i'm not even a huge wavves fan, but i heard Horseshit open for Quintron the other night and felt their music was completely uninspired and downright boring. but hey, to each their own.

I've been to a few shows at your stupid "venue", showed up when you said the show was starting only to find myself in an empty room with 4 or 5 other people and the show not starting until hours later...hours wasted where I could've been at some other venue (that doesn't lie about start times) checking out other bands.

The difference between you & Mercury Lounge is that everyone knows that if doors (at ML) are at 7 and the show is at 9, that the show will be at 9. If said attendee shows up at 7 and expects the show to start then, then they're a fucking moron. You guys, on the other hand, tell people that the show starts at 8 or 9 or 10 (or whatever) but don't have the music start until a few hours later.

...and yet somehow you have the balls to claim that this is a more ethical way of doing things???

I don't think it's accurate to lump No Age into the same category as VG/Wavves.

VG are obviously a bunch of no-talent commodities that may or may not last.

Wavves seems more like a concept/image album and not really a "band".

If I remember correctly, the Future Islands/Double Dagger show at Market Hotel recently didn't get out until like 2. And I personally didn't have much of a problem with that, but apparently others did, because the crowd seemed to thin out significantly after DD.

I don't see how being unsatisfied is necessarily "sour grapes." Jealously is not inherently unjustified. It seems reasonable to be upset that shitty bands like wavves get popular, while more talented musicians are overlooked for not copying the zeitgeist verbatim or having lots of money

I am glad someone called out these crappy bands. New Times Viking, Vivian Girls, etc are all horrible. Wavves especially.

Double Dagger and Future Islands played together at the 1896 space, not at Market Hotel. And it was a 7 band bill that was all part of a big minifest (Baltimore vs Brooklyn).

It's fine to complain about this or that, but if you're going to make claims, don't fib and make up shit to support your argument.

No Age is a pretty good band coming from that scene. As far as Wavves, Vivian Girls, Ducktailss A lot of this comes from the Woodsist label who have a lot of influence in the mainstream underground market.

No one ever goes out on a limb to say something negative about these bands. Especially not bands for fear they won't get underground shows from over controlling promoters/curators who are bitter.

The underground scene (Especially in BK) is snooty and closed-minded and mostly controlled by a lot of people with complexes of all sorts. They act as a filter when we're not supposed to have filters and blacklist a lot of good legit hard working bands coming up. They decide if it's cool enough to be DIY/low-fi/underground and have tons of connections to blogs/media like this one.

I dunno I get why people like Wavves, vivian girls, and ducktailss, but please stop forcing shit down our throats and coating it with sugar just because you're underground.

2:47 imagines a vast conspiracy in the Brooklyn scene, whereas in reality there is just an open community of hard working earnest people making music and promoting it.

The obvious takeaway from 2:47's weird paranoia is that he/she is not making music that anyone likes, and therefor is projecting his/her own failure by imagining a stifling, all powerful cabal that doesn't actually exist.

The Brooklyn music scene is actually made up of many influential individuals who come and go, mostly defined by good taste and how willing they are to keep slavishly contributing for their community, despite the naysayers and the haters.

and as for wavves, im from san diego and now i live in la and everyone out here loves it. i love raw music. the mummies, had no talent what so ever, and that made me like them sooo much more. if a band can make it with having no talent, im more inclined to listen to them. its all about how you present yourself.
