Bat For Lashes played Bowery Ballroom (pics) & Letterman (video) -- tonight it's Music Hall of Williamsburg
photos by Faith-Ann Young

NY MAG: You've been living partly in New York recently -- what do you think about the music scene here? Not to be confused with King Khan, whose own NYC trip coincides with hers, Natasha Khan (aka Bat For Lashes) plays Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn tonight (5/2). Last night she was on Letterman and the night before she played Bowery Ballroom. Video from the TV appearance, and more pictures from the NYC show, below...Natasha Khan: In Brooklyn and Williamsburg, which is where I was living, there has been quite an interesting scene happening that was kind of bubbling away when I was there. There were these new bands like Gang Gang Dance and TV on the Radio and MGMT and Yeasayer. So I saw a lot of interesting gigs, and had a really nice exchange and conversations with musicians and got inspired.

Love her love her. Voice not as strong as the Bowery show, but hell, 1st time on national TV jitters are ok.

Was TV on the Radio really new when those others were? Seems like they were the 'generation' of Brooklyn bands earlier.

Dare I say entirely pre-recorded?

^^^^
Hmmmm, I vote no. The drummer and keyboard player are clearly playing, and if it were pre-recorded, her voice wouldn't be so flat when she goes up high.

Straight Cure rip-off. Can Robert Smith and Co. sue her now?

oh, c'mon. That was a pretty good performance, especially for f'ing Letterman. At least now we now the sound on that show can be good if they just have line ins from electronic drums and keyboards.

I appreciated the effort they put into really playing that stuff live. Lots of acts would just have a laptop doing half of it.

Note to female musicians: Go topless. You'll sell more records.

Just glad all you American types are getting the chance to see the wonderful Ms Khan. Pre-recorded? No more than a few loops when you go to see her live - they are musicians for heavens sake. Seen her three times now, and first night of the UK tour there were definite first night nerves, so yeah, agree she was probably really nervous on Letterman. She is a really nice girl, when I saw her last year came out after the show to meet the fans and have piccies taken and all that stuff. Do go to see her if you get half a chance, your loss if you don't.
