Alpha Media Group closed Blender magazine today, eliminating about 30 jobs and reducing its portfolio of titles to Maxim alone. The April issue of Blender out now will be its last.

The decision, delivered to Blender staff in a meeting this morning, came as part of broader changes that also included the departure of Alpha co-CEO Glenn Rosenbloom and the integration of editorial staff for Maxim and Maxim Digital.

The remaining CEO, Stephen Duggan, said in a company memo that the company was closing Blender with great sadness. "Since 2001, Blender has provided unmatched music coverage and entertainment news in its unique voice to a profoundly dedicated audience of music enthusiasts," Mr. Duggan wrote. "We are particularly grateful to the sales team and to the tremendously talented editorial staff for their hard work and commitment to Blender." [Advertising Age]

Gramercy Theater is also getting its original name back.

Damn..I just started getting a free subscription to this last month :(

I mean it's sad to see it die, but they fucking sucked. I bought that issue on the flight home from SXSW and finished it before take off , total fluff

Sad to see peeps lose their jobs but I agree that the magazine was a waste of paper.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 12:50 PM

^^ agreed

"unmatched music coverage " ???

ummm, yeah...

Posted by scott | March 26, 2009 12:57 PM

I knew something was up. The last few issues were about 40 pages each. They were about a third as thick as they used to be.

Posted by Kurt C. | March 26, 2009 12:58 PM

It was about time... the content was lacking sooo much. I went thru their latest issue in 20 mins.
R.I.P. indeed

Reek In Perfume (ads). Show biz drivel, Rolling Stone next please!

Posted by schlep | March 26, 2009 1:18 PM

i usually run through paste magazine in about 5 minutes.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 1:19 PM

@ schlep

And why in the hell would you want Rolling Stone to fold?

Posted by spoon man | March 26, 2009 1:22 PM

in re: to 1:19, yeah Paste is almost LESS content, masked in the guise of "intelligent music journalist" rep

How many times do I need to read about Neko case???

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 1:30 PM

wow that was actually one of the best and unique pop culture+ music publications we have. how sad

Posted by a | March 26, 2009 1:43 PM

there's a magazine called Blender?

Posted by Sacred Absolute Hipster Cow | March 26, 2009 1:45 PM

hilarious, "Since 2001, Blender has provided unmatched music coverage" does not equal Kelly Clarkson, U2, and Jason Mraz on the cover. This was corporate music being promoted my corporate hacks.

RIP, go-away, what ever, this just means less noise for the rest of us.

I love you all.

It was a fun little mag there for a while. I liked when they used to show celebrities music collections, stuff like that. And how they'd have quoted lyrics in tiny print at the bottom of all the pages.

Posted by bill p | March 26, 2009 1:52 PM

the article about ron asheton was good, but magazine was mostly filler.

Posted by donn | March 26, 2009 1:56 PM

Good Riddance!

Worst publication ever...Paste is also quite terrible...

Fader and Death+Taxes are the only good ones...in my opinion

Posted by Brussel Sprout | March 26, 2009 2:09 PM

How will I find out which hottie won the title of Queen of Spring Break????

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 2:19 PM

any music mag folding is bad news for bands.

and for labels, clubs, publicists, promoters...

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 2:24 PM

Good riddance. That's what you get when you cover terrible, terrible music and put "artists" like Kelly Clarkson on your cover.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 2:37 PM

I liked Blender. It was fun. It's a shame to see it go.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 2:39 PM

Anybody who says good riddance to a music magazine is either stupid or short sighted. I did not care much for the articles, but the review section was worth reading because they mostly hired good outside critics.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 3:08 PM

shit magazine anyway.
hardly a loss.
and i'm not even trying to be an idiot.
Blender was NOT that great a music mag.

most great music mags are british. or unpopular shit like Skyscraper.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 3:20 PM

what? the Fader? are you fucking joking me?

that "magazine" is 100% advertisement. nothing but pure saccharine content.

just extremely awful.

The only magazine worth its paper is fucking Thrasher magazine.

Can NYLON go next?

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 3:53 PM

All else is utter sheyate.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 4:27 PM

under the radar is great

I hope they don't go out of business

paste sucks badly.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 5:01 PM

Anything on paper is in trouble..

except for my shit.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 5:16 PM

mojo is usually a pretty decent read.

Posted by scott | March 26, 2009 5:48 PM

blender fucking sucked

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 5:56 PM

NME is solid... too gaga over up-and-coming UK bands, but their enthusiasm bleeds through the pages.

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 5:58 PM

will people with subscriptions get any money back?

Posted by Anonymous | March 26, 2009 8:49 PM

Called the magazine and no one there knows squat, the woman who answered the phone there says I will get a May issue, it's just late!!LOL!!!!!! What are they going to replace it with, for those with paid subscriptions?? All the company has left is MAXIM, and sorry, but as a woman, I'm not interested!!

Posted by Rockinmom | April 24, 2009 4:10 PM

You are screwed

Posted by Anonymous | April 24, 2009 4:21 PM

People actually paid for this? I got a free subscription when I ordered tix to the Blender theater. I ended up throwing the mag away, not worth the glossy paper it was printed on.
