publicity, who do the PR for Langerado.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 1:56 PM

@ Curious. It all depends if contracts were already signed and the terms and conditions of the specific deals. There's no "golden rule" other than larger acts have more leverage and better lawyers and thus can negotiate more favorable terms in their deals...like "kill fees" for instance.

Posted by blackhat | February 3, 2009 1:59 PM

If the bands booked their hotels on Hotwire they can't get a refund for it. Langerado should pay for that :)

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 2:12 PM

1:56 - the press release wasn't up when the post first went up. it was unattributed.

Thank god I chose to go to harvest of hope festival. who knows, that might get axed too or maybe the bands might move over from langerado to harvest of hope.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 2:20 PM

They announced this the same day as Bonnaroo lineup was announced in hopes that it wouldn't get much coverage.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 2:26 PM

They still keep the "ticket processing fees." that's bullshit!. why should i have to pay like $20 for a pair of tix to a show that's cancelled?

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 2:30 PM

I will be stuck in Miami that weekend, partying with all of the bands who have undoubtedly booked their plane tickets and hotels already. Someone has to put something fun together. I'm looking at you Bill Parcells.

Posted by Sissy Saperstein | February 3, 2009 2:38 PM

fyi to the guarantee question. many contracts have promoters pay half up front to the agent. If the promoter cancels the show like this the band if having already gotten their half would keep it. If not it will be a likely unsuccessful struggle for their agent to extract it.

ANTONY....YOU ARE MY SISTER!!! REPRESENT SON!!

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 2:42 PM

good, bad line-up!

hey anon 1:47,

in obama's economy, cubans don't dig hipsters like you that read blogs like this.

c'mon, obama changed the world. we're all supposed to be more open-minded and tolerant now.

let's elect a Cuban in 2012, and then you'll shut the eff up w/ that snooty comment.

get a plate of rice and beans and edumacate yourself!

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 3:13 PM

We need a Federal Festival Bailout. Write your local Congressperson!

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 3:20 PM

they canceled it the day before they were due to pay the deposits. the bands got nothing.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 3:40 PM

I guess everyone realized that Harvest of Hope that weekend in St. Augustine was way cheaper for more or less the same bands.

this cuban will be at harvest of hope.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 3:50 PM

that show was so poorly promoted. I know tons of people in Miami who didn't know about this show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 3:52 PM

this was cancelled yet all points west wasn't? odd...

Posted by slob | February 3, 2009 4:44 PM

we had WAAAAAAYYYYY too many fests last year - bound to be some casualties - bad economy or not.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 7:05 PM

this cancel has just as much to do with strong competition, bad timing, a piss-poor line up when compared to other fests, and poor promotion, as it does to just plain old bad economy.

Seriously, Roo and Coach are far better options, as will be Lolla UMF, Virgin... etc...

still too many fests - fightin for the tighter dollar.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 7:08 PM

I bet APW will happen again.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 7:08 PM

big festivals suck...too big

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 7:13 PM

lolla and roo are too big - the rest are not.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 7:25 PM

miami blows... so does everyone in it. and their hair gel. and their fake gucci sunglasses. and their condos. and their mothers.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 9:12 PM

Miami blows at times... but lets not hate on the venue. The smartest comment thus far was totally, "this cancel has just as much to do with strong competition, bad timing, a piss-poor line up when compared to other fests, and poor promotion, as it does to just plain old bad economy." So true. So sad. Still not Miami's fault, or its hair gel.

Posted by Cat | February 3, 2009 9:44 PM

there is an outdoor stage in the park. someone should put on a free show.

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 10:25 PM

There was an article about promoters offering lay-a-way plays for fest ticket a couple weeks ago and APW was mentioned as one of the shows that would have it. So, yeah it looks like they are bringing it back. Now, I just hope that they A) don't go head to head with Baltimore Virgin again and B) avoid hippie jam band day. (please no Phish).

Posted by Anonymous | February 3, 2009 10:43 PM

Miami does NOT suck, thank you very much. True, its no New York, but there are plenty of times where I wish I was back home in S.Fla rather than here stuck in this crappy snow/rain piss mix. Langerado '09 lineup DID suck, which is why no one was buying tickets for it. Phish and the economy just gave everyone more reason to skip Langerado this year. I just hope that they can regroup and get it together next year.

Posted by dizz | February 4, 2009 12:09 AM

miami is yuck, but doesn't mean anything when its comes to the fest being axed.

ok lineup at a premium price = fail

Posted by Anonymous | February 4, 2009 2:03 AM

Number 1 rule...listen to the fans!! When we first discovered that Langerado would be in Miami so many people said they were not going due to cost.If the powers that be were really being cost efficient they would have considered the economy from the day they thought to move the festival to Miami. People can barley afford to buy the tickets and then you want them to pay for a hotel, which on the website stated they were discounted showing cost from $149 to $299, go to shows in bars/clubs where there will be charged a cover and do not allow re-entry into the park...hmmm...No wonder it was doomed from the start.

Posted by Polarbearrhugg | February 4, 2009 9:46 AM

line up suked...last year in the everglades was the best hard to top it, i knew after phil last year that it was over.

Posted by tcriddle | February 4, 2009 10:42 AM

I opted for Harvest of Hope instead of Langerado this year.... The evrerglades were awesome last year, but who wasnt to go to the middle of the city (Miami) to hold a hippy music fest? Especially since you cant camp or anything.... Pffft.... I have heard rumor that some of the bands are planning on coming to HoH instead though ... so I wouldnt mind seeing that...

Posted by Atari007 | February 5, 2009 8:59 AM

There seems to be more and more festivals every year and Langerado obviously can't keep up with the competition. I don't think it was the economy, more likely it's because their line up this year kind of blows.

Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2009 9:16 AM

APW FTW
its gonna be great this year

Posted by Anonymous | February 5, 2009 9:50 AM

If the promoters would have kept it out of miami and put together a decent lineup maybe things would be different!

Posted by mb | February 5, 2009 12:43 PM

HOH will still go on because it is Grant Funded. Harvest of Hope Fest is a charity event so a few of the bands had only agreed to preform because they were going to Langerado. However, the cancellation of Langerado allowed for some bands to preform who had not previously signed up, so the line up is changing. Either way, you cannot beat the price, even if you only like some of the bands. Also, you can camp. I think it will turn out to be a very cool fest at a very cool price.

Posted by jcricks | February 5, 2009 1:38 PM

im just pissed because i actually bought 2 tickets and when i got my "refund" back for them they were about 30 dollars short...super lame

Posted by ballofashley | February 6, 2009 2:27 PM

Langerado was canceled becasue there was no camping and what kind of festivel has no camping...they lost the big cypress site beacsue REM's tour bus killed a native that lived on the reservation

shit sucks but theres plenty other things to do at the same time

Posted by Duck Tape | March 3, 2009 3:40 PM

Bear Creek. Wanee. Wakarusa. AllGood. Rothbury. Gathering of the Vibes. Get the picture? There's plenty of jam fests keeping it real.

Posted by Scotty | March 20, 2009 12:03 AM

Much deserved, cannot wait for live show again!!!
