There are no more good record stores in New York. Sucks

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 10:19 AM

is Other Music the only place having live in-store events in the city?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 10:36 AM

Vintage Vinyl out in Jersey is having bands all day today.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 11:21 AM

i'm going to soundfix...

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 12:18 PM

Soundfix has a bunch of cool stuff for sale today...but no events, unfortunately.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 12:24 PM

Looney Tunes on Long Island is having bands all day.

Posted by Kurt C | April 18, 2009 12:37 PM

Line at Other Music was crazy!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 12:39 PM

Bleecker St had about 15-20 people there at 11. It was a little crazy since UPS showed up a couple minutes before but they had some good stuff: Tom Waits, Springsteen, Flight of the Conchords, etc. I picked up the 10" Gaslight Anthem.

I was also lucky enough to get the last copy of the My Morning Jacket release at Rebel Rebel.

A good morning indeed.

Posted by tremags | April 18, 2009 12:47 PM

Both Sonic Youth splits, Magnolia Electric Co., Obits, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen, Flaming Lips/Black Keys, Grizzly Bear, Elvis Perkins, Akron/Family at Permanent Records (they still have Pavement LP and Magnolia 7").

Black Moth Super Rainbow 7" and GBV LP at Soundfix (were pretty much cleaned out by 11:30)

Both Sonic splits and Pavement LP at Earwax (a bit unorganized there---didn't seem to know what they got in and heard that they started selling yesterday).

I can't believe that 7"s are $8!

Did anyone find the Whiskeytown 7"?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 12:49 PM

Yeah got Whiskeytown at Other Music. Grabbed one of their last 3 copies at around 11:30.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 12:59 PM

I think me and the guy next to me grabbed the last 2 copies of Whiskeytown at OM. They were bringing out additional copies of items still in stock on request. They had a lot of the other stuff still in stock as of less than an hour ago.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 1:06 PM

Just a quick note to all you amateur rare record collectors crowing on here now about your lucky finds.
The only really valuable and worth it things ie the only things that will be worth some money in the future are
Tom Waits 7"
Sonic Youth 7"'s
Pavement lp
and maybe the Flaming Lips/Black Keys split

Honestly collectors dont give a shit about that Gaslight Anthem, Whiskeytown, MMJ cd(which is not limited or exclusive at all), GBV, BMSR etc etc.
Congrats if you got em and enjoy them but don't go strutting like you picked up some gold.

Dickhead. Go finger yourself.

Posted by Rajah of Rehab | April 18, 2009 1:31 PM

Maybe people actually want to listen to the records they bought, you cynical douche.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 1:35 PM

MMJ is limited.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 1:37 PM

1:25 here. What part of me saying "Congrats if you got em and enjoy em" did you not understand schmuck 1:35?

Of course whoever bought them it has value to them and means something to them. I was just making a statement based on the idiots above me crowing they got the last Whiskeytown, GBV or MMJ etc as if they struck a goldmine.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 1:38 PM

MMJ is limited MY ASS. You will be able to walk in and by that today, tomorrow and long after that. They are shipping that in full long after today.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 1:41 PM

^^^^^ by=buy. My bad

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 1:42 PM

Going to see Titus at Vintage Vinyl!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 1:49 PM

i went to soundfix to pick up the pavement lp, but it was sold out. they had four copies only, and they were gone by 11:10 this morning.

i went to academy records on north sixth afterward, and they opened at noon and had MANY copies of the pavement lp. so, if you are looking for that in brooklyn, you can go there. it's $16.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 2:05 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 3:34 PM

Yeah, I got to Sound Fix a little before 1pm & they were pretty much out of everything (Record Store Day stuff that is). I don't know how much they had to begin with, but it was pretty quiet in there.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 3:39 PM

I'd hit it.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 4:06 PM

Does anyone know if the Modest Mouse 7 inch came out today?

Posted by michaelways | April 18, 2009 4:37 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 4:56 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 5:15 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 5:21 PM

are there any record store day specials on itunes?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 5:31 PM

i was in phoenix and hit up Stinkweeds before my flight home and found the Jesus Lizard 7" box set. i picked that up and the tom waits 7" and the pavement lp. then i got to the airport to find massive delays. too bad i didnt bring my turntable.

Posted by tiredteachernextday | April 18, 2009 5:54 PM

I got the GBV hold on hope EP and I got my buddy the Wilco dvd. My friend works at virgin and snagged me a copy of The Gaslight Anthem 10' and the Tom Waits 7'. Some guy at J&R got the last 2 copies of both right before I got to em!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 6:03 PM

did anyone find the Mastodon exclusive t-shirt?

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 6:06 PM

TODAY SUCKED! All i got were the Sonic Youth 7"s... and they suck too!

Posted by wingwalker77 | April 18, 2009 6:55 PM

What a waste of a day. Everything sold out. Hard to support record stores if they don't support you.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 7:02 PM

Sonic Youth is old and annoying now. They're old hacks who can't even play their own songs. I'd rather listen to Radiohead 4 EVER!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 7:10 PM

It's a celebration of the stores, not just those special releases. Enjoy the fact we still have record stores around.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 7:10 PM

What a waste of a day. Everything sold out. Hard to support record stores if they don't support you.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 7:02 PM

Everyone else on here got the records they were looking for, maybe you should have gotten up and to record stores the saqme time as the rest of us.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 7:33 PM

went to rhino records today in claremont awesommmezz. got the new Beirut and the new Strange Boys albums. one a gift card and got a free tickt to see Eagles of Death Metal (lol) but the line for that was too long so i left. but the other part was great!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 8:05 PM

Titus Andronicus played a great quick set today at Vintage Vinyl.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 8:53 PM

the record companies send what they want. i know at least, that virgin ordered almost everything, and we only got the radiohead's, antony and the johnsons, tom waits, and gaslight (among others but def. not pavement and some others that a lot were looking for). they sent maybe 5 copies of everything except for radiohead which we have buttloads of. i'm sure if the stores were given the product, we would put them on the shelves.

ps. hi adam!

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 9:04 PM

I went to Vintage Vinyl to see Titus and by the time I got there the selection of exclusives was almost non-existent. I was a bit disappointed but life goes on.

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 10:00 PM

scored a bunch of great stuff at academy, as always. had to put half my stack back just to avoid breaking the bank. what a great store. who cares about the "exclusive" releases, half of em are just old songs anyway...

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 10:53 PM

COLLECTORS RUIN EVERYTHING

that's what I had tattooed on my dick today

(yes it's that big)

Posted by Anonymous | April 18, 2009 11:15 PM

>>Everyone else on here got the records they were looking for, maybe you should have gotten up and to record stores the saqme time as the rest of us.<<

I didn't any get the records I was looking for. And I was at the stores by noon.

Posted by Anonymous | April 19, 2009 12:22 AM

Sonic Youth Sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 19, 2009 1:43 AM

The goal of Record Store Day is to show appreciation for your local independent record store. The exclusive music is like a thank you for stores to give to their customers. They are not available at iTunes, Amazon and the other major chains.

Having said customers come to the stores and told that there is no "special" music to purchase goes against what RSD is about. Aren't we supposed to support these stores? How can we support them if they have nothing to sell? I was not aware that RSD is nothing but a hipster easter egg hunt.

MCCARTNEY RULED COACHELLA!!! SO GREAT !!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 19, 2009 11:19 AM

Record Store Day is all about exclusive content to be resold for more money. It is not about indie stores at all:

Dead Weather 7" is available on the Third Man Records site for $6, and that includes shipping.

And yet there's about 25 or so listed on effin' ebay, including one with the ridiculous price of $69.99.

Posted by cj | April 20, 2009 4:22 PM

MMJ (vinyl at least) is one pressing. Dick.
