"Varg" Rathbone and Varg Vikernes... Guess which one is the actor

Varg Vikernes is a free man. According to Blabbermouth, the once Mayhem-er (before the whole murder thing) and artist currently known as Burzum recently confirmed to Norway's Dagbladet that he had indeed been set free and "will have to report [to the parole officer] for one year -- initially every two weeks, and then once a month".

Varg Vikernes was originally sent away to prison for the brutal murder of Øystein Aarseth, who was found stabbed twenty-three times on August 10th, 1993. There have been many stories regarding the events of that night, motives, etc... one version of which was recounted by Vikernes himself on his website. Another version of the events on 8/10/93 can be found in a book that Vikernes has described as "brain-dead" - the highly popular Lords Of Chaos.

Lords of Chaos: The Bloody Rise of the Satanic Metal Underground is a book by Michael Moynihan and Didrik Søderlind... The book focuses on the scene surrounding the extreme heavy metal sub-genre black metal in Norway between 1990 and 1993... The book... details the April 1991 suicide of Mayhem front man Per Yngve "Dead" Ohlin and the formation of a radicalized "inner circle" around Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, based out of his small black metal retail shop Helvete (Norwegian for "hell") in Oslo, Norway.

In 1992 and 1993, members of the group became connected with a series of crimes, starting with the arson of the Fantoft stave church on June 6, 1992, although the book mentions that there had previously been a "small, ineffectual fire at Storeveit Church.". Church arsons continue but with a steady decline up until the year 1995. On August 10, 1993 Aarseth is murdered by Vikernes, who receives a 21 years sentence for the murder and several cases of arson related to the church burnings.

Now, Lords of Chaos is getting the Hollywood treatment. Scheduled for principal photography in Norway in mid-Sept, Japanese director Sion Sono will lead Twilight's Jackson Rathbone who was been cast as Varg Vikernes. To quote one Blabbermouth commenter

I heard a rumor that Jamie Foxx is gonna play Euronymous, Justin Timberlake is gonna play Dead, and that douchebag from High School Musical is gonna be Snorre Ruch.
That might actually be awesome. Some related videos below...

Holy SHIT! The guy who directed Suicide Circle is directing this! Very excited to hear.
This is too evil to be a lie.

Fuck this guy, fuck Burzum, fuck neo-nazi black metal.

Posted by Patate Molle | May 27, 2009 12:49 PM

this movie is going to be horrible. the book is amazing though. but of course they get shitty actors to play the role of black metal members.

fucking hell! varg ain't no pussy dumb shit like that twilight faggot! THIS DIRECTOR BETTER KICK THAT HOMO OFF!!

Posted by anasshole | June 20, 2009 5:07 AM

1- That book was riddled with errors. 2- Black metalers SPIT on shit like this. 3- Though that guy is hot, he was in fucking Twilight... isn't that bad enough?

Go see "Until The Light Takes Us", it's all about black metal.

@ anasshole:
while you were writing that comment, you should have stopped and rather wrote something more intelligent. you obviously do not know what a great actor jackson rathbone is, or his sexual orientation. i doubt that you have ever seen him acting, you're just too much of an idiot to hate twilight because it's a chick flick (and yes, i do know that it sucks).
i also doubt that you know that much about varg, "protecting" him like that. if you are norwegian, or can read norwegian, you should take a look at this, and compare your iq with (what most lightly is) varg's. then you'll probably see that you're a shame to varg, being (what i assume) a fan of him.

I like Varg.

varg's poophole is too large for the warden now that's why he let that black metal fag go. now he can go back home and play with his spiked buttplug [yup, that's what he's holding alright]

I can't believe a pretty boy in Twilight will be playing Black Metal Mastermind Varg Vikernes.

Varg stabbed fellow Black Metal Musician Euronymous 23 times and has set fire to three churches on Christmas across Norway. Ever since the Church Burnings in 1993, many more Black Metal Musicians have set fires in churches in Norway. The average burnings in 1993 was 3-4 times. Now, the church burnings has risen to 50 times a year.

Can someone like Jackson Rathbone see clearly that Varg Vikernes himself will be watching the premiere of the movie?

Black Metal has been despised by the media for being Satanic (and I agree that it is and I listen to some Black Metal Bands). But now, Black Metal has the chance of being illuminated by the mainstream media. Very hypocritical.

Yes, almost the fags despite all about Vikernes and claps for the roleplay gained for Rathbone, is too bizarre watch a "sexy" Rathbone playing the role of a black Metal mastermind influence as BURZUM, perhaps Rathbone doesnt knows a shit what about hardcore fans of BM (and i guess he knows a shit of the music, the one who from the beyond is laughing of all this is Euronymus) they are, and the death threats will rain over, of course, i'm angry for this shiiiiiittty news and why at least doent chose a less bit fag actor to incarnate the cast?

A very bad idea...of course: did Rathbone knows Vikernes gets free of jail some months ago?

Fuck this movie, and fuck Jackson Rathbone and the stupid ass director who's making this piece of shit based off a work of lies.

I think it's a horrible choice in casting not because he was in twilight which was a horrible film to begin with but because the actor himself is unproven and in my humble opinion unworthy of portratying a music him or hate him Varg's gonna be in the history books.
I've read and seen all the Black Metal Docs out there and to be honest I can't fathom how they can even make this profitable without taking even more liberties with facts than Lords of Chaos did.
Also what do HellHammer, Ihsahn, and Abbath and the surviving members of the circle think of this?
I for one will not watch this film and only lament further at how a genre I grew up adoring and believing in is being dragged into the mud into mainstream mediocrity.

Black Metal Ist Krieg.

cool post

ok first i just want to say that black metal has never been about commercialism and secondly jackson rathbone is the worst possible choice to play varg viekernes twilight sucked ass and so does rathbone.

hot topic will NOT commercialize black metal nor will it help to create shitty subgenres like black metal core.

black metal is underground and it shall remain that way not for pussy ass rich mall core poser motherfuckers

Posted by colin downer | October 20, 2009 5:13 AM

Varg rules, He makes the best black metal.

Not just agressive/fast like many bm bands but deep and thoughtfull

Posted by KillerDemon | December 2, 2009 12:48 PM

jackson rathbone's a pretty good actor, actually. he was on criminal minds as a guy with multiple personality disorder and did really very good. let's just hope he does his research and can do varg justice

Posted by victoria | December 7, 2009 11:56 AM

I will personally see that this movie set is set aflame. Black metal does not need or want hollywood exposure.

Posted by Alderøs | December 8, 2009 11:18 PM

Is this film being made I cant find any new news on it other than the twilite dude isnt in it.

Posted by dnabomb | December 27, 2009 4:08 AM

I think it's a matter of taste, personally not for me!

Posted by herpotherm review | February 8, 2010 11:29 AM

Good actor, who acted in a bad film [Twilight]. Acting is this guy's job, considering the amount of money Twilight has made and continues to make I would have accepted the role too. Again, good actor, but he would not be my first choice to play Varg were I the director.

This should have an interesting turn out. It'll either really suck and make this actor suck harder, or it'll be really good and redeem him from Twilight.

Posted by Loan Amortization Table | October 12, 2010 12:57 PM

it's good movie but book is very interesting because when we read then we learn new word and we also feel actually what will happened that time .

Posted by International schools in Bangalore | January 11, 2011 3:05 AM

fucking shit, now a movie?! Whats going to be next, a copy cat murder from some new faggot trendy fan?

Posted by Grimm | July 8, 2011 11:54 PM

Lords of Choas was a biased view on black metal and as such is misleading. Until the light takes us is a better example of documenting the norwegian black metal scene especially due to the many interviews with the pioneers. Personally i found rathbones acting mediocre and I highly doubt he would be able to pull off varg but that is just me. The one thing i would be scared of though is the marketing that may happen for this film, think about: all the twilight kiddies will run around in Mayhem or Burzum shirts (despite never hearing the music) because rathbone was in it and i know someone will bring up the idea of commercialising it someway or another. Its concerning
