Jones Beach

"Live Nation is planning to open the area's largest general admission venue this summer as part of its Nikon at Jones Beach Theater complex, with Long Island's own Taking Back Sunday set to christen the new stage.

The Bay Stage, named for its location on Zach's Bay in Wantagh, will have a capacity of 5,000 and focus on big-name acts that prefer playing general admission shows and developing acts and package tours that are too big for New York ballrooms but not big enough for arenas, said Live Nation's Christian McKnight, who is spearheading the stage's launch.

"It's the right place to play for certain bands - bands who have wanted to come, but haven't been able to play Long Island," said McKnight. "It will fill a void."

The new venue, which is located on the other side of the concession area from the amphitheater, will operate on the amphitheater's off days and feature lower ticket prices. Live Nation will start with six shows this season and, depending on the audience response, will expand further next year." [Newsday]

sounds very cool..... but it's Jones Beach and they'll find a way to make it as un-concert goer friendly as possible and make it suck

"The new venue, which is located on the other side
of the concession area from the amphitheater"

Doesn't that basically mean inside the parking lot away from the water? One of the best parts about Jones Beach is the great view.

Jones Beach has a great sound system, especially for a big outdoor venue.

is this in place of where donald trump was going to build?

All shows bring in their own sound, so instead, I guess you are complimenting the crews of the acts they bring in.

I hate the name of this theater. It doesn't makes sense...Nikon at Jones Beach Theater. Shouldn't it be The Nikon Theater at Jones Beach?

When the Lilith Fair played Jones Beach (way back in 1997), they had 3 stages. The main stage, a mid-sized stage and a tiny stage. The tiny stage was basically in the middle of the concession area. But for the middle sized stage, they opened up this sorta parking lot area to the left of the stage and put a smaller stage there.

I'm guessing that's where the "new" stage will be.

Performing under the stage name, Le Harpist, Carlos Dengler is rumored to be performing a solo show, where he displays his new found talent on the modern lever harp.

when do taking back sunday tickets go up for sale?

Posted by Paige | May 4, 2009 7:17 PM

PAIGE,

taking back sunday-great band, or GREATEST band? ask the middle school girls of long island and they'll tell you an answer similar to yours.

3:00, why the blind LI people hating? we get no shows, have to commute to NYC/BK a minimum of an hour usually, are appreciative of just being at a show at all, have to deal with suburbia, and are relatively silent about bitching about it. i dont hate you!

Rad, I'll be there for Taking Back Sunday.
