Jane's Addiction
Nine Inch Nails

"The Sasquatch! Music Festival wrapped up yet another installment of drawing a massive overflow-campground, sold-out crowd.

I'm still trying to understand why.

I remember when it was a lowly one-day event. Kanye West rocked the stage with a white-on-white sports jacket and suit combo, lavender shirt and white Keds. Arcade Fire opened my eyes and ears. Modest Mouse played sober. The Pixies were a wave of rock royalty.

I've gone every year for five years, now. Each year progressed with its setup and lineup. This year was the worst." [Seattle University Spectator]

The Jane's Addiction / Nine Inch Nails tour is well underway. NYC-area dates at PNC Bank Arts Center and Jones Beach are are both this upcoming weekend. The bands' co-headlining sets at The Sasquatch Festival in Washington were last week (5/24). More pictures from that and both setlists, below...

I don’t want to say anything about the NIN/JA tour…but it wasn’t that great…the show kinda sucked, even the song selection. I just saw NIN live , they didn’t play Closer, or any of their good songs. They were having some sound difficulties when he was singing. Trent Reznor needs to retire soon. DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THIS NEW ENGAGEMENT!

Posted by TimBooth | June 1, 2009 7:04 AM

Both bands need to fucking retire soon..Maybe they should take up golf.

the MEH/JEH tour

Wow, you guys are right! Thanks for the advice. I should've listened to people on the internets years ago...then I could've saved myself the hassle of getting rich & famous, owning nice houses, driving nice cars, and fucking tons of hot chicks.

Thank you, Internets!

-Dave

^^^yeah, if you're an artist, your job is to make some money, then go the fuck away so no one can ever see you again. you might as well just go the cobain route, 'cause you'll never be as big as you were, and even if some people want to listen to you, there are still others who don't even want to be bothered to hear that you're playing for people.

["criticism isn't smart, it's for the artfully dejected." el-p]

why don't you contribute something, get famous, then go die.

Posted by solver | June 1, 2009 9:09 AM

Wow -- Dave is up really early today.

I guess he had to mow the lawn or renew his car registration at the DMV

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 9:10 AM

7:04, you can't be for real. NIN's setlists this tour have been awesome. it's about time we don't have to hear Closer for the 15th time

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 9:15 AM

Who plays first, NIN or JA?

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 9:41 AM

JA plays first. then NIN.

it's pretty awesome... part of the stage production set-up is that a giant orb is launched from the top of the stage scaffolding into the sky.. and hangs up there for the entirety of NIN's set, acting like the sun is giving the impression that it's dusk.

no, i'm kidding dumbass. look at the pictures.. it's pretty evident who plays first.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 9:48 AM

Don't sweat these guys Dave. I saw the show in Noblesville. It was great to see the original line up back together. Jane's music is the soundtrack to my life. I never got to see the original band live when I was younger. Thanks!

Posted by Svengali | June 1, 2009 10:01 AM

Hey 9:48, go fuck yourself. There's no guide that says the pics were posted in sequence. It was an honest question and most people would likely assume that NIN is the closer. So, just to recap, go fuck yourself.

dear celestial friends of the interwebs,
please stop fighting, its making me cry tears of pure sadness into my kerchief!

Hahaha! 948am, thanks for the laugh.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 10:34 AM

Don't thank us Internets Dave because success is all about timing, and yours is up! It is 2009 not 1989! And we don’t give a fuck!

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 10:55 AM

10:01: Dave's not here, man.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 11:01 AM

meow...

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 11:29 AM

I saw NIN/JA in San Diego and Mountain View this tour and I left in awe both times. There are always going to be a holes that you just can't please. I can't wait to hear new Jane's Material.

Posted by Jeff | June 1, 2009 12:49 PM

Definitely not Dave Navarro posting.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 3:34 PM

NIN is playing first on this tour (bizarre)

i will be so happy to not hear "closer" on this tour. how can you complain?? they're playing a fucking gary numan cover! and "gone, still"! and "somewhat damaged"! come on, man.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 4:53 PM

Trent: fat guy in black

Eric Avery: looks like he's dressed to take his kid to the playground.

Perry Farrell: Will he take over the Tonight Show when Conan retires?

Dave Navarro: Porn star industry sleaze and 90s version of a "hipster."

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 5:00 PM

Trent is buff, not fat - he's a workout nut dumbass, climb out from under that rock.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 5:07 PM

What is going on here with the comments?

Trent is fat??? Id love to see you say that to his face, internet tough guy.

And do people on here really think that was Dave Navarro posting earlier? You would not happen to be the same total morons who are running around the internet today thinking that the Bruno-Eminmem incident at the MTV movie awards was real and not totally staged?

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 5:26 PM

wait...you mean that Bruno-Eminem incident was fake???

Closer isn't even that great of a song, IMO. I'm glad they left it out. NIN was fucking amazing, although the set dragged a bit too much during the slow middle area. I really liked the choice of Echoplex over Discipline from The Slip as well.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 10:43 PM

wow, I LOVE Jane's Addiction and all (saw them way back when) but Perry is looking like he should open for Sigfried and Roy in Vegas.

Posted by Anonymous | June 1, 2009 11:42 PM

"Thank you very much, we're Nine Inch Nails."

Posted by Beavis | June 2, 2009 2:07 AM

Here's a good wake up call. It's not 1991 anymore and you can tell by looking at these pictures. Are you serious with this show? Common son. The party's over. Terrible.

Posted by Anonymous | June 2, 2009 11:35 AM

nine inch nails are one of the best live bands out there today.

as for the setlists, if you have been following the tour..youknow he's not palying the singles for the soccor moms. closer is not in rotation this time around and won't be.

as for giving up....trent already said this is it for NIN for a while.

i'm off to see the show in afew hours and i cannot wait.

JA > NiN - ...and always WILL BE

'nuff said...

Posted by EOT | June 4, 2009 11:43 AM

I saw the show last night in Jersey .....and will see it again tomorow night on Long Island. JA is OK in my book, I was really surprised that they are the headliner but they did a good job and were heavy. NIN is my fav band by far, and Trent is a genius; but even *I* have to admit this tour is a let-down compared to the 'Lights in the Sky Tour' last fall which I saw 3 times.
So, not as good as the last tour but still overall a mind-blowing experience from a very talented guy and his awesome band. Set list included a super-heavy version of Head Down, but no Discipline or Only; not hearing Closer was OK in my book also.

they fucking rocked tonight at PNC, great show

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2009 1:31 AM

dude... NIN opened with "Wish" and "Last". What more could you ask for?

Posted by wembley | June 7, 2009 1:36 AM

Posted by Anonymous | June 7, 2009 1:38 AM

went to the PNC show in NJ this past weekend. one word: unfuckingbelievable!!!

Janes was sick, maybe it had to do with our excellent seats but both bands sounded great! Navarro made it look effortless. Such a raw sound coming from that dude! Perry, excellent job!
Today is Monday and I'm still in awe over the Saturday performance.
NIN? I don't think it could have gotten much better. Mr Self Destruct? March of the Pigs? Head like a Hole???
For all who said the show was weak, maybe it was the crowd? Maybe the venue?

If you want to hear Closer, then turn the fucking radio on you maggots!

I'm going to the show this Friday in Charlotte. I'm psyched, but I must admit a little disappointed that J.A. isn't doing 1 song from Strays.

Posted by James Hawk | June 9, 2009 9:25 PM

NIN was okay. Granted, they are a much better studio band than live -- I was stoked that they opened...so I could show up late.

Jane's was amazing! So great! I was very happy with the Merriweather show and have most of the '90's to compare it to as well. Perry is still a showman, and the rest of the band kicks ass. Thank God for Stephen to keep the beats.
Just plain fun for an evening.
Get off of your high horses and enjoy youselves!
Music is fun!

"I'm going to the show this Friday in Charlotte. I'm psyched, but I must admit a little disappointed that J.A. isn't doing 1 song from Strays."

My thoughts exactly from the Jones Beach show. Would have loved to see "Just Because", at the least - I bet Dave would even enjoy playing the riff tooo. Truth is though that I imagine that every band member not named Perry pretends that album does not exist.

Posted by Funderburgh | June 10, 2009 10:00 AM

Maybe it's b/c Strays sucks? Just a thought.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2009 10:08 AM

all you people that are saying these bands suck are fucking retarded. nin/ ja are 2 of the best bands in this generation of music. saw both of the bands like 3 times before. im expecting this show to rock as much as the last ones. so to all of you assholes that think these bands are worthless fuck off. and to bands... keep on rockin!

Posted by wtf | June 10, 2009 3:53 PM

I agree with wtf! all you jerkoffs need to shut the fuck up about 2 awesome bands!!! If dont like these bands then how about not listening to them! wow what a fucking concept!! Tired of hearing your opinions and bullshit!! WE DONT GIVE A FUCK!!

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2009 7:36 AM

Hey NIN and Dave I will be at the show tonight please give me a good show its the 1st time ive rocked in awhile.
thx, mandy

Posted by Mandy | June 12, 2009 3:37 PM

LOL @ all the hipsters who diss the greatest live band of the last 20 years. we all know you think it's not "cool" to like nin. it's your loss in your ongoing efforts to maintain some kind of fake image. go watch animal collective "tear it up" live....laughable, at best. kthxbai.

Posted by ha | June 15, 2009 2:31 PM

NIN is one of the greatest things that happened in our generation.

Posted by Dean Keller | June 23, 2009 4:31 AM
