Ghost LIVE in 2003
Ghost

Before Michio Kurihara was involved in a little band named Boris, he played in another long lasting Japanese band named Ghost. Ghost have scheduled a North American tour in April and May. That includes a show at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn on May 9th. Tickets go on AM EX pre-sale beginning Wednesday, today, at noon and go on general sale on Friday.

A collective of psychedelic-minded Japanese musicians headed by guitarist Masaki Batoh, Ghost records commune-minded free-range psychedelia with equal debts to the Can/Amon Düül axis of Krautrock, as well as West Coast psych units like Blue Cheer and Jefferson Airplane. -[allmusic]
Ghost's last release was a live album CD/DVD for Drag City in 2007, Overture: Live in Nippon Yusen Soko 2006.

Also on May 9th, just across town, another great Japanese rock band will play as part of the Wordless Music Series... MONO have added a second night to their Hymn To The Immortal Wind engagement with a live orchestra. You can also catch them on May 8th.

Amon Düül are scheduled to play as part of Roadburn 2009, along with Saint Vitus. All Ghost dates below...

HOLY SHIT!! I thought they were never touring the U.S. again! This is a dream!

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2009 9:56 AM

WOW!!! this is incredible news!!!

@9:56, they weren't gonna play the US until Bush was out of office so it's safe once again. Though Batoh did play some shows w/ Helena of Espers last year.

Also, before Kurihara joined up w/ Ghost he was mainly involved w/ White Heaven...definitely check this band out if you haven't heard it...that guy's playing is so damned good.

Anyone know if kurihara is playing with ghost on these dates?

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2009 10:56 AM

Kurihara was playing with them on the recent live disc, and this was recorded/released after he began working with Boris, so I assume he will be part of the band.
So excited!!! I asked Batoh if Ghost would be touring North America again when he was here with Helena Espvall, and his reply was "Never more"... glad he was wrong!

Anon 10:48, they played Terrastock in Providence 3 years ago, though I don't know when they made that declaration. Anyway I'm excited about this as the Terrastock set was incredible!

Matt--The Prov Terrastock appearance was billed as their last ever US appearance, as I recall. I'm glad they're coming back. That show left a lot of people scratching their heads.

does anyone know who the touring cellist is?

Posted by jon | May 3, 2009 11:23 PM

the show tonight was phenomenal!!!

excellent improvised sections, a fantastic setlist, and an all-round insanely good performance. i had not seen Ghost yet and they certainly did not disappoint. amazing!!!

the cellist, btw, is Helena Espvall, of Espers/Anahita/etc., who made a record with Masaki Batoh of Ghost last year.
