crowd surfing on Friday the 13th
Les Savy Fav

Although the press release urged showgoers to wear their best PJs (editor's note: I definitely missed that), there didn't appear to be any striped pants sets or long johns in the crowd at the the Les Savy Fav pajama party themed show at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple on Friday (the 13th) night. The cavernous temple looked far removed from the suggested festivity - that is until Tim Harrington appeared amid the audience, donning a cotton nightie with Goldilocks wig snugly tucked under a pink shower cap. He cried "Girl's night!" as he made his way through the crowd, slapping green facial masks on those in desperate need of an exfoliation. The stage was covered with down pillows for fights, and Tim gossiped with the audience, played some Bloody Mary (do you say it 3 times or 100 times?), and did a little party levitation when he later crowd surfed in a Jason Voorhees mask as he chanted "light as a feather, stiff as a board." The party went late, ending around 1:00 am, or just a little before Tim crawled around on the feather-littered floor tangled in his endless microphone cord during "Je T'Aime."

Frenchkiss's newest signing Sean Bones, and the one and only Francis (and the Lights) opened the show. More pictures below...

The sounds was terrible. Incredibly muddy sounding. LSF were great as always.

SLUMBER PARTY!

Can someone please tell Francis and The Lights that the 1980s called and it wants both its music and dance moves back.

Seriously, WTF?!? I was like watching one of Jerry's kids having a seizure on stage. He did everyone white guy dance move, including the overbite. Sadly, I don't think he was being ironic.

Francis & the Lights was literally the worst band I've ever seen. The lead singer awkwardly and clumsily flung his microphone out of reach at least twice while trying to do a stage slide. Francis, sweeite, no one actually LIKES Phil Collins, it's kitsch. Stop trying to make a living on it.

The sound is always terrible on the floor.

Francis and the Lights was sort of awkward. The best part is when it looked as if they were going to come out for an encore as the audience (jokingly, presumably) egged them on.

This show was a blast from start to finish. I thought Francis and the Lights were amusing enough. The songs were pretty catchy. The singer was kinda douchey... but that was his schtick. Les Savy Fav tore that joint a new hole. It was sweet.

Cool venue... $4 PBR cans... great views all around. Wasn't too packed in there... just the right amount of people. You could walk around the place and enjoy the show from different spots with ease. The sound was kinda muddy on the floor, but great up on the balcony.

Crowd was good. Everyone just having a good time. Nobody was too obnoxious. I picked up one of the posters. Really cool looking. As a bonus... Tim Harrington popped outside after the show with an armful of t-shirts and dumped them on the sidewalk. I got a green one!

Perfect Friday night show.

I was right up front. The people behind me left after Francis and the Lights and were screaming like tweens at a Jonas Brothers concert the entire time they were on stage.

Not the best Les Savy Fav show ever, but still fucking amazing.

$4 PBR? Is that supposed to be some sort of bargain? You can get 12 for $7.99

@10:53...

That's awesome! What venue sells PBRs at 12 for $7.99? I need to check this place out!

You're spending too much on shit beer is the point.

Posted by Anonymous | March 17, 2009 11:00 AM

better than a $6 heineken.

Daaaaahhhhh...I was there too!

Ditto, obviously lsf was amazing as usual. They were at like 88%.

Francis & the Lights were, well...very interesting. ya know, to be fair they had really well thought out, good songs. but i can totally see how they wouldn't be for a lot of people...since this is basically a copycat sound from the very dregs of the 80s rich people music. They did win over the crowd with his stage antics, etc.

just thought it was worth saying.

masonic temple sucks. shitty place to see a show. the novelty is over. find a new place, please.

Posted by Anonymous | March 17, 2009 4:15 PM

Novelties only exist in Williamsburg. The Temple is not in Williamsburg.

i think francis loves the cocaine a bit too much...running off stage and then coming back as even more jittery than before is a dead giveaway. and the Fav rocked as always. but i am getting to old for this sort of thing.

I really enjoyed the Francis and the Lights gig at Emo's. Francis really connected with the audience and I fucking loved his moves! Jake Rabinbach, their guitar player, also plays in a band called Jump Back Jake. Check them out at http://jumpbackjake.com.
