Wavves @ Less Artists More Condos (more by Toby Tenenbaum)
Wavves

VICE: You've had a pretty intense amount of coverage on music blogs considering you've only been doing this since February. Do you think they picked up on it so quickly because you are a blogger yourself?

Maybe. The blogging thing just came about because I was working in this music store in San Diego called Music Trader. It was an awful place filled with racist jocks and douchebags and I just couldn't handle the 9 to 5 so I ended up quitting. The sparkle in my day while I was there had been these nice guys who would just come and in and talk rap records with me. Once I quit the job I suddenly had all this time on my hands and wanted to talk rap records but had no one to talk about them with so I started Ghost Ramp. I'd always listened to rap though because as a kid the two things my mum wouldn't let me listen to were West Coast G-funk and alternative guitar music so those were the two things I got heavily into.

I feel bad for this guy, all this hype just means more people will be exposed to shit music.

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2009 8:33 PM

CS>MH? I happen to _disagree_

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2009 8:40 PM

The excellent VAMPIRE HANDS from Minneapolis, MN will be opening the shows starting 3.22

Don't believe the hype or the haircut.

Posted by Anonymous | February 13, 2009 9:08 PM

is WAVVES the Bon Iver of '09?

Posted by paul | February 13, 2009 9:17 PM

if you really wanna know what it sounds like, blend the breeders "la la la" with a mixed in the red overdriven 4 track production and some stoner synth noodles.
it's all been done before, but kids in girls pants, buffalo plaid shirts, & boat shoes will be dumb founded...history repeats itself.

Hype? YUP.

I'm getting really tired of this kid quick. I've listened to the album. Am I missing something? It's hyper-hyped. Go buy a Sonic Youth record - fggt's. God Help Us.

"Do you ever get lonely playing on your own?"

He played the last couple NYC shows with a drummer.

Posted by solo | February 14, 2009 2:43 PM

I work at Music Trader in San Diego and this twerp Nathan was always the one making racist jokes. Like the lawnmower one. What a shitstain.

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2009 2:54 PM

Posted by Anonymous | February 14, 2009 8:42 PM

that picture makes him look like tom delonge with a tegan and sara cut

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2009 12:44 AM

each year as sxsw approaches, there has to be one blogtastic band that everyone wants to see. i suppose this year its Wavves. but, once all the nailbiters finally see him play, they'll walk away flacid. music has always been cyclical. this cycle is nothing more than stuff that was done in the 80/90's.

sorry Mr. Wavve - you've records are nothing more than a strong rip current that ripped me off financially. someone please call a lifeguard. i want my goddamn money back.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2009 10:50 AM

10:50 should write for According to Jim. He's that good.

Posted by Anonymous | February 15, 2009 12:20 PM

12:20 should write for Last Call with Carson Daly. He's that good.

His schedule of concerts is very tough, so it's no doubt that he missed 2 of them.
