Of Montreal @ MHOW - 2 down, 1 to go (tonight)

Of Montreal @ Music Hall of Wiliamsburg - Apr 16, 2009 (jen c)
Of Montreal

"So I walked into tonight's show at Music Hall of Williamsburg waving a white flag, and anxious for a the live freak show that is Of Montreal. And what a freak show it is. Last time I saw them was at Bowery several years ago. At that show, lead singer Kevin Barnes walked on stage in a full white wedding dress. My friend Lauren told me the first time she saw them he entered the stage on a white horse. So long as he didn't walk out dressed as a Blooming Onion (a kangaroo would've been ok), it should be a good show." [100 Bands in 100 Days]
Of Montreal played two of their three shows at Music Hall of Williamsburg this week. If you're going to the third, tonight (April 17), don't forget to get there in time to see opener Janelle Monae.

A video from Wednesday's show below...

Anon 12:29 - they came on at 11:30p when they were scheduled for 11p at Wednesday's show. Anyone know if they did the same thing Thursday?

Posted by amko | April 17, 2009 12:57 PM

ugh, the whole taking half an hour extra is really unfortunate for timing purposes. even if its a friday.

Posted by Anonymous | April 17, 2009 1:10 PM

Heaven forbid we should accidentally hear anything but the headliner!

Posted by Anonymous | April 17, 2009 1:12 PM

A year from now you will be saying "holy shit, I can't believe i had the opportunity to see Janelle Monae by merely getting to that show I went to at Music Hall of Williamsburg one hour earlier... who was it again"

Posted by Anonymous | April 17, 2009 1:23 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 17, 2009 1:27 PM

Went Wednesday. Weird show. I am not terribly familiar with their newest album, but didn't recognize most of what they played. Set list anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | April 17, 2009 2:14 PM

Stay home, Grandpa.

Posted by Anonymous | April 17, 2009 2:18 PM

Sorry- I shouldn't have said that. I hope the aged and other people too weak or otherwise unable to stand up for more than two hours have a good time at this show. I know I will!

Has anyone been able to compile an accurate setlist from Thurs night? I can remember several highlights, but I was too elated through most of it to really remember the songs in order.

Thanks
Bill

Wed. night: Janelle Monae had the whole place going bananas within 5 minutes of taking the stage. I never heard of her before, and she blew my head off. People need to get there to catch her opener. Any other headliner & she would've totally stolen the show. But Of Montreal weren't even fazed. Set was heavy on Skeletal Lamping, with a dash of Hissing Fauna. Best part: people actually, really danced. A lot, through both JM & OM's sets. It was fantastic.

omg Janelle Monae was awesome - and she's just too crazy to keep those bangs under control! of course I love of Montreal, but I really can't wait to see Janelle Monae again.

Janelle Monae really did steal the show last night. Try not to miss her. Amazing. Heard she'll be opening No Doubt's summer tour.
