Bklyn Yard
Despite rumors to the contrary, the outdoor Brooklyn venue on the Gowanus canal (at the Issue Project Room's former address) will be open again this summer. Last year it was called The Yard. This year its new name is The BKLYN Yard (388 Carroll St., Brooklyn, NY).

A few events have already been announced (below), and that includes the return of Sunday Best - the dance party happening at the venue every Sunday from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day Weekend. As an added bonus, this year they've secured the Bell House as a rain location. Full schedule and more details below...

I really hope Todd P fest happens here again this year. Last year was so fun.

uh oh. Too many people know about the Yard now. It will be impossible to get in unless you arrive at 2:30.

yay! they were supposed to close because the spot was going to be made into condos! thank the economy for the yard!

the afrika bambaataa show in the rain last year was awesome! people dancing in the rain, just like step up 2: the streets.

"uh oh. Too many people know about the Yard now. It will be impossible to get in unless you arrive at 2:30."

I doubt it would be so popular that you'd have to show up 1/2 an hour before the gate opened to get in. The names up for Sunday's Best aren't really superstars, so the main draw is the space itself, right? Even if the Yard got popular enough to be crowded by like four, you could do worse than killing an hour drinking sangria and eating tacos in the sunshine.

And I agree, that Afrika Bambaataa show was bananas, in spite of or perhaps because of the rain.

ps - Let's just keep calling it the Yard.

i hope todd p fest returns too. definitely one of the best shows of the entire summer last year.

Is the name pronounced "Brooklyn," or do I call it the Bee-Kay-El-Why-In Yard?

Posted by Regular reader | May 6, 2009 1:22 PM

Yes, I vote we continue to refer to it as The Yard, as I named it! :)

Posted by Peter Agoston | May 6, 2009 1:23 PM

Is there anywhere to eat near The Yard

Posted by Anonymous | May 6, 2009 1:47 PM

How about the RFK Yard? Cuz then we can still just call it the Yard.
