Flight of the Conchords, Eugene Mirman, Nada Surf tickets, Holly Miranda, Neko Case, Hawksley Workman & more

April 14, 2009 (lana adinne)
Flight of the Conchords

Last night (April 14th), Flight of the Conchords played the first of two NYC shows with Kristen Schaal at Radio City.

Sporting boxy robot helmets (red eyebrows, bobbing antennae) and silver lame shirts, the pop duo Flight of the Conchords took the vast stage of New York's Radio City Music Hall last night and launched into their current hit, "Too Many Dicks (On the Dance Floor)."

An expressive crowd -- every one of the venue's 6,200 seats was filled, as they will be for an encore performance tonight -- responded to the nerdy New Zealanders with raucous catcalls and applause that rarely let up during the hourlong set. [Bloomberg]

The band's second Radio City show is tonight (April 15th).

FOTC show star and tourmate Eugene Mirman hosts tonight's sold out Nada Surf show at the Bell House. Want to go? The venue will be selling 40 tickets at the door.

Mirman will also be appearing at John Wesley Harding's Cabinet of Wonder show at (Le) Poisson Rouge later in the evening.

Holly Miranda is also on the bill for the Bell House tonight. If you miss her, she has another NYC show scheduled for Tuesday, May 5th at the Mercury Lounge, with Illinois. Tickets are on sale now.

Like Flight of the Conchords, Neko Case did a two-show NYC run -- the second of her two shows at Nokia was last night. Opening her first show (April 13th) on was Crooked Fingers, who played a second show at the Bell House last night. Tallest Man on Earth played their first of two shows last night - the second is at Bowery Ballroom tonight with Red Cortez - both bands will play Culture Shock at SUNY Purchase this weekend.

Last but not least (and not related), just wanted to throw in a mention of Canadian songster Hawksley Workman, who played Joe's Pub shows in December and January, is at the same venue tonight. Tickets are still on sale.

Did you do your taxes?

they were about 100000 times better last year at town hall. last nite was a letdown. not sure if it was them, or if RCMH is just way too big for this type of comedy to translate well live.

Why on earth would anyone go see comedy in a venue that large???

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 6:57 PM

12,400 people paid big bucks to see them in a venue that large, apparently

They're pretty funny, I wouldn't regret going to that show

the show in DC was horrible

I thought this show was great. Probably depends on how far you were from the stage re: venue size. I missed Town Hall, but I did see them at Blender Theater and Comix, and thought this show was just as good.

I saw both Radio City shows and land night's was definitely weak. However, tonight's show was fabulous. Three encores, audience interaction, tight music. I remember they had the same pattern last year at Town Hall. First show weak, second show sizzling.

I only saw the second show and thought it was way better than the Town Hall show I have seen. At Town Hall, when people started laughing, you could not hear what FOTC were saying. Radio City's sound system was much more suitable for them.

At first it was funny. Now, after a few years, not so much. But good for them. Capitalism.

They're just funny guys regardless! Hilarious, three encores, lots of great banter. Bret broke a toy piano in the first song and Jemaine would periodically throw keys into the audience. Tape of Love was the last song of the encore!

And Kristen Schaal was hilarious. This bit went on for about five minutes, and I think a lot of people were annoyed by it after a while, but I was dying laughing.

yeah, DC wasn't all that great... still fun though. worst part was the crowd. bunch of assholes yelling out song requests like they were at the black cat or something.

I had a great time last night and I was expecting the worst.

*** this post is boobytrapped so be careful..better to just leave it alone***

Have a great day.

Saw both shows, too. And I agree. I thought tonight's show was much better. That mighta been due to being in the front but waaay side row the first night. The sound was horrible--muddy and bassy. Wednesday night show I had seats further back, but closer to center aisle. Was 10 times better. My gf liked the first night better, though. Go figure.

Those of you who went to both shows by this comedy act that plays intentionally bad songs...the joke is on you...you are the people they are ridiculing....

I thought the 2nd show was awesome. their great entertainers in general. the opening number (too many dicks) rocked. Kristen Schall was very funny. I also sat in the orchestra. All in all money well spent.

^
"their"? Do they own said great entertainers?

Posted by Anonymous | April 17, 2009 10:41 PM
