Explosions in the SkyExplosions in the SkyExplosions in the SkyExplosions in the Sky

Hi Everyone,

We just wanted to send out a message letting you know we have a couple of shows coming up. One is on March 21st, here in Austin, TX. The show is part of the annual South By Southwest festival/conference thing. But we want to make it clear that admission to our show is free. No tickets, no wristbands, no special badges, nothing of the sort. We're also part of the Sasquatch Festival in Gorge, WA on May 25th. We'll be playing alongside an absurd amount of great bands.

There will be a few more shows scattered here and there throughout 2009. We'll have more information about those in a month or two.

Now more shameless commerce....we added a bunch of new t-shirts to our little internet store in early December and most of the sizes sold out. Well, we're happy to say that all the sizes have been restocked and, as far as we can tell, are available immediately. And for those of you who live in Europe...we have set up a temporary internet store for leftover shirts from our 2008 European tour. There are two designs available. You can find out more if you click on the "store" heading above.

Okay, that's it for now. We hope everyone is doing well.
Thanks for caring.

One of those scattered shows was just revealed, and it's June 30th at Central Park Summerstage in NYC. Tickets go on presale Wednesday at noon, and then on regular sale on Saturday.

More bands playing Summerstage this year: HERE. A live video below...

I'm going to guess that 5:30 is the time doors open, either way that sucks!

I get off work at 6PM, then it should take me about 20 minutes to get there, meaning I'll be very far back or in an uncomfortable position. Anyway, it's EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY! :D

I went to check out these guys last year at Terminal 5. They have to be one of the worst POS bands I've seen since Neutral Milk Hotel. There is absolutely no originality to their music. No emotion. People actually cheered for an encore but they said they were too tired. Dude, you are an entertainer. You could be baking bread at Subway. Play an encore if the people who paid $25+$7 service charge are still in the house. Lame. Never again.

HOOOOLLLYYY SHITTTT!! I've always wanted to see them outdoors! AWESOME!!

Damn, weren't they opening up for bands at the Bowery Ballroom just a few years ago? Trail of Dead/EITS was a great show. Never thought they would get this big. Good band, but not Summerstage headlining good.

anon 903...

i disagree with the automatic encore sentiment. i love when bands play an awesome set and just leave with no encore. unless it's like a classic arena act (radiohead, pearl jam etc) it's not necessary to play an encore. sometimes bands end their main set in a perfect way and an encore just takes away from the show.

Praying for Eluvium as opener again

hi, i just moved to ny this year, is summerstage seating/standing room/both?

only semi downer is that i feel that explosions in the sky's music is much more suited for the night... i think it'll lose it's power in the daylight...
i personally also don't think it's standing room type music.

by the time they go on it will be dark out. summerstage is GA standing room only but there are bleachers in the back if you want to sit.

i was at that T5 show and thought an encore wasn't entirely necessary. especially with a band like EITS where their sets are very free flowing and songs tend to blend into one another. it was still a great set regardless.

i love how 9:03 tries to demonstrate his indie cred by ripping neutral milk.

Anon 9:03:

Blah blah blah I'm so cool. I'm so cool that I'm too cool for Neutral Milk Hotel. Can't you see how cool I am? I'm so very cool and indie.

I was at that T5 show, while the venue wasn't perfect they sounded amazing.

Everyone knows that Neutral Milk Hotel was garbage live.

Wait, WHAT? Idiot.

explosions in the sky never play encores... at least I've never seen them do one. which is totally cool with me... their sets are always killer.

really looking forward to this Summerstage show. Hopefully it will be a nice evening. I can't imagine a better setting for an explosions in the sky show than in central park under the stars.

do they ever play longer than 45 minutes?

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2009 9:38 AM

anyone know if we need a password for the presale and what it is??

Posted by suz | March 11, 2009 9:59 AM

To Suz 9:59am

It seems like presale is for Amex holders so as long as you have that, you should be ok!

Explosions outside at Central Park will sound wonderful!

I can't wait!

10:49, That Trail of Dead/EITS show at Bowery was 7 years ago! Even though I'm not thrilled with their venue of choice either, they have worked hard to earn the place to play there. It's hard to deny it:

2001: Knitting Factory opening for Trail of Dead x2
2002: Bowery Ballroom opening for Trail of Dead
2004: North6
2005: Bowery Ballroom x 3
2006: Bowery Ballroom
2007: Society of Ethical Culture & Webster Hall
2008: T5
2009: Summerstage

They headlined Knitting Factory in 2003 and also played Mercury Lounge a few nights after the North 6 in 2004.

Posted by Anonymous | March 11, 2009 10:58 AM

the T5 show was great... the show at the Crazy Donkey in LI 2 nights before was even better
