The Orb

"Four men/[The Orb] took the stage and though I couldn't tell you who was what, I could tell exactly who was Alex Paterson (essentially the one man Orb). I have very few albums of The Orb, and nothing very new, but I was happy to have their music wash over me as I stood there. Years have passed [since 1991's Adventures Beyond The Ultraworld] but their effect still hasn't changed. It was a nice change to have something soothe your ears rather than assault." [Hoofhearted]
The review references the show The Orb just played at Coachella. That's also where the pictures and videos in this post come from.

The Orb have more shows scheduled throughout the summer, and the group hits North America again in June and July. That trip includes two nights in NYC with Orchard Lounge. The dates are Friday, July 10th at the Music Hall of Williamsburg and Saturday, July 11th at the Bowery Ballroom. Tickets for both Friday and Saturday go on sale at Wednesday, April 25th at noon.

The Orb were last supposed to play NYC in 2006, but the show was cancelled like on the day of the show.

"Most dry ice ever was the Orb at Roseland in 1991."

That was the best show I barely remember. Was that where High Times had the smoking lounge in the balcony with the plastic bubbles you could go into that would trap all the smoke inside with you?

At Roseland, the Orb, which a decade ago was still absorbing influences for the ambient dance-music it started making in 1989, played an ambitious set that lasted more than two and a half hours. In that time, Mr. Paterson summarized his own career, adding the complex beat of England's current jungle music to some of his early songs and stripping the beat from later ones. He also provided a history of modern electronic music, spinning excerpts from records by everyone from the Minimalist composer Terry Riley to the space-rock band Can to the funk band Cameo.
