THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART= great, p4k created shit that i dont care about

BLACK MOTH SUPER RAINBOW=great, played an outdoor free show last summer, AND sucked really bad

and the august 7th bands are nobodies.

where are the free animal collective shows, free no age shows, free wire shows? fuck. makes me worried about the williamsburg waterfront

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 1:29 PM

Poopy line up.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 1:34 PM

here we go magic should be great! :)

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 1:36 PM

Free? Aw, man...what a rip off. All of these bands suck. And the sound at the South Street Seaport is awful.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 1:39 PM

NOW it's official
it's SPRING!

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 1:42 PM

slow club! what is p4k? 1:29 is too cool for school and the homeless shelter at the same time. respek!

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 1:50 PM

shit lineup

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 1:50 PM

no matter what do you kids just complain?
it's free
i mean not every year they can bring out the cream of the crop
still sounds good though, i'll be there!
plus there are several TBAs

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 1:52 PM

to 1:52,

no, i dont complain about everything. i wasnt complaining about the 2nd to last free mccarren park pool lineup (2007):

ted leo/thermals

blonde redhead

tv on the radio

band of horses/annuals

thats a free lineup ill never forget, that fucking pains of being pure at heart/black moth super rainbow doesnt TOUCH.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 1:54 PM

YES!

"...all she wants to do is daaaance! daaaance! daance!....and make romance."

Posted by Val Loper | April 15, 2009 1:58 PM

1:54
you're right
i have to try and remeber that the bv commentor isn't just one massive omnipresence and then me

haha funny that year i completely skipped beside beirut (or was he 06 too)mc carren 06 and 08 though i stayed there

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:05 PM

wave pictures are fantastic!

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:11 PM

Opinions are like arseholes

Posted by TrashMouth | April 15, 2009 2:12 PM

06 was good as well. 08, not so much. breeders were a snooze, MGMT was a rainy, unpleasant mess and i dont even remember what else they had

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:14 PM

are you kidding me? MGMT was the show of the year, if not the decade.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:22 PM

STFU Haters! You don't pay for anything, yet somebody is paying the bands -- they aren't playing for free -- it's probably sponsors who foot the bill, not a-holes like you. You want AC again? Go PAY your money for a ticket at Prospect Park. They're a great band. Another point...if you don't like the line up, don't come. Or better yet, pony up six figures and start your own free festival so everyone else can come an bitch about how much you suck.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:29 PM

2:22, i hope thats a joke.

MGMT is going to be a shitstain that will come out in the wash after maybe 2 years from now, if we're lucky. you should drive past a frathouse sometime, hear "kids" blasting and witness soroistutes grinding to it, and be embarrassed that you even listen this mediocre band in the first place, let alone call a show of theirs even remotely good.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:31 PM

show of the decade= arcade fire, lcd soundsystem, blonde redhead, les savy fav at randalls island. $40. 10/6/07, that day goes down in history for me.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:32 PM

sponsors and probably tax money

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:35 PM

Black Moth Super Rainbow should be pretty good. I'm liking the new record alright.

Always into some free shows in the summertime, you knowww.

Posted by kibbe | April 15, 2009 2:47 PM

I look forward to the Free Shows google calendar being updated. That thing rules.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:49 PM

haha i can't remember who played besides the deerhunter day and mgmt day either for 08
but i just went to all cuz it was the last year

haha mgmt show definitely was not show of summer!
but it did feel pretty amazing to make it through if you were able to

oh aesop rock played

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:49 PM

Luke Temple sucks

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:50 PM

speaking of mc carren
when does jelly usually post their line up?
can't wait
does the waterfront count as the same spot as where they hosted the 888 boredoms boardrums?
cuz that site was pretty amazing

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 2:57 PM

Luke Temple sucks

> Is it his great voice or his super catchy songs you don't like ? ... do tell

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:04 PM

"speaking of mc carren
when does jelly usually post their line up?
can't wait
does the waterfront count as the same spot as where they hosted the 888 boredoms boardrums?
cuz that site was pretty amazing"

at least a few months. dont they announce this in may/june?

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:09 PM

it was so fucking annoying the way they announced it last year. instead of the others years (where they announced it all at once), they didnt announce the YLT/titus andronicus show or the felice brothers thing (underwhelming and underattended show btw) until really late. hopefully, with like 6/8 shows or whatever they doing, they announce them all at once. h8 waiting.

also, speaking of free summer shows, any word on siren? is astroland shutting down the actual death knell of the festival that we've been hearing about for years? i hope to god not. siren was a blast every time i went.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:12 PM

does anyone remember when dead meadow played mccarren for free? fuck. such a great show. i think it was above 95 degrees that day.

hopefully the waterfront will bring goodtimes. RIP mccarren

and for everyone who is complaining...you're so spoiled. its a FREE live performance. even if you don't enjoy the music just go out and enjoy the day, people and have fun! FOR FREE. YOU'RE ALLOWED TO HAVE FUN FOR FREEEE

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:12 PM

i remember being in a computer lab when the initial line up was anounnced
so it had to be late april for the start with jelly but word it was really annoying how you had to stay tunned the whole year.
i was trying to check by bv but it's impossible with a bunch of one date updates

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:18 PM

I wouldnt pay to see any of these bands har har

Posted by Cheap Bastard | April 15, 2009 3:19 PM

how's about siren? what's up with dat?

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:20 PM

August 7 is going to be amazing. I'm especially glad that most people commenting here won't be there.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:21 PM

Im looking forward to the three nights of TBA - They f'ing ROCK!

Posted by Cheap Bastard | April 15, 2009 3:24 PM

If Luke Temple has any serious singing or songwriting gifts, they are buried beneath layers of boringness in HWGM.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:31 PM

siren? anyone?

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:42 PM

Someone should form a band called TBA. The amount of free publicity would be immense.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:45 PM

pay shows are better cuz there's less poor people...at the free shows they show up by the busload smelling like shite looking for free stuff.

Posted by Vikram Pandit | April 15, 2009 3:47 PM

siren is 7.18

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:50 PM

i love TBA. i have their first 7". Those guys rock so hard.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 3:51 PM

someone intelligent get the Antlers to play. Please.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 4:04 PM

FUCK ANYONE WHO DOESNT LIKE HERE WE GO MAGIC

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 4:05 PM

What makes Luke Temple suck is the fact that his fucking fanboys/friends and family come out of the woodwork and constantly post on any thread that mentions him about how he "stole the show" and how amazing he sounded and all this bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 4:09 PM

or maybe ppl just like him
seems pretty silly when ppl always thing that bands have this coalition that live to say how amazing they are on commnets

i don't even like his stuff really but that doesn't mean that other ppl do

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 4:14 PM

Archers Of Loaf should reunite and play the seaport music festival!

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 4:29 PM

4:29.... A friend of mine was having a beer with Eric Bachmann at Maxwells the last time Crooked Fingers played. My friend asked him if there was any chance of an AOL reunion, to which Eric Bachmann replied, "Man, I really miss playing with those guys." So we'll see....

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 4:42 PM

in other news, CREED is getting back together

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 4:55 PM

"siren is 7.18"

with the imminent destruction of coney island?

man, i fucking hope.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 4:56 PM

4:42 that just made my day. Hope.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 5:00 PM

"in other news, CREED is getting back together"

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 5:08 PM

Posted by michaelways | April 15, 2009 5:15 PM

CREED! fuck yea! corporate rock is back!!!

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 5:18 PM

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 5:20 PM

the seaport had suuuch good bands last summer, like such good live performers but they totally through it it away. no age sounded like shit, like someone padded the drums or something. dirty projectors got cut off because we were all going to die. etc etc.

but moshi moshi! best record company name ever. can i name my band that?

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 5:54 PM

threw*

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 5:54 PM

free liars show last year at mccarren was amazing.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 8:37 PM

I thought I knew my shit but I never heard of any of these fucking bands. Succcccks.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 11:11 PM

^
that's it...blame the organizers for your own lameness. loser.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2009 11:26 PM

btw. The owner/developers of South Street Seaport filed for bankruptcy protection today:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/constructionandproperty/5166440/General-Growth-Properties-files-for-bankruptcy-protection-with-27bn-debt.html

Will probably be sold off.
