Neko CaseIf you have been streaming the new Neko Case album on NPR the past couple of weeks, you know how good Middle Cyclone is. Out tomorrow on CD and digitally, this is by far my favorite music release of the week.

U2's new album, No Line on the Horizon is available in a variety of options: single CD, CD/Poster/Book/DVD, CD/Poster/Film Download, CD/Magazine/Film Download, MP3, and 2-LP vinyl.

Along with these obvious highlights, the music release week is very strong. From what I have already heard I can recommend Bell X1's Blue Lights on the Runway, Bosque Brown's Baby, Marissa Nadler's Little Hells, Say Hi's Oohs & Aahs, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives' Communion, and Wild Light's Adult Nights.

I haven't heard hip-hop legend Grandmaster Flash's new album, The Bridge, but it definitely has me intrigued enough to preorder.

The week's notable reissues (at least the two I plan to pick up) are both on vinyl, Dungen's Ta Det Lugnt and M. Ward's 2001 album, End of Amnesia .

What new releases can you recommend? Have I left anything off the list?

neko is 7.99 at best buy this week.

$7.99 at Best Buy? Now, if Virgin Records had been charging a reasonable $7.99 for new CD's, maybe they wouldn't be going out of business 'bout now...

best buy is taking a loss on that. they drop prices to get you in to buy tv's and other higher ticket items. if virgin mega dropped everything that low, they'd be gone many years ago. virgin mega doesn't sell much in the high ticket area.

Neko Case(solo-not New Porn)has put out some of the best music over the last 10 years or more. She has been very consistent. Her new cd is another winner.

Newbury Comics has it for $7.99 too...if you are in New England and don't want to go to Best Buy. On the other hand, is it really worth talking about Best Buys cd prices? They don't want to make money on cds anyway.

So why'd they get rid of the "To Your Mom" part of their name?

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2009 5:56 AM

because it sounded pretty dumb.
