Record Store Day (4/18) meant events at record stores all over the country on Saturday. Bill Callahan played Other Music in the NoHo section of Manhattan. Further west, Fat Beats had an all day line-up that ended with the Rock Steady Crew followed by DJ Premier, NYGz & Blaq Poet followed by headliner Talib Kweli (who also played Columbia University the same day). More pictures and video from some of the acts earlier in the day, below…

In the video, Marco & Torae talk about the album & perform their first official leak off Double Barrel, “But Wait,” which has been generating a huge buzz online & on local radio. Skyzoo Live @ Fat Beats NY w/ Big Zoo – Record Store Day ’09 from THEUNDERGROUNDCOMEUP.COM on Vimeo.

4.19.09 = Record Store Day @ Fat Beats NY (406 6th Ave). Skyzoo drops a dope verse over Blaq Poet’s DJ Premier produced cut, “Too Strong,” then goes back-to-back freestyling with Big Zoo from EOW. This IS the essence of real hip-hop & vinyl stores like Fat Beats are definitely where the hip-hop culture lives. Skyzoo’s mixtape “Power Of Words” is out now with DJ Drama & Statik Selektah & you can check out EOW (the longest running weekly open mic in NYC) every Sunday @ Pyramid. Big shouts to DJ Eclipse & DJ JS-1 on the 1s & 2s, holding it down!

Jacob took off before the headliners in order to catch Bill Callahan at Other Music.
