Boss Hog @ Maxwell's (more by Tim Griffin)
Boss Hog

Friday will feature a first New York show in a long time by The Jesus Lizard and newly announced, ATP favourites Iron and Wine. They will join the Don't Look Back shows also taking place on Friday: The Feelies performing Crazy Rhythms, New York's finest Suicide performing their first LP, Dirty Three performing Ocean Songs and The Drones performing Wait Long By The River... The evening will be rounded off with the Comedy Stage hosted and curated by the one and only David Cross.

Saturday is curated by ATP and is headlined by Animal Collective and an exclusive performance by Panda Bear. Other confirmed acts include the newly announced Boss Hog, Deerhunter and Bridezilla, plus the previously announced Melvins, Black Dice, Dead Meadow, Autolux, EL-P, Akron Family, Antipop Consortium, Atlas Sound and the hotly tipped Sleepy Sun.

Sunday is curated by the outlandish Flaming Lips. Every act that plays will perform an exclusive special show, bespoke for this event. First up are the Boredoms who will continue their BOREDRUM [BOADRUM?] series, performing with 9 drummers on stage. No Age will perform a whole LP by Husker Du including special guest vocalist [um... Bob Mould?]. Deerhoof will perform with special visuals by Martha Colburn. Caribou will perform as Caribou Vibration Ensemble, with a 4 piece horn section, 4 drummers and a choir and guests that include Kieran Hebden (Four Tet/Fridge/Kieran Hebden & Steve Reid), Koushik (Stones Throw Records), John Schmersal (Enon, Brainiac), Kathryn Bint (One Little Plane), Ahmed Gallab (Sinkane) and more. Finally Stardeath and White Dwarfs also join the line-up, with lots more to be announced!

This is great. Full (current) lineup (in list format), and more info, below...

Great photo.

So the Boredoms should be up to something a few days before the fest - on 9/9/09?

I want to go to this so badly...

conflict. love husker du, hate no age. how do i resolve that puppy?

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 1:02 PM

Deerhunter tipped the scale on finally no longer regretting having purchased a ticket for this festival. Yes, granted Jesus Lizard and Feelies, but the big picture still seemed vacant.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 1:07 PM

still not as good as last year. they need to bring the heat!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 1:20 PM

why wont they just add Faith No More already?

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 1:24 PM

this is getting better...boss hog is a cool addition, and so is Caribou and Boredoms...that last Boredoms show shorted something in my brain...

So much potential for the Sunday. Wonder if the Lips follow their own mandate and do a different "special" set or will we get the standard auto-pilot.

Either way, a Sunday single day ticket might not be a bad idea.

Posted by noamjamski | May 1, 2009 1:35 PM

First of all, anyone that just goes for one day is missing the point.

Second, why not just add the Blues Explosion? I mean, it would make total sense. Get them to perform Orange or something on Friday.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 1:35 PM

Bottom line is that it will simply never reach the level of the 2008 festival, but I am still hoping that it can come within reach. Being that over twenty bands have already been listed, and the majority of these bands are so-so at best, the remaining bands to be listed will have to be stellar to even compete. I mean, come on; My Bloody Valentine, Built To Spill, Thurston, Les Savy Fav, Mogwai, Yo La Tengo, Dinosaur Jr., Low, etc. They set the bar.

1:35... I'm not going to go off on the tired "trust fund hipsters" rant, but a weekend of ATP including accommodations is out of the reach of some of us. So, if you can't do the full experience, $100 for a single day ticket plus the cost of a tank of gas is a reasonable alternative.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 2:00 PM

no age sucks

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 2:02 PM

What time do the festivities start during the day? Is it possible to drive up sat. morning?

Posted by anonymous2 | May 1, 2009 2:02 PM

sat last year started around 12 or 1 in the afternoon

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 2:05 PM

im holding out for nyc jesus lizard show...otherwise, im going to buy a ticket closer to the festival.

ive seen every band that i want to see...and im not entirely into the idea of spending the weekend with people like you guys.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 2:10 PM

has anyone heard about any possibility the jesus lizard do a show in the city when they're in the neighborhood? im poor and cant afford an atp ticket, and id rather see them on their own in an indoor concert venue anyway.

"I'm not going to go off on the tired "trust fund hipsters" rant"

You can suck it long and suck it hard. I wake up at the ass crack of dawn, bust my ass sometimes 70 hours a week and the last time I talked to my parents about money it was them borrowing money from me. I've been working since I was 16 and don't take shit from nobody. I know you weren't making a personal attack on me, but assuming that anyone that can afford to enjoy their life is only doing so because they come from privilege just shows how provincial your thinking is. Shove it up your ass you generalizing fuck. Oh, and I know at least 7 or 8 other folks that are going to this that bought tickets months ago and none of them are by any means well off. If you can't pull together a bit of scratch to do the things you want, maybe you should look in the mirror before throwing out the "trust fund" card.

Retards.. I am surrounded by retards.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 3:56 PM

@3:56 Wow, you are one angry trust fund hipster.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 3:58 PM

no age perform husker du? WOW!

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 4:11 PM

Evoking the "trust fund" card when someone accuses people that can only do one day of "doing it wrong" seems fair. Get over yourself anon.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 4:11 PM

we US citizens are ALL 'trust fund' hipsters. out trust fund is called the federal reserve. our hipness is our bill of rights. and our rich parent? mother earth. we owe her so much.

who will repay the debt we all owe to mother earth and father music?

what I'm trying to say is, OBAMA!

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 4:14 PM

Has anyone ever actually met someone with a trust fund?

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 4:46 PM

what's a trust fund?

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 5:11 PM

its a fund that you trust

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 5:15 PM

i tossed her salad back in the late 90's

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 5:18 PM

how trustworthy is the fund?

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2009 5:19 PM

sebadoh

Posted by Anonymous | May 2, 2009 11:45 AM

Yes, I have met a trust funder. Dressed like a hobo-fixed-gear-tramp. Didn't work. Lived in a house his papa bought him and liked godspeed a lot.

He was a good enough guy...

IN defense of this type of person I must point out that if someone with that kind of privilege choses to use it in a way that feeds a community (even though resentment is hard to shake off for the rest of us) they have chosen NOT to offer the fruits of their privilege to The Beast.

...of course The Beast has many more micro-marketed faces than it did when Husker Du was making Zen Arcade.

The Boredoms are doing ATP
Meanwhile the huge drum spiral that has happened for the past 2 years is being spearheaded, or appropriated, this year by Jim "Soni" Sonefeld, of Hootie and the Blowfish. 99 drummers taken more from the corps of today's adult rock drummers, as opposed to what has been happening over the past 2 years. They are also accepting auditions to play at the Hootie site. It will be held in New Jersey this year.

"The Boredoms are doing ATP"

Can you read? They are the first band listed in the headline. Duh.

Posted by Anonymous | May 4, 2009 11:54 AM

never thought I'd see the day that The Boredoms would be mentioned in the same paragraph with Hootie and The Blowfish

Posted by Anonymous | May 4, 2009 11:58 AM

I once had a similar experience against one of the top players in the country. Although I did see that I was in check the result was the same ... as I unfortunately chose to get out of check by castling, which is of course illegal. He took my king too, and game over. www.kontoroyna.com
