Mission of Burma in Maine

Mission of Burma + Fucked Up + Ponytail + free + Williamsburg Waterfront on July 12, 2009 = amazing. The show may be the first not-"pool party" of the summer. They'll then continue for 8 weeks, every Sunday, after that. We know that Simian Mobile Disco is DJing the free show at the outdoor Brooklyn spot on August 9th.
And we know there will be shows happening in the same location even sooner (Dirty Projectors) - ones that possibly cost money.
Ponytail last played Williamsburg in April. They are also playing the Pitchfork Festival this summer.
Back on January 25th of this year, Mission of Burma played a show at the SPACE Gallery in Portland, Maine (Bryan Bruchman's new home). Fucked Up played the same venue one week earlier. Portland band Huak opened for MoB. More pictures from that show below...

Mission of Burma = best reunion ever. they did it for all the right reasons, wrote new music that stands up to their old shit, and still bring crazy energy live. show @ Bowery last summer was fucking intense.

Thank you for hiding for the moment BV skeptics and obnoxious complainers. This is one very sweet 3 band line-up. So cool!

Awesome. Will they have a new album out by then? The Obliterati is one of the best albums ever.

this line up will def attract more than 5 thousand people. are we gonna have one of those nightmare rsvp/stand in line to get in experiences?
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 11:23 AM
Yes 11:23 you can expect long lines and many people not getting in to this show. I don't know what fool came up with that number of 5000 or 6000 people being able to fit in the Waterfront. Much smaller than that for sure.
And just like the Boredoms show, my friends and i will be cutting the line on all you fucks to make sure we get in.
Bye.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 11:40 AM
Much smaller than that for sure...My friends an i...make sure we get in...by far the most annoying post on this already annoying site. What the fuck do you know about capacity? You work for the parks dept? Shut the fuck up.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 11:46 AM
Oh 11:46 douchebag, I am so happy I made you so angry. Now go suck my dick bitch
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 11:55 AM
space is a great venue, more bands need to come up here and play there

i actually think everyone will probably get into this one. mission of burma, despite being mighty, are like a bowery ballroom sized band still. so are fucked up, and ponytail.
free tv on the radio, everyone got in, free ted leo, everyone got in. both awesome, of similar sizes to these two bands.
mgmt was the only shit that got full and closed, and that is because they are a major, popular fucking band that frat dudes and stupid fancy girls love.
so, i dont think this one is in danger.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 12:50 PM
This will definitely hit capacity. All of you coming in from Staten Island & Jersey shouldn't even attempt to come over here...you'll just be wasting your time and will have to turn right around.
Posted by the power of suggestion | May 7, 2009 12:54 PM
Did anyone else go to the free Solar 1 Mission of Burma show last year? To say capacity wasn't an issue would be kind.
Posted by mp77 | May 7, 2009 1:02 PM
i also really don't see these bands, as great as they may be, be able to fill to capacity. no way popular enough
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 1:06 PM
the average draw for these bands will be doubled by the number of people who will come b.c. it's a free show. and 50% of those people will know one mission of burma song (and will think it was written by Moby). that's all.

"Did anyone else go to the free Solar 1 Mission of Burma show last year?"
Thats news to me, never heard of it. Considering they sell out 400-600 capacity venues, and using the 10x multiplier effect for free shows, Id say MoB can easily fill this place to capacity.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 1:10 PM
who likes ponytail?
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 1:14 PM
"using the 10x multiplier effect for free shows"
*chuckle*
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 1:19 PM
no way that this will be an MGMT-style disaster. Only crazy-hyped buzz bands have that long of lines at these free show (like MGMT and Vampire Weekend last year).
Just in the last few years I've seen lots of free summer shows that I got into without hassle: Hold Steady @ McCarren, Ghostland Observatory @ McCarren, Breeders with Matt & Kim @ McCarren, of Montreal @ McCarren, Neko Case @ Summerstage, Rodrigo y Gabriela @ Summerstage, Yo La Tengo @ Prospect Park, The National @ Seaport, Animal Collective @ Seaport, Camera Obscura @ Seaport, Sharon Jones @ Summerstage, Spoon @ Rockefeller Park, Fujiya & Miyagi @ Seaport. Not one bit of trouble getting into any of those shows.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 1:30 PM
"Sharon Jones @ Summerstage"
???
They stopped letting people in before she even started. It was very packed.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 1:54 PM
@ 1:54 - they did stop for a bit but then opened it back up and let a lot more people in.
Posted by mp77 | May 7, 2009 2:06 PM
Hold Steady, National and Animal Collective shows mentioned in anon1:30 were all in the rain.
Breeders at McCarren was complete clusterfuck, with lines and other nonsense.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 2:09 PM
actually, 12:54, we can just leave earlier to shut out most of the brooklyn transplants from getting in.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 2:13 PM
Seaport? They don't have a limit there so it doesn't really count. I think it's the best policy, just let people come and go and police themselves, like it used to be in Central Park.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 2:13 PM
I like Ponytail and Fucked Up, not so much Mission of Burma. Also I think getting in to this show won't be so bad.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 2:29 PM
MoB and Ponytail are phenomenal live bands, always.
have anybody ever been to this "waterfront"? It can not hold anywhere close to 5000 people, and there will be a long line down Kent Ave no matter how many people show up because of the entrance bottleneck.

MEHssion of BurMEH
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 2:53 PM
HA!
Posted by Joe Anon | May 7, 2009 3:15 PM
"MEHssion of BurMEH"... NO. STOP, NOW!
Fuck, it really sucks that I work on Sundays! Maybe I can get a sick day.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 3:18 PM
2:53 hahahahaha! you beat me to it damn it.
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 3:43 PM
Mission of Burma is so the opposite of MEH, that they've come back around and became HEM as in "MoB is so fuckin incredible, I don't think this guy gets tHEM."
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 4:50 PM
Correction - Sucks you have to work on a Sunday
Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2009 5:08 PM
8,000 capacity on the waterfront bitches!!!
Posted by Anonymous | May 8, 2009 10:46 AM
FYI about the Solar1 show last year. Grizzly Bear was slated to headline that show and was advertised as such within NYU. There was no general advertising though the show was open to the public. Grizzly Bear had to back out at the last moment. (week to 10 days before hand) Burma was asked, accepted and it was fun.
Nobody would expect them to draw 5000 folks. It's free, it's summer and it's a blast of a bill.
Posted by janswers | May 28, 2009 3:32 PM
Does anyone know what time the show starts?
Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2009 2:41 PM
Ditto. What time do you think mission of burma will go on? Time Out says 2:00, MOB's myspace says 8:00--help
Posted by Anonymous | July 9, 2009 9:31 PM
It's my first time to hear about Mission of Burma. Are their songs good? By the way, great photos, it's hard to take photos during a band session, but photos here are great!
