All Points West

Following last year's inaugural event, festival producers began work immediately on resolving concerns expressed by fans in attendance. They have worked closely with their partners at NJ Transit to improve light-rail service and capacity. As an added value for 2009, festival goers who choose to travel to the site utilizing the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line can ride for free throughout the weekend with their ALL POINTS WEST festival ticket. Additionally, based on the popularity of the ferry as a mode of transportation from lower Manhattan to Liberty State Park, the frequency and size of the ferryboats will increase at a reduced price for festival attendees.... The producers have also worked with their partners at Liberty State Park to improve the fan experience in the beer gardens. This year's areas will be larger, have shorter lines, and feature shade tents, views of the stages and food concessions...
The second annual ALL POINTS WEST MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL returns to Liberty State Park in Jersey City, New Jersey Friday, July 31, Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2. Like last year, bands will play on three stages, except "the Queen of the Valley stage has been changed to a Coachella-like tent creating an environment that will showcase comedy, DJs, electronic acts and bands."

More details on the items above will be posted at the apwfestival.com. The entire lineup (it's good!) and ticket info, below...

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:04 AM

89 dollars for My Bloody Valentine? No thanks

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:05 AM

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:05 AM

nice

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:05 AM

Glad I was awake and at work already, I feel bad for those who woke up to see this mediocre lineup.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:06 AM

This is so sick.. Im there

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:06 AM

I think I'll pass. Again.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:07 AM

definitely buying a 3 day pass this year

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:07 AM

I'm guessing the people unhappy with this lineup would be unhappy with anything

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:08 AM

Ghostland Observatory + Crystal Castles + Arctic Monkeys + Gaslight Anthem + MSTRKRFT = FUCK YEAH

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:09 AM

anyone who reads this site and is unhappy with the lineup should really consider changing anti-depressants

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:10 AM

Wow. Headliners were expected (and not what I was hoping for) but that is a much deeper lineup than last year.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:12 AM

if it's set up like last year, you won't be able to see half of this crap since they overlap stuff so much.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:12 AM

It's not all my cup of tea but I do give them credit for diversifying the music from last year. Besides flying lotus will tear up friday.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:18 AM

all points weak.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:18 AM

Saturday is insanely beautiful.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:20 AM

.........
tool?

Posted by emily | March 30, 2009 7:24 AM

Coldplay?

Posted by Isfet | March 30, 2009 7:27 AM

I only care about the Friday lineup... and I won't be able to get out of work. Perfect.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:27 AM

Thats what sick days were invented for

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:28 AM

Friday royally sucks, except for Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:29 AM

college humor live... YEAH!

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:32 AM

C'mon - this line up is pretty great by any standard and a huuuge improvement over last year. Anyone here who doesn't like this lineup is reading the wrong blog....

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:35 AM

Where the eff are The Strokes?!?!

Posted by John | March 30, 2009 7:38 AM

Do that many people really listen to Tool?

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:43 AM

Pretty bad line-up hahahah even Reading/Leeds Festival headliners will be so much better....

1) Radiohead
2) Blink 182
3) Nine Inch Nails
4) Kaiser Chiefs
5) Arctic Monkeys
6) Kings of Leon

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:46 AM

Like last year there is never more then like 3 bands I want to see on any given day...so definitely not worth the price.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:47 AM

The line up is ten times better than I thought it would be.
Minus the headliners the festival is still amazing.
Fleet Foxes! Arctic Monkeys! Yeah Yeah Yeahs! MGMT!

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:49 AM

Is this Organized Konfusion's 1st reunion show?

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:50 AM

Echo and Elbow same day...nice

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:54 AM

This line up is AWESOME!

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:57 AM

i think i'm ready, willing, and able to go to all three days.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 7:57 AM

Oh boy its the same day Depeche Mode plays the Borgata in AC. Somewhat of a disappointment.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:01 AM

Audience of Pathetic Wusses

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:05 AM

Looks like a good lineup to me. Big bands, mid-level bands, developing bands. That's how a festival should be done.

Oh, and, 7:05, I would expect this to be the only tri-state date for FF and The National but please don't bother coming if you're just going to piss and moan the whole time. No one will want you there anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:07 AM

weren't Kitty a Korn girl group from the TRL-era 90s? they're apparently playing sunday. eek...

Posted by brian | March 30, 2009 8:21 AM

@brian...that's kittie, not kitty

Posted by Mike Cohen | March 30, 2009 8:30 AM

I can't see how many non-tri-state area people are going to make the trip for this. Last year the incentive was two Radiohead shows. Coming from someone who doesn't live in the tri-state area, this lineup doesn't do much for me. The only grabs at the top tier are YYYs (this year's "festival whores"), MBV (both who I'll see at Coachella) and Echo while the rest of the lineup has toured itself dry over the past year (Coldplay, Vampire, National, MGMT, Gogol Bordello, Ra Ra Riot, We Are Scientists.) I'm just not into the Beasties, Tool or Coldplay (who has basically been playing every city in the US since last year.) A few other interesting NYC bands here, but nobody I'd want to make the trip out to see and can wait for when they come around to my area. If I lived closer, I might consider a day or two.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:33 AM

Friday is a pretty easy yes, though it's going to be hard to see all those subheadliners at the same time. Saturday leans towards yes, though I've seen my favorites there more recently. Sunday is an easy no after the first two days and a prior investment in MGMT at Celebrate Brooklyn.

So, if not here, where is Sonic Youth playing this Summer? I suppose the YYYs won't be at Williamsburg Waterfront, then?

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:38 AM

@8:33 - there is no band called "Kitty" playing APW - it's Kitty, Daisy & Lewis, one of Coldplay's tour openers

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:40 AM

Sonic Youth will probably be touring mostly Europe in the summer (maybe a few US dates here and there when the album drops) because Thurston and Kim like to get the hard dates out of the way before Coco goes back to school in the fall.

Posted by Travis | March 30, 2009 8:41 AM

boo.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:43 AM

It's not earth-shattering, but still a far superior lineup to last year's. Echo, MGMT, Silversun & Mogwai on the same day will be sick. This, followed by back-to-back Depeche gigs @ MSG? Summer sounds petty rockin' so far.

Posted by maitai | March 30, 2009 8:43 AM

Obviously, the headliners are selected more for their ability to sell tickets to the masses than for their indie cred or currency. And obviously APW, set in an 18-million-person metropolitan area rather than a desert, is seeking an audience primarily of locals.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:46 AM

8:33,

Really? You'd rather go see an MGMT show? They are TERRIBLE live.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:49 AM

I'll only go see MGMT if it is the same backing band(cd player) they played with at North Six in the Summer of 2005. fml.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:52 AM

I can't see how many non-tri-state area people are going to make the trip for this -

Yeah because the the 7 million people in NYC aren't enough?

minus yourself of course..so 6,999,999 and the 30 whiners who have complained here...for 6,999,960. I think that is a pretty good pool for the festival.

Posted by Bob Roberts | March 30, 2009 8:53 AM

this show is going to do great. Im in for all 3 days

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:56 AM

KOOL KEITH!
I don't think I will be attending but I am very happy to see this man's name on the bill.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:04 AM

Sunday has a bunch of nice smaller bands for kids who are worried about being cool, and the set times will probably allow them to leave without having to hear any of Coldplay, who are making the whole thing, including Echo and the Bunnymen, possible. However, MGMT - who I've seen before, thanks - is the only band on the Sunday bill that I like more than casually, and I'll pay to see them live when the money supports Celebrate Brooklyn. If I had not already, I might go for the 3-day pass, but the money's probably the same when fees are factored in.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:04 AM

@ 8:53am

That's cool, but when a tsunami eventually wipes that part of the country out, then WHO WILL APW DEPEND ON?!?!

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:08 AM

so who won the contest?

Posted by wembley | March 30, 2009 9:08 AM

The Depeche Borgata conflict aside this is about perfect for what it is, and considering this fiscal environment actually pretty amazing, whiners be damned.

Posted by B | March 30, 2009 9:09 AM

I read the exclamation point after "KOOL KEITH" as a comma at first

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:09 AM

Sonic Youth should be added to this line-up for real, I mean come on they have a new album coming out. Unless they have some other big show lined up and the money didnt make sense. Maybe one of the park shows.

Anyway I think this is a tremendous line-up for the mainstream/indie mix, I think their main problem will be overcrowding.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:15 AM

The most disappointing part of the lineup, after last year's (low-budget-driven?) Amadou and Mariam, etc., is that the closest they get to "world music" this year is Gogol Bordello. I suppose such bands are better-suited to the free festivals.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:18 AM

Sonic Youth are usually big on the European festival circuit when they have a new album because they don't like being overseas when Thurston/Kim's daughter is back in school. They'll probably line up a tour towards the end of summer or early fall, but my guess is they'll do some major city shows before then too.

Posted by tom | March 30, 2009 9:21 AM

All crap, except MBV, of course.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:25 AM

That Friday lineup is sweet! A few good things on Saturday and Sunday, but Friday rules.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:26 AM

I dont think Organized Konfusion has played in over 10 years

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:28 AM

1) Radiohead
2) Blink 182
3) Nine Inch Nails
4) Kaiser Chiefs
5) Arctic Monkeys
6) Kings of Leon

to British dude (I'm guessing) This is not a good line-up. Many people hate 4 of the 6 bands u you listed, and I think top 6 here is better than what you listed. Unless you're the type of person for whom Radiohead trumps all comers.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:28 AM

Is this April fools day? THis line-up is just too good...

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:35 AM

Yeah. The festival just took a crap on all the people who said there wouldnt be a second year.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:36 AM

Wow, I totally lost the game on guessing the artist. This is so much fucking better than I expected.

Saturday, fuck yes. Friday, maybe.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:43 AM

Ahhhh I love when you people complain on here but I have to get on this bandwagon this time....

1) Beastie Boys?! They're playing Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza (I believe)....book someone different!

2) Tool...I think in the same boat

3) MBV...playing Coachella this year and played Roseland twice last year....nothing special

4) YYYs...playing every festial possible (This year's Jack Johnson!)

5) Coldplay...haven't people been over this band since Parachutes or A Rush of Blood to the Head

I think with the reputation that Goldenvoice has, they could have booked like: Neil Young, Aphex Twin, Bjork, Tom Waits (since the guy in charge of booking Goldenvoice festivals used to be his manager for over 20 years!), Basement Jaxx, Jarvis Cocker, The Strokes, Interpol, Wilco, Broken Social Scene, Doom, Blackstar, Beirut, Sonic Youth, Spoon, Muse, Bright Eyes, etc etc...

Very dissapointed with this line-up...

Posted by Jonny Greenwood is the man | March 30, 2009 9:46 AM

This is great, Saturday will be like my own private Tool concert because 99% of the people who will go to this on saturday won't give a shit about seeing them. I win.

Posted by Funderburgh | March 30, 2009 9:47 AM

no thankyou

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:51 AM

I hope Tool and MBV are playing on the same stage. That would be a pretty sweet 1-2 punch!

Posted by wembley | March 30, 2009 9:57 AM

at least jack johnson isn't on there...i'm def going sat to see tool, as i've never seen them b4. Bboys suck live, anyway who have seen them in concert can vouch for it.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:57 AM

9:47 I guarantee you half the people on Sat. will be there exclusively for Tool. This will be good for those of use who want to see other bands, for getting close to the mainstage, not so good...

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:57 AM

You know, it's a big country and not everyone has the means to travel to every music festival that goes on. It's silly to complain about the fact that some of these bands are also playing Coachella and/or Bonnaroo. For one, I am happy that there is now a viable music festival right in my back yard.

This is going to be awesome. Complainers stay home. More for me.

Posted by maitai | March 30, 2009 9:58 AM

@9:46am

I wrote similar stuff above so I'm with you on what you wrote. The lineup has some okay acts, but a lot of them I can just wait to see when they eventually come around by themselves. Then again, there's a ton of bands I've already seen in the past year on there, as well. The headliners aren't very exclusive. In a nutshell, it's nothing to write home about.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:59 AM

i think the problem is that everyone is spoiled from seeing all their indie bands they like all the time that any festival lineup will be a disappointment. this is why i've never attended a festival (b/c i've already seen all the indie bands i'd want to see)...however i think i will be attending bonnaroo this year just for the 'experience.'

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:01 AM

"3) MBV...playing Coachella this year and played Roseland twice last year....nothing special"

ANY show by MBV is special.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:02 AM

wow terrible

Posted by Carl | March 30, 2009 10:04 AM

hum Im just wondering if they will have double headliners playing at the same time or if they will have just one headliner. It would sort of make sense to split the crowds and make people decide between Beastie Boys vs YYY, or MBV vs Tool. The main stage area is just too small in my opinion to hold more than 20or 30 thousand people, if its set up like it was last year.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:06 AM

Isn't this remarkably bigger than last year? If the tix were half the price, this would be epic win you guyz

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:07 AM

i do appreciate that there's no 1 clear day that everybody/nobody will be going (like last year)

Posted by sarahspy | March 30, 2009 10:07 AM

finally...some top hip-hop at a fest like this

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:08 AM

Am i the only person who thinks mbv sucks live? This is an over-priced douchefest -- an overpriced douchefest without Radiohead for that matter..

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:10 AM

no jack johnson? :(

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:13 AM

Zzzz.... Another year, another mediocre line-up. APW can't get any "wow" acts like almost every other major musical festival (on both sides of the pond). There's no big draw here. It's just an extended indie rock show you can see any day at shit venues like Terminal 5 or Webster Hall (plus Coldplay).

LAME!

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:19 AM

"finally...some top hip-hop at a fest like this"

the roots played last year

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:19 AM

>>so who won the contest?

The person who won the contest should throw the tickets back to BV.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:22 AM

"YYYs...playing every festial possible (This year's Jack Johnson!)"

Dumbest statement of the day???

Jack Johnson sucks to begin with! YYYs are a band that appeal to most people who read BV and I def wouldn't mind seeing them more than once this summer in a festival atmosphere.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:22 AM

Etienne De Crecy?! with cube in tow i hope.

Posted by djc | March 30, 2009 10:23 AM

10:19 I think this is way better than both coachella and Bonnaroo. And Ting TIngs pulled out of Bonnaroo. I would rather see Tool than Springsteen, and MBV over Phish. Now lets just wait and see what Lollapalooza can come up with to match this.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:29 AM

Day 2 is alright, but not worth the price

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:29 AM

Id just add nothing beats Bonnaroo for atmosphere, no matter who is playing. The early curfew and police state atmosphere (getting searched for drugs and alcohol on the gates) at last years fest was def a drawback.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:32 AM

10:29 - better than bonnaroo? have you actually looked at the bonnaroo lineup? put aside bruce and phish, there's still, david byrne, elvis costello, beasties, nine inch nails, wilco, yeah yeah yeahs, tvotr, and a million other bands. it's not even close.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:35 AM

Last year this was an overpriced mess that luckily for them had Radiohead. This year's pathetic lineup and the ticket price = an official no go.

Posted by BTW | March 30, 2009 10:38 AM

ewwwwwwwwww

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:44 AM

if this were a lot cheaper i'd go... but no

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:49 AM

"the roots played last year"

one band. oh yeah, kanaan.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:49 AM

i knew we are scientists were going to play
but ahhh this line up is way nasty..cannot wait! it was a blast last year!

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:49 AM

Yeah I looked at Bonnaroo lineup. Dont get me wrong I love Bonnaroo experience, went there in 2006, nothing beats listening to music from 12 noon to 4 am and then crashing in a tent.
BB's and YYY's are playing both fests so thats a push. And I'm still gonna cross my fingers for some additions (Sonic Youth, please god)

On the other hande yeah but here we have APW exlusive:Crystal Castles, Akron Family, and Telepathe (and Ting Tings).

Holy shit, I hope Telepathe have been practicing their instruments/stage show presence or this could get ugly.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:49 AM

crystal castles is at bonnaroo (so is ting tings),

APW lineup fucking sucks/

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:57 AM

sasquatch still wins the festival of the summer.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:03 AM

Ting Tings are not at Bonnaroo - they pulled out. Bonnaroo is also a Southern festival, not a Northeast Corridor one - it's almost 900 miles from New York, only a little bit more than the distance to Chicago, and a major investment of time (vacation for those who work) and money that a lot of people don't have. Some people can't attend for more obscure reasons as well - for me, it happens to happen the same weekend as my Mom's birthday every year. And Bonnaroo, while an especially interesting festival, is there in part to serve people who don't live in a giant metro where everyone comes around anyway like NYC.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:07 AM

On principal, nobody should attend Friday in protest to Telepathe being on the bill. Somebody please destroy this group.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:07 AM

make that principle, not principal, but the principal should put a stop to that shitty shit Telepathe.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:09 AM

All Points Weak.

Again.

Middle of the road and expected - Sasquatch and Coachella are much better festivals, and dont pull that this is a smaller festival bullshit. Let's just see them keep attendance caps where they had them - They won't.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:10 AM

@10:29am

I'm sorry, but APW is still kid's play and reads like a beginner's manual to festivals compared to Coachella and Bonnaroo. APW has most of the same bands as those two and probably Lollapalooza's too, and barely any of their interesting ones to bat. The lineup is filled with bands we've all probably seen recently or just are sick of seeing playing.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:10 AM

Doesn't MGMT have to play a frat party somewhere else that day?

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:11 AM

hahaha

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:19 AM

Monday, I've got Friday (July 31st) on my mind.

Posted by drewo | March 30, 2009 11:20 AM

nice to see so many solid rap artists on the bill.

Posted by JD | March 30, 2009 11:24 AM

Most of these bands are always on tour anyway so this isn't exciting. I don't think most of their sound will be able to carry out in such a big venue, either.

So tired of these lame indie bands, ugh.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:26 AM

Can we have a do-over on this line-up?

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:26 AM

OK---

safe to say this line up is a STEP in the right direction from last year, but in a way, that's the problem...

The lineup is good I guess, but basically is a smaller, inferior version of EVERY OTHER FESTIVAL around. So if they are making this a destination festival - they failed... big time.

If they are appealing just to NYC, well they have it half right - the location is good, but seriously most I know would rather do Roo, Coach or Lolla for the cash spent during a festival. Sure you don't have the hotel expensive if you live here, but then again if you live here, you are seeing 95% of these bands on the regular in nice sized clubs.

They have some nice gets this year (Echo and Elbow) but seriously most of the line up is a bunch of also-rans.

Tool, BBs (lame) and Coldplay (yawn) will bring their fans in I'm sure - so it won't be a bust, but real music diehards will find better festival choices elsewhere. Ones with more surprises, better lineups, better weather. Choose wisely.

I have spoken.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:28 AM

>>10:29

you are a crackhead.

NO FUCKING way this is better than Coachella.

Paul McCartney cancels this entire festival on his own. Let alone Paul Weller and Leonard Cohen! And that's just 3 acts out of 130!

It's ok. LIke the Sunday lineup better. Speaking of, I rented the "US Festival '83 Opening Day" video on Netflix over the weekend.

INXS, Missing Persons, U2, The Clash, Bowie, English Beat, Pretenders and more...

Now, that was a real lineup!!

Y'all are a bunch of spoiled, entitled, whiney bitches. Seriously. It's not as good as ___, it's going to be full of ___, I'd rather see ____,...ad nauseum. Really? Shut the fuck up already.

You know why this is better than Bonnaroo, Coachella and Lollapalooza? Because it's not in fucking Tennessee, California or Chicago. It's in my back yard, and I can take public transport to get there.

O'Doyle rules.

All you fucking people do is bitch and moan about EVERYTHING! Seriously. Grow the fuck up! So what is Bonnaroo and Coachella are bigger festivals. We know that. APW knows that. Go to those festivals and then bitch about god knows what when you get there. I am so sick of all the whining and crying about everything. Shut the fuck up and start your own festival if you think your opinons are gold. I for one am looking forward to seeing The National, Fleet Foxes, Ra Ra Riot etc. Even Tool. So what if these bands play a lot in the area! Obviously they do! It's NYC! If that is a problem, move to Montana. It's going to be great time and an even better time without you faggots there. Stay home and cry. Douchebags.

Saturday, August 1: Tool, Gogol Bordello, The Cool Kids,Tim & Eric, Judah Friedlander

Sunday, August 2: MGMT, Steel Train, Michael Showalter and Todd Barry.

my list...definitely not worth it ha but im sure the other good stuff will get added ha (probably not)

this is a lame lineup. nyc is supposed to be the mecca for new breakthrough eclectic music and all they can come up with is a bunch of worn out urban outfitters playlist bands? i can see all these bands playing anywhere at anytime aside from maybe mbv and echo & the bunnymen. to top it off, i'd probably have a better time and see better bands at pitchfork all the while spending just as much even though it's in chicago.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 1:16 PM

Sounds good to me. And I live just a short light-rail ride away, so it's about as close to me as a concert can get. (They really need a shuttle bus from the light rail to the festival site, though.)

If I can get in on the $199 three-day pass, I will do it. Seriously funny though, how the whole concept for APW was thrown out the window when they saw it fail last year (and dont get me wrong...I was there all 3 days and had a good time).

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 3:07 PM

Not hating, but really...are there any real surprises here that you wouldn't see at any other Festival? Just an observation not a condemnation.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 3:10 PM

I wasn't looking for surprises. I was looking for a fun lineup to go check out on a summer weekend day with my friends. I will do just that.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 3:19 PM

Perhaps Friday as it seems to be the least shitty.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 3:23 PM

I have to say that this lineup is quite whack. Friday is just a basic festival show. whatever. Saturday has Tool and MBV, but other than that, blah...and Sunday straight up sucks! If Tool come around and do some other arena, I'll skip out on all three days....which I didn't want to do, but this just isn't worth the money.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 3:29 PM

Telepathe's live show has gotten much better in the past year, I think people will be surprised. BV commenters are always hating!

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 3:45 PM

Yep. Friday for me too. Gut reaction, as it seems is the case with many here, is that while there are some pretty good acts scattered about, the headliners aren't quite pulling their weight. I just think it's tough to beat the back to back Radiohead shows last year, but regardless there's enough decent music each day to have a good time outside.

Posted by J | March 30, 2009 3:47 PM

After Radiohead,What a shock to the system they got
Coldplame.

NIN/JA would have been bazillion times better headliners then Coldplame.

Cage the Elephant is pretty kool. But no reason to drag my ass to Jersey for this at those prices.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 4:30 PM

I am going to Pitchfork....but I do like the VIP passes at all points lame fest...not

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 4:35 PM

Yeah friday for me too, it's the most consistent and this is a great step then last years, not the best, but still better.

Posted by Slob | March 30, 2009 4:35 PM

Everyone complaining about complainers hating on this is either 1) in denial that this lineup is weak or 2) hasn't stepped outside their 1 bedroom studio apartment for the past year, since most of these bands have been touring relentlesly right outside their doors.

Posted by Duane Gill | March 30, 2009 4:35 PM

whats with APW and them have good music the first 2 days of their fest and then just having a shit fest on the third day?

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 4:47 PM

People have to understand that APW is not competing with Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, or Coachella for the greatest American festival. The festival is half the size of the 3 I just named. Last year Friday and Saturday were just Radiohead shows with better openers, I mean that is why I went. But, this year's lineup is much more well rounded and better top to bottom, we all know Coldplay is only there so that APW can sell tickets on Sunday, but hey I'd rather have Coldplay over Jack Johnson any day

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 4:49 PM

@4:47, just going by cardinal ranking of how the bands are listed, I guess you think that Crystal Castles are better than Mogwai?

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 5:16 PM

Can someone explain to me why the hell people are listing the bands the want to see as if any one actually gives a fuck?

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 5:30 PM

Anon 5:30: best comment I've seen in a long time.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 5:44 PM

should be two days only!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 5:51 PM

fuck all of you

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 5:52 PM

They could've announced the Smiths, Roxy Music, Minor Threat & Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith resurrected from the dead as the headliners, and hipsters would still complain about the lineup.

Disaffection: the totally predictable & generic way that hipsters prove that they're all uniquely part of the same social fraternity.

Thank god you over-sized glasses and bad-porno-mustachioed losers don't want to go to this. Maybe I can actually enjoy myself at a show for a change.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 5:52 PM

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:11 PM

all points MEHst

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:29 PM

alright, let's clarify something.

the angst on this board has nothing to do with disaffected hipsters being needlessly contrary. it DOES have something to do with the fact that two headliners are bands that were overrated in the early 90's and have only gotten worse, while another headliner is coldplay. and that almost none of new york's incredible indie music scene is showing up. grizzly bear, animal collective, tv on the radio and beirut are playing the other us festivals... where the fuck are they?

not that last year was a great festival - it was a shit festival. but it WAS two nights of the best band in the world with a few great openers.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:42 PM

Fact: Coldplay is the best band playing the whole festival.
Hands fucking down.
You're all assholes as well.
Lick my dick, all of you.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:51 PM

my dick stinks

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 8:53 PM

Grizzly Bear and Animal Collective played last year and you are saying last year was shit.

So how can you complain about this year and say they should have bands from last year which you still dump on?

Clearly no festival lineup will make you happy so instead of posting on here, go spend some time reflecting on what mommy and daddy did that left you so lacking in life.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:07 PM

An Organized Konfusion reunion
HipHop Heads rejoice

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 9:11 PM

9:07 - AC and griz were the great openers. almost everyone else was shit.

and actually, the bonnaroo lineup would make me very very happy if only i could go. SO please calm all the way down.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:07 PM

Coldplays the only headliner that can actually move tickets. Did the promoters actually think the average tool or beastie boys fan cares about any other band playing the festival?

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 10:22 PM

I don't think 10:22 realizes how huge Tool is.

Posted by wembley | March 30, 2009 10:38 PM

"Only good thing about this lineup is that MBV might play nearby as part of a tour or something."

They are contractually obligated to NOT play any local shows, so your logic is completely WRONG. Usually the time span is three months before and after the concert. So all the bands you see listed? Not playing a smaller venue in NYC anytime soon.

The only way around this rule in some contracts is if the band uses a different name or the original concert sells out.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:16 PM

"The festival is half the size of the 3 I just named."

Yeah, but APW costs MORE than every other festival. So we pay more and get less?

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:18 PM

"Thank god you over-sized glasses and bad-porno-mustachioed losers don't want to go to this. Maybe I can actually enjoy myself at a show for a change."

Yes, have fun with the sixteen-year-old pot smokers in cargo shorts and t-shirts of the band that is playing on stage. Way more fun that way, bro.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:18 PM

Also, can we shut the fuck up about "hipsters"? You are posting on BrooklynVegan.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:20 PM

I agree with Anon 8:42. This festival should only include NY indie bands. My oh my...wouldn't *that* be thrilling.

Posted by Anonymous | March 30, 2009 11:47 PM

akron/family are so good live. not worth APW though. everyone should have went to the castle clinton show in the summer.

Posted by Anonymous | March 31, 2009 2:21 AM

@11:18

It depends what you mean by "less." If you mean less bands, then yes, you do. If you mean less bands who are playing the same length of time as they do at other festivals, than no. APW has less bands because they all player longer sets, so it's like you're getting the full experience of most bands on the bill.

Posted by Anonymous | March 31, 2009 8:41 AM

I think some of you people have no idea what a "hipster" is. I guarantee you hipsters have better things to do than complain on BV comments section. So please, just stop.

Period.

I dont think it is weak at all. I think people have unrealistic expectations. Most of these bands cost $30-$40 see on their own at a show in NYC. If you add up the value of each day, its a ridiculous value.

totally agree w that. it's embarrassing how overrated they are...

Posted by Anonymous | April 2, 2009 1:28 PM

Oh look at me

I'm like SOOOOOoooooo non-conformist that I'm going to insult Coldplay.

Posted by Anonymous | April 3, 2009 12:22 PM

1:21,

Echo & The Bunneymen couldn't even fill Radio City Music Hall which means they're not really ideal material for headlining a festival that wishes to sell 30,000 tickets.
