The Walkmen @ Masonic Temple in December (more by Natasha Ryan)
The Walkmen

"We live in scary times. Sure, we might wonder how that inane Southern California woman is going to feed fourteen mouths, but what about the family whose breadwinners lost their jobs, and now have not only no money to pay the mortgage, but feed their kids?

No one seems to care about those people. Everyone's too selfish. I've got mine, fuck you. But what if you suddenly don't have yours anymore?

You used to sell ten million records, now you can't even sell two. Those damn pirates! But those pirates are real people. Who overpaid to hear one good track on a CD. They've got no sympathy for you. And they may overpay to see superstars once, but not forever. The Stones don't sell out anymore. Nor does Springsteen, not even Madonna. The printed grosses are high, but that's because of the inflated ticket prices.

Is the concert industry headed for a fall? Just like the recorded music industry?" [Bob Lefsetz]

In related news, Live Nation and Ticketmaster announced plans to merge.

The Walkmen opening for Kings of Leon?!!!!! Oh, the humanity!!!!

Yet another proof that there's no justice in the music industry.

About that excerpt on concerts, maybe if they stopped charging like 100 bucks a ticket (even more in the case of those superstars) they'd sell those concerts out. That's just ridiculous if you ask me, you can barely see the artist! "Oh yeah, that little ant down there is Madonna, she looks good for a 50+ woman."

Maybe people would pay to see you once a year, if you've got a new album, but don't expect them to go to 4/5 or more concerts!

I'm more than happy that most of the bands I like play in the $15-$35 range, which means I can possibly see them multiple times in a year.

im sorry but if i had the chance to go on a sold out tour and make some real money being in a band, my taste can go fuck itself...good move walkmen...

Posted by geroge | February 10, 2009 5:01 PM

Great spot on Eli! I guess he does the band gig in the off season.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2009 5:07 PM

at george: absolutely correct. sometimes the bands we hold near and dear to our collective hearts, have to do a tour like that. it will expand their audience and give them some loot so they can continue to make the music we enjoy.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2009 5:40 PM

Walkmen aren't getting paid that much.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2009 5:54 PM

Hate KOL, but good move Walkmen. You'll pick up a ton of new fans out there.

Posted by Anonymous | February 10, 2009 5:58 PM

What's the Dave Matthews / Drug Rug thing all about?

Posted by Drugs Delaney | February 10, 2009 6:15 PM

"blah blah blah ticket prices are inflated blah blah CDs cost too much and the labels were greedy blah blah blah nothing you didn't know" *hit repeat*

americans are such pedantic juvenile fukwits ( who by the way pretentiously attach themselves to school up to prolonged laborious ages of 25, learn nothing of value, and know nothing about the world they live in ) who cant see class and mature genuine tallent like the kings even when it sits on your faces! Australia recognises and celebrates a great ROCK band when it sees one. The kings of leon are a truly great rock band! The soul, the spirit, the wrenching pain and the human plea for love that reveberates in the lead vocals is almost tantamount to a Pucini opera.

Posted by joe | February 11, 2009 3:02 PM

Thanks so much for posting those tour dates up! I appreciate it immensely. Drew

Posted by Drew Danburry | February 12, 2009 11:35 AM

It is unfortunate that most of America knows KOL from their latest album because it is their least substantive and creative. Take a listen to their second album (Aha Shake Heartbreak) and you will find some innovative song writing and delivery.

Posted by Loren | February 14, 2009 12:26 PM

hey KOL are good, mainly the first two cds. But if i go to the concert , i will mainly be there to see my favorite band that nobody really hears of THE WALKMEN. How & why they havent made it big is a question i want answered.
