At 81 years old Maestro Cecil Taylor doesn't stop to created ! He was at the Knitting Factory Wiliamsbourg to check out Gary Lucas playing; he liked the way "God and Monsters" grooved and has the idea to invite Gary Lucas to perform together in a new project including his music, poetry and rock stuff!. Awesome!!!
Astonishingly, Gary Lucas has refused to do that project provoking a fiery rhetoric on the maestro’s end. WHO refuses to play with Cecil Taylor?!.
It seems Gary Lucas is just recovering from an accident on which he had broken his elbow….?
Certain is : in 75 years of Cecil Taylor’s career no guitar player has been invited to perform rock music while Taylor plays his piano and do his poetry. Nonetheless Taylor settled the project with the band mates of Gary Lucas and Lucas’ special guest Mike Edison. The project will be launched at Knitting Factory with new compositions from Cecil Taylor and poetry by Cecil Taylor and Amiri Baraka!. Cecil Taylor still an amazing inventor and jazz master. Amiri Baraka and Taylor do not share stages since 40 years ago.
Do not miss this meeting … which of course will be without Gary Lucas….
