« Pogues cancelled 1 NYC show, announced openers for other the other two, Lucero included | Patrick Watson releasing Wooden Arms - here's the first MP3 »

"Rehab is shutting it's gates until it gets a new investor sorted. When & how it will reopen is anyones guess...there are many different scenarios, so for now thanks for the memories and if anything different arises we'll let you know. The DMZ show 3/21 has been moved to Southpaw."It looks like the last show there was Saturday night (2/28). Antagonista and 18 Wheels Burning were on the bill and that was followed by a Midnight Junior Lion Record Release Reggae Party.
Rehab (25 Avenue B - Between 2nd and 3rd st) lasted less than a year. Before that it was Midway. Before that it was Scenic. Before that it was Guernica and Save The Robots (and did I miss one?).
In other news, Knitting Factory is temporarily re-opening its Tribeca location and Sound Fix closed its lounge.

always sucks when a place closes, seemed like these guys were trying to put good things together from time to time, if not always succeeding.

It used to be Scenic

Whoops, sorry, missed the mention of scenic

In small places such as this, it seems to be getting increasingly more difficult to get people to come out and see bands they have not heard of before. Rarely do people go blindly to gigs without have some impetus of "hype" driving them.

this place was always packed when I was there. must be greedy landlords. i think the lesson is buy the building where you think of setting up your club, they you will be riding the gravy train.

Played there when it was called Midway and it was an okay experience...dealing with the club was always pleasant, although it was totally disorganized. They never told us that the rest of the night's bands had been moved to a different night so we were the only band to play that night...makes for a weak show, but we didn't have to split up any money...
had a show booked at rehab recently and it got cancelled last minute citing "legal issues."
It was a really good space run by cool people
Hope something good comes out of this and that the next incarnation lasts a bit longer. This is one of the last small clubs around and it is a sad day for local independent music.

this club was lame. glad it's gone. it tried to be all things to everyone and every demographic. did not belong in the east village.

I don't remember much from Save the Robots, but I do remember doing what you mentioned.
Also, speaking of Seal, I remember seeing him there once.

Was it not X-Robots between Save the Robots and Guernica?

The name kept changing, but ownership didn't change (not the last couple of name changes anyway). The guys who own it aren't interested in running the place. They should stop screwing around and sell it to someone who knows how to run a business.
It's a prime location, so why were other bars in the area packed at 1am on a Thursday when this place was empty? I know a few cats that put out bids on the spot. I hope it ends up in good hands and reopens with NEW owners who are business savy and devoted to the live entertainment scene.
