DOWNLOAD: Midnight Masses - Heaven (MP3)

...Trail of Dead

"Oh Trail of Dead, you had me at the double drums. How do you prevent the incessant talking that goes on during shows? You play an intensely loud, ear-ringing set. Great energy from the crowd and the band. The new songs sounded great too and with the possible of exception of "Fields of Coal" all seemed to fit in nicely with their back catalogue." [Metro Distortion]
"Brooklyn's Midnight Masses is the collaborative fruit of Autry Rene Fulbright and Jason Reece. Fulbright, a native of Atlanta, relocated to NYC in 2007 before joining noisy TV on the Radio cohorts Dragons of Zynth and clocking hours with Kanine indie rockers Shock Cinema. Reece, of course, mans the guitar in Austin, Texas' And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead. In Midnight Masses, the duo's songs are complimented by the work of Roger Sisters member Miyuki Furtago, Destiny Montague of Shock Cinema, Santogold touring guitarist Eric Rodgers, and Giselle Reiber."

Trail of Dead and Midnight Masses played Music Hall of Williamsburg on Friday, and then Bowery Ballroom on Saturday (with The So So Glos), and are now on tour. More pictures from Saturday's show, TOD's setlist, and all tour dates, below...

Midnight Masses guy reminds me of Sideshow Bob. ToD is terrible. More Source Tags & Codes, less other shit.

ToD is terrible? More Source Tags & Codes.

You sound like every other brainless hipster about this band.

Basically, "I like what the critics like."

Well, the critics like the new album. I'm sure you'll find it good, in time, as well.

And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Crap.

Love that aerial shot of all the balding men at the show. And I thought Williamsburg was just infants!

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2009 10:49 AM

^^ That's the Bowery Ballroom located in the Lower East Side DORK.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2009 10:59 AM

this band is irrelevant and has been irrelevant since about 2001.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2009 11:25 AM

seriously, why are there so many balding men at that show?

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2009 12:07 PM

Mindless hipsters are actually the ones who think that their recent releases are even half as good as anything before/including the Elena's Tomb EP. It doesn't take a rocket scientist or a critic to say that the band quickly went to shit with Neil's departure. All it takes is some fucking taste, which clearly you lack Rob.

why such haters?! shit, the band played one of the best live shows I've seen in ages and if you weren't there, really no need to comment and if you were there you're a dumb ass for paying to see a band you obviously don't care about.

sorry they're not some 20 something post art school band learning how to play their instruments while living in the heart of hipster land - courtesy of mom and dad.

Midnight Masses were great at Music Hall. That singer was not fucking around. And it always helps to have some cute girls in your band, especially when they are not just ornamental.

Pains of Being Pure at Heart was a big letdown after them. I thought mmmmmmaybe I might like them, but no.

I liked Trail of Dead too, partly because everyone in the front seemed to be losing their shit for most of the show.

Posted by Aaron | March 3, 2009 12:41 PM

"losing their shit for most of their show"

Yeah, I bet the crowd responds the same for Chairlift, Vivian Girls, and other BV band du jour.

Posted by rod munch | March 3, 2009 1:31 PM

the crowd up front at the MHoW show was fucking bananas, i wanted to jump in but i was accompanying someone..

ToD put up a great show the new album is good too

i was a huge fan of trail of dead's first two albums, and they were head and shoulders the best live band around for several years. but that was a long time ago now. they are a caricature. a laughing stock. and that gives you a starting point when discussing people who still like their music and go to their shows. i know this from: a) having given each album a fair listen and b) having gone to see them twice since they recorded worlds apart. once immediately after, and then again recently at the luna lounge to see if maybe they would return to their roots.. god fucking awful. they are beyond redemption. it amazes me they still draw any crowd at all...

2:51, you're gonna lead a really terrible life if you remain that cynical about, of all things, music.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2009 2:59 PM

2:51

Thanks so much. Now I can sleep peacefully.

Posted by Ron | March 3, 2009 3:24 PM

trail of dead should call it quits and just join midnight masses fulltime. they were the best band of the night at music hall. pobpah were painfully dull.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2009 3:32 PM

They draw a crowd of bald guys who haven't seen a show since 2002 who are just happy to get away from their now-overweight wives and bratty kids.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2009 3:34 PM

Uh, why are none of you talking about The So So Glos? They are the jam.

Posted by Anonymous | March 3, 2009 3:46 PM

The Trail of Dead show in Atlanta was absolutely fantastic and one of the best I have seen in a while. Long live ToD. I love that band. And it's also nice that they are very cool guys.

@1:31 "Yeah, I bet the crowd responds the same for Chairlift, Vivian Girls, and other BV band du jour."

Why are you putting ToD in the same category as Vivian Girls and Chairlift? Is ToD a BrooklynVegan band du jour? If anyone from that night fits that category, it's Pains of Being Pure at Heart.

@2:51 "recently at the luna lounge...god fucking awful"

My friend James was at this show with me, he also went to that Luna Lounge show. According to him, they were WAY better at Music Hall.

Posted by Aaron | March 3, 2009 6:18 PM

That Luna lounge show was awesome. And 5 bucks!?!?! Anyone who complains about that show should have half a roll of quarters shoved up their ass.

Posted by Ron | March 3, 2009 7:17 PM

I only see three bald heads, in a sea of fully-tressed people. That is hardly the majority, you retard.
