The AntlerS

Frenchkiss Records will be re-releasing a remastered version of Hospice, the debut new album by NYC band The Antlers, on August 18th (and digitally on June 16th). That means they are now label-mates with Sean Bones WHO they are playing with (listed as "special guest") at The Delancey on May 20th (flyer below). One day later you can catch The Antlers with White Rabbits and Cymbals Eat Guitars at Bowery Ballroom (you can also catch Cymbals Eat Guitars at the opening Rooftop Films party tonight). And you can catch the Antlers at Music Hall of Williamsburg on May 29th with Au Revoir Simone who they are then going out on tour with before meeting up with Cotton Jones for even more touring. really a fantastic and whole album that listens like a depressing novel. LOVED IT. Congrats dudes.

Its not actually their debut. There were a couple of self-released albums and EPs, and In The Attic of the Universe was actually on Fall Records in 2007.
That being said, this is great news for a great band and three really good guys.

I liked this band better when they had crystal in their name and were another band called crystal antlers that sounded nothing like these guys. I guess that's what happens when you sign to the record money grubbing, industry machine called frenchkiss.

woah... SAMO ... do you need a hug?

Posted by tommy | May 15, 2009 4:51 PM

good for them.. honestly..

but the way to get signed is to have a name similar to other hip bands..
Crystal Castles, Crystal Antlers, The Antlers, etc...
wtf?

Dan Antler Crystal Deacon

I think the way to get signed is to be really good. And the Antlers are really good.
Poor Samo, apparently he is not or else he's just bitter and silly... someone give him a hug!

Im just joshin...this band is good...i dont need a hug just an original band name. french kiss rules and these guys will be a good fit for them. congrats.

Keep in mind that a lot of these bands with similar names start up before any similar ones are well-known. It's pretty unlikely Crystal Antlers chose their name because they thought Crystal Castles and Crystal Stilts were cool names. They probably chose the name awhile ago...

Deer Crystal are the next big thing to come out of Minneapolis.

The most beatiful album of the year I think.

I just listened to this -- writing a review for Jersey Beat (www.jerseybeat.com). My jaw was literally dropping, it's so astoundingly beautiful. The whole thing is so good, but especially "Wake" sent chills up and down my spine.

I really hope they try to add a tour date in San Diego (note to the band - you're in Arizona Tuesday June 9th and LA Thursday June 11th. PLEASE make a stop in San Diego Wednesday June 10th!
