Maybe the views of the city aren't as good as I was led to believe, but as you can see in these pictures taken at last night's Animal Collective show, there is in fact a spacious, new roof deck with a bar and couches at Terminal 5...

I was told by the security guard that it is only open before and during the show. It would be a much better idea to have this space open AFTER shows. Terminal 5 could make so much money off drinks by letting people hang out.

Dress it up all you want but terminal 5 is still a turd!

I dig Terminal 5 for the most part. It isn't without its problems, but what large standing room only venue ISN'T flawed? I think the addition of the roof deck is pretty cool. Certainly doesn't make the place WORSE, like some of the cunty commenters will knee-jerkingly exclaim

Posted by Anonymous | May 14, 2009 10:07 AM

Wretched venue.

Posted by Anonymous | May 14, 2009 10:09 AM

Whats cool about the roof deck is all the D-nozzles who like to pay $35 just to hang out and chit chat during a show will probably end up on the roof instead of standing next to me.

Avoid Terminal 5 at all costs, the security they hired for last nights AC show were a bunch of power tripping thugs, extremely unpleasant...

Part of the appeal of a roof deck are views of the city. Leave it to T5 to have their roof deck enclosed with 20 foot walls and have unnecessary balconies (probably to increase capacity).

T5 is committed to being the worst venue in the city.

When Terminal 5 was Exit and whatever club incarnation it was before, they've always had a roof section.

Posted by Anonymous | May 14, 2009 10:30 AM

Seems like a good addition to me, and maybe I'd show up a little earlier instead of pre-gaming at the nearest bar, which is at least one avenue away.

this venue is terrible. I'm never going back

Posted by Anonymous | May 14, 2009 10:43 AM

It looks nice.

Still the worst place to see a show in the city

Posted by Anonymous | May 14, 2009 11:19 AM

I agree with 10:13am

Posted by Anonymous | May 14, 2009 11:20 AM

What's amusing is that some people hold such hatred for this venue yet these same people won't think twice about going to see another show there since T5 does host the biggest indie rock bands --- and it sells out all the time.

11:47 the music is more important than the venue. Even though I agree this venue is awful, if it is the only place to see one of my favorite bands ill suck it up and go.

If this venue sucks so bad, then why do you all keep going there? And if the answer is "because a band I want to see is playing there"...well, so? Make some sacrifices...put some actions behind those words. If you keep shelling over your money and they keep selling out shows then the management is going to assume that everything is going along peachy keen and they'll have no incentive to improve the place.

You people are idiots & lemmings. You deserve to get ripped off by venues if you have this little of a spine and your convictions are this weak & malleable.

I avoid bowery presents shows due to their viciously mean door people / security.

"When Terminal 5 was Exit and whatever club incarnation it was before, they've always had a roof section."

Yup .. I remember that as well..in those days "fresh air" was a medical necessity rather than a different place to hang.

I assume the walls are there (only sky access, because it's too much of a liability with drunk, druggies,..etc roaming around.

You, dude that only posts comments which find a way to craftily include "MEH" in them somewhere, are a giant tool. I know its the same asshole every time because only one person in the world could possibly be so constantly amused by doing it.

There’s way too much draMEH in this thread.

Of course it has a roof deck. That's how they would hide the underage kids after prom when it was Exit. ooohhhh Exit.

Posted by ROCK STARchitect | May 14, 2009 4:25 PM

the walls are to reduce noise from you drunk commenters loudly complaining about anything and everything,

ZING!

Nice addition. Maybe they'll still have it open for the Porcupine Tree show in September.

Posted by Matt | May 14, 2009 5:24 PM

T5 would be a much better place if they would prioritize correcting sound reverberation before aesthetic improvements. A rooftop deck is only so much if the music sounds like its being played underwater.

"When Terminal 5 was Exit and whatever club incarnation it was before, they've always had a roof section."

It was called "Carbons" before Exit & back then it didn't have an open air roof section, it was enclosed. After reopening and being called "Exit" did it have the open roof section.

Posted by Anonymous | May 15, 2009 10:32 AM

And before "Carbons"...many, many decades before...it was a marshy bog, and Indians used to hunt for quail on it.

Posted by Anonymous | May 15, 2009 10:35 AM

@4:49
The roof deck walls are then the only part of the venue where the sound was actually considered. Nice work.

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2009 2:35 PM

terminal five was awesome

Posted by screwuhaters | July 7, 2009 3:49 PM

weird question, does anyone know if it's possible to meet the band after the show? I know at smaller venues you just wait outside but in terminal they kick you out, any advice?

Posted by Anonymous | December 7, 2009 11:46 PM

The Worst Venue in NYC.
