Why do people ask for set times? Seriously. Do you ask the MTA what time the L train is coming when you walk into the subway? Just go to the damn show and you'll see the bands.

"anyone see trail of dead last night? how were they? that new album while far from the grace of source tags & codes, is a return to form."
I guess you can say the same about their live show. Not source tags and code era, but still pretty good.

"anyone know when grizz bear goes on tonight...heard they're the opener"
You're a fucking idiot. Obviously if you did some research and actually used something called a SEARCH ENGINE you would be able to find these sort of details out instead of wasting bandwith with asking your stupid lame questions. Now fuck off you faggot emo crybaby.

"George Bush is opening"
Sure beats Barack Obama opening!!
Posted by Anonymous | February 28, 2009 6:28 PM

grizzly bear
easier
central and remote (first time ever played! awesome)
new song 1
plans
(this parts totally out of order)
reworked orchestra version of campfire (boring!)
colorado
reprise
two weeks
while you wait for the others
little brother
plans
+2 other new ones
(encore)
deep blue sea
he hit me
all in all a letdown. no on a neck, on a spit, alligator (they already have a version made with an orchestra!!!!), shift, fix it, showcase, cheerleader, fine for now, KNIFE? orchestra wasn't even used for half the songs. the new songs were also pretty underwhelming, except for the last one before the encore. oh well. sounded pretty good, and final fantasy was amazing. im done seeing this band live.
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 12:03 AM
it's march, bitchez
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 12:10 AM
Grizzly Bear were awesome. All the new songs were great, especially the first one. They didn't play a lot of live staples, which I didn't mind at all. Seriously I've been hearing Knife for 4 years now. Instead we got a lot of songs they could never play live without the extra instrumentation. I look forward to seeing them tour behind the new album, as those songs were thrilling. And Ed's voice was out of this world.
Final Fantasy was really good too. I wasn't a big fan before, but I am now!
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 2:53 AM
grizzly bear were fucking IN FUCKING CREDIBLE
that was one of the best shows I've ever seen. EVER. Final Fantasy was lovely too. The new songs were bonkers bonkers. Esp the song they played 3rd.
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 3:24 AM
btw: anon @ 12:03 you must have some issues, other than a tuning issue for "while you wait for the others' this was a flawless amazing show.
HIghlights = first new song
Colorado
Two Weeks
Reprise
Campfire
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 3:25 AM
whenever anybody says anyting negative about grizzly bear it just makes me SOOO ANGRY!!!!
I mean seriously WHAT THE FUCK PEOPLE??
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 4:09 AM
I wonder if 12:30 was the dingleberry I was talking to at a house party that was clueless to the concept of sarcasm.
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 4:23 AM
grizzly bear was beautiful. final fantasy was pure music.
"while you wait" "campfire" "two weeks" were the f'n highlights.
"cn tower" !!!!
wow...i was lost in all of it.
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 4:40 AM
The whole evening was magical. Frankly I was suprised at how well it all came off, I was also surprised at how rabid the crowd was. Granted I'm a grizzly bear fan but the people around me were going ape shit. Loved it. Definitely sold and excited for the new album. Even the girlfriend dug it and it's totally not her bag.
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 9:14 AM
Yeah I saw George Bush peeking around the curtain during central and remote and he was definitely really into it
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 10:13 AM
So, did Grizzly Bear go on first or second?
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 11:23 AM
they went second, and it was a total letdown. they sounded great, but the song selection...cmon. theyve been playing basically the same set for the past 3 years.
no 'dont ask'?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? if not at the BAM show, then when? they just ignored so many great songs that would have been so great with the orchestra or as a FF collab, and were generally uninspired. the fact that they did a few songs without the orchestra was among the most puzzling and silly decisions ive ever seen a band make. it's like getting a new huge LCD flatscreen, and deciding to watch the game on your old 13 inch tv/vcr combo instead.
for people seeing GB the first time, tonite was probably magic, but for those of us who have seen them a few times in the past, this was the absolute letdown of the year. they left so much potential unfulfilled.
Posted by Music Fan | March 1, 2009 11:36 AM
They did the new songs without the orchestra arrangements. They're NEW songs. It was interesting to hear older songs reinterpreted - but as someone else mentioned, campfire was still pretty lulling..
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 11:46 AM
"They did the new songs without the orchestra arrangements. They're NEW songs."
you fool, they debuted 3 new songs, all with the orchestra. 2 weeks/while you wait weren't with the orchestra, so how is the fact that they're new a reason that they didn't play it with the orchestra? were you even there?
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 11:50 AM
Same set??? You are crazy, they played songs they've never played both old and new. Playing knife and on a neck on a spit would have been doing the same. For me it was a totally new inspired interpretation ---having seen them five time, this ranks high up there. New songs were mesmerizing
Posted by Fido | March 1, 2009 11:50 AM
I loved campfire, I for one don't like knife and prefer their weirder less "pop" tracks so this was perfect for me
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 12:10 PM
FF set?
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 12:14 PM
underwhelming. not interesting arrangements. who to blame? nico muhly? BAM for picking a band that doesn't know how to utilize an orchestra? the band for not spending enough time on it?
this is the sixth time i've seen grizzly bear and i should have been blown away by something special. i wasn't.
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 12:45 PM
>>the fact that they did a few songs without the orchestra was among the most puzzling and silly decisions ive ever seen a band make.
this is fairly common of bands that have play with orchestras .. the 2 other bands I've seen with orchestras did something similar.. I think it has something to do with how long the orchestras can play in one night... union rules, etc
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 12:58 PM
I liked the songs they did without the orchestra better actually.
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 1:27 PM
yeah - i agree that the orchestra didn't add anything. if anything, it removed the drama (the space) in the band's music and just middled everything.
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 1:31 PM
final fantasy was good...i wasn't too familiar with him before last night, but he and the orchestra created a lot of subtle textures. i thought it was great he used aaron dessner and bryan devendorf from the national for bass and drums, and nico for piano...but as final fantasy admitted, he's a control freak and it felt like there was a lot of tension up on stage with everyone (including aaron and bryan, two totally loose musicians) so focused on reading music. it was great to hear, but made my jaw clench a little. granted, it was his first time doing this...
grizzly bear were great for me. i think they did a nice job of using the orchestra without the orchestra taking over the sound. the new songs were highlights and i didn't want the set to end. adding aaron dessner on banjo and bryce dessner on guitar created an interesting dynamic for those two songs on which they played. the vocals sounded INCREDIBLE. but i will admit that when the orchestra weren't playing, they looked pretty bored.
Posted by Anonymous | March 1, 2009 2:07 PM
I don't think it's a coincidence that the people who were let down have seen GB several times. There aren't too many bands who can blow you away six times, even with an orchestra. It's kind of sad to become accustomed to such grandeur. But "Ready, Able" ripped all of that away. It was so intense. And their voices sounded so beautiful in that opera house.

went to this party in brooklyn- williamsburg/greenpoint area on kent avenue- last night. wondering if anyone else was there- it was underground and there was a live band playing whose name i forget and alot of dancing.. Could anyone help me out with the name of this band?

Posted by You're welcome | March 1, 2009 6:03 PM
all the dozens of twitters on the show were unanimous hyperbolic praise. I guess BrooklyVegan commenters are just angry bitter people???
I loved the whole evening. It's an orchestra show. It's different. Things change. Don't be scared of new things. They fucking owned and they had a massive standing ovation .
Me and the misses were pleased as punch. The old people in front of me fell asleep during Final Fantasy though which made me chuckle.

"who were let down have seen GB several times"
GB? GB is for Gorilla Biscuits. Sorry, but that abbreviation is taken.

Sounded like it was an amazingly shitty time, glad I stayed home and watched Rush Limbaugh clips from his speech at the GOP convention on Fox News instead!!
