Black Dice @ Warsaw in December (more by Chris La Putt)
Black Dice

The artist formerly known as Santogold is performing for free tonight, 2/20, at the Apple Store in SOHO (7-8 pm). Santigold is also on the lineup for this year's Sasquatch Festival.

Blank Dogs has three NYC shows coming up in the near future. The first is tonight (2/20) at Le Poisson Rouge with Black Dice. The second is somewhere on March 7th. The third is March 14th at Music Hall of Williamsburg with Crystal Stilts and Women.

Voxtrot keeps popping back up randomly. Frontman Ramesh is DJing at Le Royale in NYC tonight (2/20), and the whole band is listed as playing SXSW in their hometown of Austin in March (though I hear there have been some lineup changes).

Set times for tonight would be nice. I haven't been able to get anybody at LPR on the phone. I assume the DJ is just a between bands kinda thing and not a DJ set?

"anyone have a reasonable timeframe in which blank dogs is coming on tonight? i dont feel liek seeing black dice or the other dj"

Worst. Comment. Ever.

try this on:

'I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast!'

'EWWWW you eat pieces of shit for breakfast?!"

actually, blank dogs and black dice have combined to form Black Dogs' Blank Dice, and instead of playing music, there will only be an EXTANDED DJ Set

Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2009 6:19 PM

i'm gonna EXTAND my foot up your ass

Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2009 8:04 PM

i miss voxtrot

Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2009 11:10 PM

the sitch with voxtrot is, mitch and jared are gone, jared having burned the bridge and mitch only sort of ish-gone, maybe to return.

Posted by kandival | February 21, 2009 6:18 AM

oh and and like there's a big thing down here in austin about their new song being ((S E C E RETT)) only, whatevs. its called "Trepanation Party", which sounds really interesting except that it sounds just like Duran Duran on Zoloft. surprise.

Posted by kandival | February 21, 2009 6:53 AM

really, just goes to show you: ripping off the sixties is time much better spent than ripping off the eighties.

"the sitch with voxtrot is, mitch and jared are gone, jared having burned the bridge and mitch only sort of ish-gone, maybe to return."

I heard Mitch was completely out of the band, but is now back. How was Ramesh's DJ set?

Posted by Anonymous | February 21, 2009 1:01 PM

Black Dice were phenomenal, as always. if Ramesh was the DJ, he gets a handshake from me for blasting the Birthday Party's "Release The Bats" right into Fleetwood Mac's "Tusk."

blank dogs aren't any good at all. i was hopeful, but no, i won't be arriving early to no fun fest for their set... in fact, i wonder what they're even doing on the bill for no fun fest, how lame.

the dj at this show had the worst taste in music, Im talking shitty ELO/Fleetwood Mac and the ilk from the 70s, I mean total utter crap for one hour we had to listen to. I think that was the first time in my life I was actually tempted to go up to the dj booth and boo this guy.

Blank Dogs pretty much sucked. They inspired at most 5 people to clap politely. What a fucking dispappointment. One monotonous mid-tempo number after another. No part of this band was any good or stood out, except for being exceptionally mediocre. I think the drummer got the job because he was a skinny dude that girls might dig.

Black Dice brought their normal program, if slightly shorter at about 40 minutes. Visuals were better than they used to be. Did too much chanting for my tastes, also changed tempos a bit too much, I think they were better when they stayed on the same riff for half hours. Best part of the night was from minute 18 to minute 24.

As far as No Fun Fest, Im hoping there's another band called Blank Dogs that has nothing to do with this band that played friday night.

Or else that they will be ditching this middle of the road "the hold steady" inspired material, for their own good..

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2009 10:35 AM

I wasn't there on Friday night, were Blank Dogs really that bad? The last time I saw them was at that Wavves/Nodzzz show at LAMC and they put on the best performance that night...by far.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2009 10:44 AM

well let me put it this way I think when they noticed they weren't getting much of a reaction from the crowd, they rushed their songs, didn't pause between songs for more than 2 or 3.

I thought it weird because the music was not at all approprite for a band that will open for Black Dice (you're expecting something hard/experimental), I mean them opening for Crystal Stilts might be a good match, but No Fun Fest, that's not a good match.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2009 11:06 AM

blank dogs looked as bored playing their songs as we were listening to them.

Posted by M | February 23, 2009 2:50 PM

did you just compare blank dogs to the hold steady? that's some serious ignorance right there.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2009 2:57 PM

it's weird because Blank Dogs were pretty much stellar at Less Artists two weeks ago.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2009 2:58 PM

what's the saying? all style? no substance?

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2009 3:12 PM

the style wasn't even any good.

Posted by Anonymous | February 23, 2009 3:22 PM

THIS BLANK DOGS HYPE NEEDS TO BLOW THE FUCK OVER. THEY SUCK.
