« Bay Stage at Jones Beach opening in June | spotlight on Johnny T (recently opened Cabin Down Below) »

"Live Nation is hoping to dump the lease for the Gramercy (Blender) Theater on 23rd Street, just a few years after completing a hefty renovation of the space. The 600 seat space is a choice of last resort for most major acts in town that would seek a venue of this size, with many acts choosing to perform in one the Bowery Presents facilities. If you have ever dreamed of running your own music venue, now is your chance." [Down by the Hipster]I've often wondered how the Gramercy Theatre (officially no longer the Blender Theater) still exists. Their schedule is always so random.
Recent shows there have included Lou Reed's Metal Machine Trio, Napalm Death, and a secret-like show by The Dead.
The Get Up Kids are playing there tonight (5/1).

As long as it still exists tonight, that's all I care about.

Tonight is gonna be my first GUK show!! I just got their cd yesterday and loved it so much I bought a ticket off of Craigslist. Gonna be so rad..Anyone know what time they are suppose to go on? I plan on getting ripped at the bar across the street then headover about 5 minutes before showtime and push my way up to the front row! I plan on wearing my Yankees cap (backwards of course) and a plaid shirt so if anyone else from BV is there , please say hi..and buy me a drink!!
GUK FTW!

Anon 9:29 - Clearly I might be oblivious to its occurrence but have TGUK been one of those bands who amassed a larger fan base since they stopped playing & putting out albums? I never got a sense that was the case. Not that I care if there are 'new fans' at the show but I guess I'd be surprised if that made up a lot of the crowd.

As someone who is a total whore for 90's rock, why have I never heard of The Get Up Kids until this show was announced? Did they have anything radio-friendly that I would remember from 10-12 years ago??? I just read their Wiki page and NOTHING sounded the least bit familiar.

anyone know who these "Motzah’s Ballzes" are?

Only went to one show here ever and was unimpressed. I mean it makes sense to me that bands would choose the better (and slightly less corporate) Bowery Venues over this place.

I like this venue. It sounds great and is down the street from my office. I hope whoever gets it continues booking Metal.

It’s really hard to fathom how this venue has failed time and time again over the years – no matter if it’s being marketed as a cinema or live music joint. I mean, the location is great and accessible and there’s a population of college students in the neighborhood. I’ve never been in the place, to be honest – what’s it like inside?

Saw IAMX there and I thought it was a great show!

can't wait for tguk!
anon 9:56 is right... i dont think tguk have expanded their fanbase since their breakup... i don't think there will be "hipsters" or young kids there.

It's too bad...I think this is an awesome venue - intimate on the floor, epic from the seats, great lights & sound. Certainly way better than Highline, anyway. But Live Nation's corporate idiocy ruined any chance they might have had of getting it off the ground...not like they really stood much chance of competing with the Bowery Ballroom anyway, especially on 23rd Street, but it deserved to be much more. Hard to picture it ever catching on now, though...not surprised they're looking to pull the plug.

Please explain how Gramercy is better than the Highline? you are completely insane.
