Francis & the Lights @ Brooklyn Masonic Temple (more by Natasha Ryan)
Francis and the Lights

Hopefully you had fun getting down on Friday. I am in a weird rut and did not go out! A lot of things I am really excited about are happening tonight/Saturday (4/11), but I won't be here. Have a good dance for me and let me know what I missed in the comments. Here's what's going on Saturday night along with some events happening next week:

SATURDAY NIGHT

Mutek's 2009 lineup looks awesome. Get in the mood for it with Mutek 10's Brooklyn preview happening at Studio B. Quite a few deejays will be there including Guillaume & The Coutu Dumonts (live) who I saw last summer when I was in Montreal. He's a bit outside of my regular listening, but his set was deep and definitely worth checking out. Rest of the lineup and info below:

Claro Intellecto live
Andy Stott live
MLZ dj set
Pangaea dj set
Ezekiel Honig live

Dance

$10 before midnight, $20 after

Meanred know what they're doing when it comes to throwing pure, raging dance parties. You will be sweating on the dancefloor until the sun comes up and will love every minute of it. This Saturday they are throwing a disco-tastic loft party (My Cousin Roy and House of House...why I am not going to be here?!). Party info including the rest of the lineup below:

Dance

Doors 10pm at The Jungle - 286 Meserole St - Brooklyn, NY

$10 reduced admission with RSVP.

There is another great-looking loft party, also happening in Brooklyn on Saturday night. This one is a benefit for Union Docs:

It's well known that arts organizations across the country have been struggling financially. In New York State alone, funding has been drastically cut for NYSCA supported arts organizations.

Which is why UnionDocs is presenting the "We All Benefit Loft Party Series", featuring monthly installments of benefit loft jams with both live performances and DJ's. All proceeds from the parties will go to support the UnionDocs space and the artist residency programs it supports.

The first party in the series is hosted by New York's own, Plant Music and will feature the following artists on the label as well as Bradley D (Famous Friends) and Holmar Filipsson (Union Docs):

Kap10Kurt (live) and dj sets from Stretch Armstrong, Dominique (The Glass/Plant)

Mr. Saturday Night is going strong at Santos. Last week Farely Jackmaster Funk's laptop wouldn't work so he wound up playing an entire set of old school Chicago house jams with Eamon's records! This week the great tunes continue with a dj set from Four Tet, plus a live performance from Francis and the Lights which will hopefully have you getting down as much as Francis does in this video for "The Top":

Dance

$15 at the door or $10 before midnight with RSVP to MISTER@MISTERSATURDAYNIGHT.COM

Advanced tickets available here.

If you missed Round Table Knights at Ruff Club last night or want to see them again, you can catch them for free at Crooked Disco in the gallery bar of Le Poisson Rouge. Also, there's a mix you can download from the Round Table Knights in yesterday's post.

Dance

One final suggestion for Saturday, that was recommended by BV photographer Zach Dilgard is the Future Is Beautiful, which he described as "a really nice spread of ambient music + visuals and then transitioning into dancey techno, really fun party":

This is the Week in Dance, but I just wanted to give you a heads up/recommend a few non-dance things coming up next week. The Tallest Man On Earth is touring and he'll be playing Union Hall this Tuesday (4/14) and Bowery Ballroom on Wednesday (4/15). I saw him back in December, knew nothing about him prior and found his performance to be pretty impressive. I don't know enough of Bob Dylan's music to tell you if I think he lives up to the title of "the Swedish Bob Dylan" that's been going around, but he's definitely worth seeing.

On Tuesday, April 14 Findlay Brown (who I saw a couple of months ago and talked about a bunch here) is playing Mercury Lounge.

And...Wednesday (4/15) the film, Man on Wire (which I mentioned at the end of this post and has since won the academy award for Best Documentary) is being shown at St. John the Divine followed by a Q&A with Philippe Petit.
