What is a "Band Bench" you ask? The Band Benches are a special audience seating area set aside for HUGE fans of musical guests appearing on the show. Fans sitting on the Band Benches will be given the exclusive chance to come down to the studio floor and surround the musical guest during their performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon!

In what sense? Despite all the promo $ and big-name guests, he dropped behind Ferguson after his second week (though he might have rebounded, ratings-wise, since then). And the 12:30 shows get a fraction of the audience watching at 11:30.
They really should have given the whole hour to The Roots. When they're not playing, the Fallon show is like having a dick shoved in your ear.

I first noticed the "band bench" when John Rich was the musical guest. He performed a song about the decline of Detroit, which doesn't seem like the kind of song people should be dancing to (which they were).
