Crowd @ Farrell's (Windsor Terrace) - St Patrick's Day 2009 (Aonghais MacInnes)
Farralls

"Good news for anyone sick of getting off the G at Smith and 9th Street and waiting for an F train just to go a couple more stops: Starting July 5th, the G train will continue on for five more stops into Brooklyn. The additional service is being added because of the massive Culver Viaduct Rehabiliation project, which, according to the Post, will prevent the G train from reversing itself at the next stop (Fourth Avenue). Come summer it will stop at Fourth Avenue-Ninth Street, Seventh Avenue, 15th Street-Prospect Park and Fort Hamilton Parkway before finally reversing course after the Church Avenue stop." [Gothamist]
This means you could go from the new bar opening by one of the owners of Cake Shop in Windsor Terrace (right across the street from Farrell's) to the new bar that was recently opened by another owner of Cake Shop in Williamsburg, without transferring.

Too bad there will be no concerts at McCarren Park since it is located off the G.

Now you would need to transfer to the L *shudders*

or, god forbid, walk 20 minutes!!!

You do realize that the Williamsburg Waterfront Park is only about a 3 minute walk from the McCarren G-stop, right?

Didn't know that new bar was from the Cake shop owners. cool (music related I guess). Thx.

It's right around the corner from my lovely home.

The bad news bout all of this is I believe ALL service on the F line will be stopped in a bout a year or two because of the same project. Lots of bus transfers ..etc ... it will be a rough going.

why isn't there a train that takes me from my front door right to any venue i want to go to? what bullshit! what am i paying taxes for? wehh!

I had no idea that video store was bought by the cake shop owners. Thats fucking rad. It'll be nice to have a good bar in windsor terrace. Farrell's is goddamn horrible.

That video store made my head hurt.

"Didn't know that new bar was from the Cake shop owners. cool (music related I guess)."

It is only one of the owners. There will be no live music.

Unfortunately for would-be G train users on the other end of the line in Queens, normal service continues to be canceled--week after week, month after month--as the MTA continues to work on "track improvements." This is a complete charade, of course, as the real reason the MTA does not run the G is because they have decided it costs too much. All of this would be much less insulting if the MTA simply came out and admitted that the G train is effectively no longer in service in Queens, as opposed to falsely advertising its service.

This will make my life slightly easier, but the question is will the G service still suck? Otherwise will end up still going into manhattan to get the L to then go back to Brooklyn.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2009 12:15 PM

what? Mccarren park is about 5 minute walk from the l train, 10 minutes if you're really slooowww...

"It is only one of the owners. There will be no live music."

Thanks Annon!

Maybe better off (for now) ..until the bar settles in. Windsor Terrace is NOT Park Slope..defintley more mellow, working people, blue collar (the way I like it). So moving "scene" into the neighborhood could be a bit of a shock.

Although I suspect small muscial performaces (solo, trio ..etc) ..etc down the road.

Either way ... a nice bar on the block I might actually want to hang out in.

Will the added G trains coming through Park Slope and Windsor Terrace mean that the F's running to Manhattan will come less frequently? Because if so, dat suxxxxxx

Now if only they made the G the permanent express train along the F line straight to Coney Island or if that's not physically feasible on the Coney platforms, then Kings Highway.

nice. Now I can go to the shows in Prospect Park without transfering

"Although I suspect small muscial performaces (solo, trio ..etc) ..etc down the road."

from the owner:

"well, maybe. having the option for an occasional show would be nice. but yeah, a singer-songwriter situation would never happen. unless i suddenly become a total turd."

LOL ..ok ok. I get it. No music. Hilarious response.

I can live with just a nice bar with decent tunes on the stereo ;)

Thanks for clarifying.

"i really want to like farrell's, but it's an unfriendly place. "

Not surprising since it used to be men-only.

Wow, when was the last time you rode the G? It's easily as frequent as the F at this point. You've been taking the L to manhattan to get to Park Slope? Sorry for all your wasted time.

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2009 4:49 PM

Please slit my wrists the day I start internet-proclaiming, "PARK SLOPE FOREVER!"

"You do realize that the Williamsburg Waterfront Park is only about a 3 minute walk from the McCarren G-stop, right"

The waterfront park is certainly a lot farther than a 3 minute walk!

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2009 8:00 PM

That will make the G run even slower!

Posted by Anonymous | May 18, 2009 8:24 PM

Any idea when this is going to go into effect yet?
