I see Peter Stampfel on the poster, but not on the schedule. Is he part of one of the jams?

boring

Yes, let's have it in Red Hook so even fewer people turn up. And make sure no one's ever heard of any of the acts in the lineup....

Posted by Anonymous | May 12, 2009 10:54 AM

Hopefully it will be more folk bands and not solo singers.

Very few people in the history of music have pulled off the whole acoustic singer/songwriter act live. Most people that play solo because they are just not good enough to find a band willing to play "their" songs.

No Langhorne?

"Yes, let's have it in Red Hook so even fewer people turn up."

Red Hook is where a lot of Brooklyn's folk and country scene is happening.

"no one's ever heard of any of the acts in the lineup...."

Some people are willing to just go check out live music, and this seems like the kind of event where you can discover new acts rather than just go see who you already know you love. Take a chance

Take a chance on getting mugged by going to Red Hook.

Hey - Do a quick search on John Cohen before you say that it's a bunch of acts no one has ever heard of. You're smart enough to leave a comment, you should be smart enough to look up an amazing musician, film maker, photographer who has been doing this since the early 60s.

This is long overdue and will be totally awesome. Jalopy is a beautiful venue and it's perfect for this kind of event!

See you there, Vegans.

Hey,

I want to say thanks to all of you who decided to take a chance on some unknown musicians by coming out to the festival. There is a lot of good music out there, but most of it isn't that easy to find. I am really proud that I was asked to be a part of such an event that actually blew my mind away.
In any event, a lot of the performers play out for free on Wednesdays at the Jalopy theater during the RootsnRuckus shows hosted by Feral Foster. If you're ever in the area, it would be cool to check out.

And just as an aside...I've been to Red Hook many many times, and never once been mugged or bothered. In addition to taking a chance on hearing some new people perform, why not also take a chance on New York City and see some different neighborhoods.

Be good kids!

"no one's ever heard of any of the acts in the lineup...."

Yeah that doesn't mean people aren't going to show up. People love to see newcomers as well as established singers and bands.

Great post and really interesting line up although I agree that I certainly have not heard of any of the acts within the pre show performance..

Seems interesting. I just hope that more bands will appear. It's more rockin' if a band sings rather than having a solo performer. :)
