Tallest Man on Earth

"Quite simply, the Tallest Man on Earth has an impossible voice. Looking a bit like Production Simple's Joe Argabrite, Kristian Matsson's "Tallest Man" status must surely come from his voice because no mere human should be able to sound like this (that, and it clearly does not come from his height). Although I was late to the game on TMOE, his debut Shallow Grave was amongst the best albums of 2008. Having fallen in love with the Dylanesque croons of Shallow Grave, I was beyond pleasantly surprised to find that live, it gives way to a penetrating growl of emotion that made the audience feel that Matsson was reliving each moment and truly experiencing every word as it was spoke." That review, and the pictures in this post, come from The Tallest Man On Earth's Bowery Ballroom show the other night (Red Cortez opened). The Tallest Man will be back, next time at MHOW during the Northside Festival. More pictures, the setlist, and a video from Bowery, below...

"In the end, it was a beautiful performance for a beautiful night, and it was fantastic to see an artist when even on the bill with Bon Iver didn't manage to sell out, and those in attendance were excessively rude, could come to the Bowery with just a guitar and pack the house ad keep them quiet and attentive." That was a good show. He should ditch the amplified and go straight up acoustic, best part of the show was when his amp failed and he lowered the mic.

Anyone go to the Union Hall show? How was it? I got sick and had to bail. Poor me.

union hall was AWESOME

indeed. the union hall show was excellent, and well suited to a venue that small (which was packed).

I liked the Union Hall show better because he could interact with the audience a bit more. He has a way of trying to force eye contact with the people up front which is somehow amusing. Sound was great both nights.

Incidentally, the posters at both of these shows were really cool.

i forgot to pickup a poster at union hall. anybody know if these are available anywhere?

this guy rules!

what's funny is the irony. he's short, yet his name alludes to being very tall.

damn...well I'm glad the union hall show was great, but now I'm just more bummed out about missing it.

i, too, loved the un-amplified bit - such a great show all around. the smaller venue is more personal and suits him much better than when he opened for bon iver in december.

I had 2 tixs for the Bowery show but couldn't go. Yea, I'm pretty bum out right now.

"He should ditch the amplified and go straight up acoustic"

yeah, that way we could hear more parent-supported BFA 20 somethings talk about their apartment in park slope, or the drunken idiots in the back screaming like it's a dmb show
