The Jackson (Stake House) open, Vanishing Point closed
The Jackson Ave Steakhouse (via)

Vanishing Point's schedule still lists show starting on February 22nd. Maybe it's reopening soon. All I know is it was closed against its will since at least Friday the 13th.
In more positve NYC venue news, "Thanks to your top citizen Todd P, we've got a new all-ages DIY steakhou--er, show-space starting up this weekend." Stake House, aka The Jackson, is located at 12-23 Jackson Ave in Long Island City, Queens. Details for both of this weekend's shows, below...

So, i spoke to a ToddP promoter/employee back in november. this individual told me that ToddP is going to open an actual legit legal venue that is going to host all his shows...meaning the market hotel, death by audio and the rest of his 'venues' won't host shows anymore.
Has anyone heard any further information about this? I hope this new place, the jackson, is not the new permanent toddP location. Queens is far.

same story, different year

depends where you've coming from. Very convenient location if you're coming by subway, and that's key. Surely also easier to get to from Manhattan/Queens.

He is not the only booker at those spaces now, so why would they stop doing shows if he moved on?

FUCK BROOKLYNVEGAN
BRING BACK VANISHINGPOINT
Posted by Anonymous | February 20, 2009 11:21 AM
the spots wouldn't close if that happened, and obviously the Jackson is not Todd P's permanent space... please try not to pointlessly scare people with totally incorrect information.

whatever you do, do NOT eat anything at this place. the rats out number the patrons every night.

The venue space is just next to the restaurant and has its own entrance. Vegans shouldn't be afraid.

"the market hotel, death by audio and the rest of his 'venues' won't host shows anymore"
This is complete and utter nonsense.

Word. 7 will work tonight, but if you are going tomorrow you have to take the E or G or otherwise the 7 shuttle bus. Still way easy.

well, 10:42, 5:17 wasn't totally right.
i mean, obviously it takes certain measures and some money (how much varies greatly) to open any venue, "illegal" or not. one can open a diy or open studio 54, and everything in between.
to imply that there wasn't money spent to "do it correctly" is simply not true, and really quite silly to make that assumption.
and quite frankly, i'm not naive about such things. we opened vp will full awareness of the risks.
the nature of our being "shut down" has a great deal to do with bad luck, timing, and other less than clear cut factors. the same can be said for virtually all the other venues that do what we do. everyone has their story and experiences. hopefully we (and everyone) can come out of it better, as we hope to do.
as for the schedule, we've been canceling on a week to week basis, as we're not down for the count yet.
point of fact, there's no simplistic reason/answer to matters like this. much like the opinions on here, there are widely differing ways one can go about hosting a venue such as we have.
i'm just trying to do it without breaking the bank and remaining true to our (by our i mean the friends who started vp and the community of which we're a part) values of independence and creativity outside the mainstream.
thx for supporting us (and all the other venues).
