DOWNLOAD: Screaming Females - Bell (MP3)

Screaming Females

New Brunswick's Screaming Females have landed the opening slot on the July portion of The Dead Weather's first national tour. Those stops include both NYC shows at Terminal 5 - July 16th and 17th (ticket info here). Make sure you get to those shows early enough to see Screaming Female Marissa Paternoster shred on guitar. It might make up for the lack of shredding Jack White does in his position of drummer in the headlining band.

Screaming Females also have their own tour (with a lot of TBA dates) scheduled for August, and you can catch the band around the NYC area at one of their many area gigs before they leave. The first chance comes this Saturday, May 30th when Screaming Females play Maxwell's with Shellshag, Pregnant and Mimi & Christian. Tickets are on sale.

After that, the band headlines one night of the previously mentioned Brooklyn DIY festival Hillstock, June 5th-7th. Poster and lineup, now with set times, below.

Screaming Females also have a Northside Festival show coming up, as well as an opening slot for Dinosaur Jr. at MHOW on June 25th (there will be lots of shredding from opener and headliner at the latter).

The band's debut, Power Move, came out April 14th on Don Giovanni Records. "Bell," from that record, is reposted above.

hilarious how they are doing a full TBA tour of unbooked house parties to playing 3000+ cap rooms.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 2:59 PM

@Anon2:59 - It's actually even more hilarious since, judging by the dates, they play the 3000+ rooms with Dead Weather first THEN hit the house party circuit. Imagine that culture shock!

Posted by blackhat | May 28, 2009 3:23 PM

Shouldn't TBA be headlining Terminal 5 by now?
Seems like they've been touring everywhere since forever.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 3:26 PM

oh god, this again?

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 3:30 PM

I love this news!

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 3:31 PM

TBA is overhyped brooklyn hipster bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 3:33 PM

Meh!

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 3:36 PM

You should probably include a link to the NY Mag piece on Screaming Females:

http://nymag.com/arts/popmusic/features/56727/

They were on the fucking cover, after all (technically).

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 3:48 PM

terrible

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 4:17 PM

TBMeh.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 4:24 PM

Screaming Females and TBA on the same tour? Sweet!!!

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 4:49 PM

And thus begins the oh-so-predictable TBA backlash. A month ago they were everyone's favorite. Now, it's Meh this and Meh that. Hipsters are so predictable.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 4:56 PM

Screaming Females is awesome! Great basement shows.. nice people. Yay, Meat Town USA!

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 6:08 PM

TBA sucked a month ago and they suck now. The only reason they got any attention at all is because the singer's dad runs a national burger chain and the bass player's mother starred in 17 off-broadway productions. They're all a bunch of total trust fund brats. They're going to be tomorrow's BLACK KIDS. I bet when their full-length comes out Pitchfork is going to tear it to pieces, just like they should have done with their stupid cassette only release. Cassette only, give me a fuckin' break TBA.

I was speaking with A (of TBA) after their last gig and he told me that their next release is going to be an 8-track only release. Should be dropping sometime mid-summer.

Posted by Neil | May 28, 2009 8:35 PM

The Vandelles are also playing the June 20th New Brunswick show.

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 8:42 PM

You're a total fool if you believe that Neil.
They're totally going to pull a Zaireeka, but they're going to so fuckin' up the ante. I heard that instead of four discs, they're going to release it on four 1/4" reel to reel tapes. TBA is the new WAVVES!

Posted by Anonymous | May 28, 2009 9:48 PM

Screaming Females are way more interesting than Dead Weather.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2009 12:06 AM

Guys is this true that TBA broke up? Somebody confirm plz

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2009 12:15 AM

The rumors of our demise have been greatly exaggerated. We've been kind of quiet the past few months while finishing up work on our new 8-track EP to be released later this summer. We've had some issues with concert promoters canceling on us last minute, but we're planning on mounting a full nation-wide tour in the coming months & years ahead.

Thanks for all of your support. It's the fans that keep us going when the going gets rough.

Posted by T | May 29, 2009 1:00 AM

Whatevers, I saw TBA before any of you losers even knew about them. That's back when their stuff was raw and inspired, now it's been ruined by their label trying to grab that hipster demo.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2009 1:13 AM

Screaming Females are fucking amazing. This is certainly a weeeeeird jump to have them touring with Dead Weather, who are really tepid. At least Jack White still has his ear to THE RAWK.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2009 2:05 AM

"Aug 07 Comet Tavern (21+?) Seattle, Washington"

the comet 'tis a bar. so I'm guessing, yes, 21+.

"It's actually even more hilarious since, judging by the dates, they play the 3000+ rooms with Dead Weather first THEN hit the house party circuit. Imagine that culture shock!"

that's why it's TBA man. after they play that shit some legit venues actually may want to book them.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2009 2:17 AM

no i think they are definitely pulling a titusandronicus, where they go from playing huge fucking shows to like...someone's bbq.

Posted by Anonymous | May 29, 2009 4:36 PM

I am shocked. The people are total hipsters and they're not even nice unless you are a hipster. I mean, come on! Dinosaur Jr. must've made a mistake....of course i'm speaking out of pure jealousy. but seriously, what the fuck? screaming females? really?? jayzus. i guess...good for them.

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2009 11:34 PM

hipsters? hardly. screaming females are weird awkward dorks. they can be standoffish, but they're closer to comic nerd weirdos than hipsters.
