Phil Spector

"After about 30 hours of deliberation, a jury on Monday convicted music producer Phil Spector of second-degree murder in the death of actress Lana Clarkson more than six years ago.

Wearing a black suit with a red tie and pocket square, Spector showed no reaction as the verdict was announced. Now 69, he faces a sentence of 18 years to life in prison when he is sentenced May 29.

Asked if he agreed to the sentencing date, Spector quietly answered, "Yes."

Superior Court Judge Larry Paul Fidler declined to allow Spector to remain free on bail pending sentencing, citing Spector's years-long "pattern of violence" involving firearms." [CNN]

Sorry Anon 6:59 but it is too early to make jokes.
This is a time for quiet reflection, and not for posting comments.

if its a wall of sound, he's guilty found

He's a rebel.

I felt so happy I almost cried,
And then he killed me.

It's a shame, because you know he has so many good records left in him.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2009 12:34 AM

Johnny Cochrane, RIP...it was witty.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2009 12:38 AM

It was about as witty as a fart.

Phil Spector jokes could go in one of two directions: A) hair, B) wall of sound. Anything else is too random and wrapped up in referentialistic minutiae to have made any sense.

Option B was (predictably) chosen, in a way that pop culturally referenced another celebritrial.

Wow...witty indeed...didn't see that coming.

Go smoke some more weed and watch another Dane Cook special, you intellectual midget.

"if its a wall of sound, he's guilty found"

Cochrane by way of Yoda.

Spector might have beat the rap if ol' Johnny were around for him too...

he shot at the Ramones once in the studio. and they still put out a great record with him.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2009 2:13 AM

He never shot at the Ramones, and that was far from a great record.

He 'held a gun' to them to finish it, and the record ended up being not as great as it could have been.

mark fidrych RIP. the bird will fly high forever.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2009 10:01 AM

The truth of the matter is that he lucked into the Wall Of Sound by being too cheap to rent a big enough room. Besides that, he is an arrogant prick who rode it out for way longer than he should have, so i hope he gets prison raped daily for the rest of his life. Except he might be looking forward to that.

Posted by Unanymous | April 14, 2009 10:57 AM

he may be a murderer. but he is arguably the best American songwriter of the 20th century.

anon 8:31
You are correct about the story, but not about the album. End of the Century is actually a really good album, but gets thrown under the bus because it was a big departure from the first three albums.

On Spector, he's a ego maniacal douche who deserves to rot in jail. Long time coming.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2009 12:21 PM

Nonsense 11.05. The best American songwriter of the 20th Century was Burt Bacharach (and his friend Mr. David).

Spector was nothing special by comparison and passed his sell-by date decades ago. But he was also a typical of the general hellspawn created by the pop music business. There are plenty more where he came from and they will learn nothing from his example.

That's rock 'n' roll, lock up yer daughters.

Posted by Bye Bye Phil | April 14, 2009 12:53 PM

the wall of sound reference wasn't the funny part...it was the Cochrane defense-poetry reference, you anal dwarf.
End of the Century is a great album, gun or not.
Aside from Animal Boy and Too Tough to Die, it was the last great Ramones album.
Intellectual Midgets rock.
Phil Spector rots.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2009 4:19 PM

you are easily amused.

don't confuse that with an appreciation for wit.

Posted by Anonymous | April 14, 2009 4:33 PM

the whole thing is funny, aside from someone being dead.
