Dirty Projectors on March 19th @ SXSW (more by Jacob Blickenstaff)
Dirty Projectors

Bjork and Dirty Projectors have scheduled a teeny tiny show (300 capacity!) to benefit Housing Works on Friday, May 8th, at 8PM at Housing Works Bookstore & Café (126 Crosby Street) in Manhattan. After 4/1, "physical tickets will be available at the Housing Works bookstore on Crosby Street as well as a couple Brooklyn locations TBA", but a limited number of tickets are available online NOW. Go-go-go-go-go!

BjorkIn addition to the show being super special... the performances in particular will be pretty special as well:

In a brand new collaboration, Björk will perform music composed for her by David Longstreth. The suite, written for five voices, will pair Björk with Longstreth and Projectors' Amber Coffman, Angel Deradoorian, and Haley Dekle. The band will also perform material from Dirty Projectors' oeuvre, using only voices and one acoustic guitar. There will be two openers, Kurt Weisman chosen by Longstreth and Ólöf Arnalds chosen by Björk. -[Stereogum]
Housing Works is a great cause, and you can't f'n beat a pairing as special as THAT in a venue of that size.
Housing Works is committed to ending the twin crises of AIDS and homelessness. We believe that all people have the right to a rich and empowering life. Since 1990, we have provided the highest quality services for homeless men, women, and children living with HIV and AIDS in New York City and beyond. -[HousingWorks]
The show is being organized by Brandon Stosuy of Pitchfork/Stereogum fame... yes, the same guy responsible for booking Krieg and the upcoming Genghis Tron / Tombs / Black Anvil / Wetnurse show on April 12th at Public Assembly. Hey, even us metal guys can't be extreeeeeeme all the time!

David Longstreth will also perform a piece with the Bang on a Can All-Stars on April 2nd. Dirty Projectors recently played SXSW and have been added to the TV On The Radio tour (including Summerstage on June 5). Check out updated tour dates below.

The band has also lined up an appearance at the Dark Was The Night show at Radio City on May 3rd with Feist, The National, My Brightest Diamond, Dave Sitek (of TVOTR), Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings and recent addition Bon Iver. Tickets are still available. Dirty Projectors collaborated with David Byrne on the Dark Was the Night CD.

Dirty Projectors have a new single coming on April 21st and vocalist Angel Deradoorian has a new solo EP out May 5th on Lovepump United. She is playing a CD release show at Cake Shop the same day.

if this was a real bjork show I would have just bought a ticket, but it sounds like she isn't really the main act. I picture five songs at the most all played with some other folks. still cool, but not 100 dollars cool.

dave longstreth has the voice of a bleating goat. if someone put a muzzle on him and let the girls with the pretty voices sing what he writes, they would be a great band.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2009 12:26 AM

i dont have money for rent.

so this isn't going to happen

fuck you yuppies

Luckily Bjork and David Byrne don't agree with you

Even though I do enjoy the Dirty Projectors, this is very true about sounding like a bleating goat. Good call.

I hear the show takes place in a dumpster. In a motherfucking dumpster.

Posted by j | March 27, 2009 1:51 AM

he can write great music. just look at his dark was the night track. but seriously, his voice and watching him in videos just gives me shivers, in the worst way possible. its like he's possessed. really ugly guy i guess, pretty terrible voice too.

Will the tickets on 4/1 (april fools joke?!) be the $100 ones, too?

Posted by Cuse | March 27, 2009 4:43 AM

Amen! It takes place where people have sold there soul for a contrived, self important art scene.
Waste of money. The economy is fine for the trusties.

It's a fucking benefit for homeless people. Let's have some perspective here.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2009 7:23 AM

Anyone who talks trash on the prices for a benefit show should be punished severely! You snarky, arrogant creeps!

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2009 8:38 AM

I agree. Who complains about the price of a benefit concert?!? Inconsiderate assholes.

I bet the same people that complain about the price also download albums for free.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2009 9:35 AM

am curious, are these tickets tax deductible since it is a benefit show? (I cannot afford to go, but am curious anyway for future reference).

Housing works is a great bookstore and organization. They help people with AIDS and they have good taste in books/music. And, good coffee and used records. Any haters have never been inside a housing works because they live in Montana. Nothing against Montana. Just hold the hate until you've been here.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2009 10:31 AM

The dave piece at bang on a can was cancelled. Kinds pissed. Sorta why I got the $30 3rd row tix

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2009 10:46 AM

im guessing tickets are not tax deductible. it is a good or service that you got in return for donation. same thing like when they have the pbs pledge drive, the value of goods that are the incentive are not tax deductible.

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2009 12:27 PM

10:46 where'd you hear that? that fucking sucks, i got tickets for that too!

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2009 12:35 PM

there is rumor going around that this will be recorded for a live album/release

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2009 12:45 PM

angel's solo stuff is really good

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2009 12:51 PM

12:26,12:48, and 2:48-
you people are fucking cruel, blood sucking mother fuckers. your lives must really suck, and you must really hate yourselves to be saying such mean-spirited, stupid shit. dave is an amazing human. he's beautiful, and his voice is gorgeous. stop filling people's minds with your nasty, petty garbage

Posted by anon | March 27, 2009 2:11 PM

no more 100 dollar tickets, I don't know if I can afford much more. Definitely not 200+
they'll prob go up on craigslist soon

Posted by Anonymous | March 27, 2009 3:50 PM

dave's voice will def alienate some, I happen to love it, reminds me of Gary Numan doing Boyz II Men. The new 6 piece lineup is incredible.
