« What's going on Wednesday? | Phosphorescent performed 'To Willle' @ the Bell House in Brooklyn, Motel Motel opened - pics »
words and photos by Faith-Ann Young

Due to the snow, I suffered miserably to get myself to the Woodstock party at Santos Party House on Monday night. By the time I got there I had missed the first act Joanna Erdos and the Midnight Show.
Regardless, Shilpa Ray & Her Happy (male) Hookers are pretty much blowing my mind these days and this show was no exception. Shilpa has an addictive rasp that screams Fuck-all attitude... appropriate for a Woodstock-themed event. Santos, with its heart-shaped disco ball and neon psychedelic lights are a far cry from the sun-soaked open fields of Woodstock, but Shilpa did the best Woodstock she could - killer Hendrix "Fire" cover included, especially considering the crowd was pretty sober and there was definitely no one wandering around naked and tripping.

These pictures are terrible. Did we really need to see the exit sign?

"These pictures are terrible. Did we really need to see the exit sign?"

I'd bang her

Be tough for her to match the Valentines show. One of the best shows of the past few years. Can't wait to see her in Austin!

the exit sign is the best photo of the lot

You really should have got there on time to see Joanna Erdos and the Midninght Show play. It was an amazing show. Her version of Joni Mitchell's Woodstock blew me away. She's probably the most underrated Brooklyn musician out there. Her songs radiate an intelligent warmth, but they can kick you in the balls when they need to, not to mention she's smokin' hot. http://www.myspace.com/themidnightshowband

Not enough beards, tight pants, and gang gang dance(first band to twittle nobs on the planet attitude) "unique" clones. Kinda like "experimental" music with that 80's fashion, plus the big heads to go with it.

Someone at BV is editing out negative comments about Shilpa. Let's see how long this comment lasts before they pull the plug.
Posted by Vegan Meat | March 5, 2009 10:28 AM
Nice job, whoever's editing. Way to keep feedback objective. Way to hand-pick the good stuff people say to promote your star.
Let people speak. People will regulate each other. 5 people saying "i'd hit it" will be called out. Communities know how to regulate themselves.
I don't go to this site for censored comments.

Yeah 10:52, I thought this was an open forum. You take the good with the bad but at least 2 disparaging comments regarding Shilpa have been removed from this thread.
I don't see anyone editing out negative comments on the Killers or Strokes, but with Shilpa someone at BV is picking and choosing what stays. Isn't it enough that BV is already covering her ALOT without having to censor what we say?
I wonder what other artists this has been happening with.
Posted by Vegan Meat | March 5, 2009 11:05 AM
Just so you know, yesterday I posted a *positive* comment about the show that isn't up anymore, I don't think anybody's weeding out anything I think there is a glitch amiss...
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2009 11:51 AM
there is no glitch
Posted by Vegan Meat | March 5, 2009 11:55 AM
If BV is now editing the sexually degrading comments about female artists, then good for him. It improves the quality of the site.

There is no spoon. Just your mind.
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2009 12:06 PM
Why would BV censor certain critiques but leave posts that call them out for censoring?
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2009 12:09 PM
I did see certain negative comments and they're no longer here. Oh well, they didn't add anything but cruelty. I think we should have the option to create user names.
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2009 12:16 PM
A negative comment wasn't removed. A racist one was.
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2009 12:19 PM
Wow that comment deserved to be erased. Racist potty mouth ain't cool.
Bringing it back, I was at show.....wouldn't say it was "mind-blowin" but that chick is a pro at playing that hand harmonium. Erdos was good as well. And hot as fuck.
Santo's was half-filled and pretty lame and there was this annoying film crew blocking the view so I think these pictures made it look cooler than it actually was.
whatever, let's see if this gets erased.
Posted by erdosishot | March 5, 2009 12:57 PM
I thought Shilpa and band blew the roof off. Great cover choices too. What was the film crew there for?
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2009 1:13 PM
@10:52 AM, 11:05 AM
I've noticed that comments are "moderated" as well. I've given up on the comments after the majority of posts started being from Anonymous and a timestamp.
@12:09 PM
To give the illusion that it's not censored.
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2009 1:42 PM
One racist and crude comment was deleted out of here. The person who wrote it ("Vegan Meat") in turn started bitching about it, and then tried to write the same exact thing again.
There's not much to it, but feel free to continue coming up with conspiracy theories.
Posted by brooklynvegan | March 5, 2009 1:55 PM
"What was the film crew there for? "
filming for a Woodstock documentary
Posted by brooklynvegan | March 5, 2009 1:58 PM
No conspiracy theories here, just applauding the removal of offensive material. Can you start to cleaning out the Vivian Girls topics now?
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2009 4:14 PM
This show rocked me. New band makes BTD look like hamburger meat.
Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2009 4:20 PM
