Mastodon

"Mastodon played the entire Crack the Skye from the beginning to the end, to the utmost satisfaction of those who have been crazy about the album since it came out in March. They were projecting a video collage throughout the whole thing, with clips from old Russian movies, and various outer-space type scenarios. It was pretty cheesy, but it went well with the music. There was something spooky and uncanny about the combination of Mastodon's ridiculously amazing music, and sinister-looking Orthodox priests and iron-clad warriors from the tsarist times.

Throughout the Crack the Skye part of the show, Mastodon had a keyboardist with them. He left when they moved on their older selections. They played a bunch from Blood Mountain, and then a few less from Leviathan and Remission."
[a review from an earlier show on the tour]

Mastodon, Kylesa, and Intronaut are on tour and stopped at Irving Plaza in NYC last night (5/9). They do it again tonight (5/10, Mother's Day) at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. More pictures, including one of Mastodon's setlist, below...

'Bastards play multiple shows in NYC but none in Los Angeles.'

That's what you get for living in LA. But hey, on the bright side, you guys get to see Ariel Pink whenever you want.

looks sick... and yeah they don't come to LA enough... guess it's too far from GA. and everyone hates LA. still, I saw em out here ... 5... times, i think, in the remission-leviathan years. just saw them at coachella, still amazing, though i wish they had closed that set with March of the Fire Ants too!

still the most epic. closing a set with MotFA makes me want to go all godzilla on the world

Did Chris La Putt get some new gear or something? These pictures are much better than his usual offerings.

Keyboardist for Mastodon was Derek Mitchka, from the mighty Cream Abdul Babar.
